My case is supposed to arrive tomorrow and the tracking information still hasn’t updated with anything. I ordered it last week.

UPS just updated today saying they acknowledge the tracking number but don’t have the package.

The billing process is so weird. I had it pending since Friday right after the preorder, then it disappeared early this morning. Now I can see a charge that, based on the value, is for Applecare.

Based on past threads, seems like it's relatively common, but still weird.

Still preparing for shipment btw.

I am in the same boat as many others. Ordered a iPhone 13 Pro Max 256GB, Silver, minutes after the store went live for delivery in the GTA. Went preparing to ship on Sunday and had card charged, but no changes since then. Looks like it will likely ship out from Concord (the AC1 warehouse near Vaughn Mills Mall) on Thursday for next day delivery. This is my first launch day phone purchase, I'm pretty excited!

Mine hasn't shipped yet and I have a 9/24 delivery date. This leads me to believe it's coming from Ontario, at least for my configuration.
Yes mine (Pro Sierra Blue 128) as well. Charge is still pending on my statement, and status is "preparing to ship". I tried doing the myUPS thing, but nothing came. So guessing it's coming from within Canada instead of shipping directly to me from China like the US-counterparts.

Same thing here. Preparing to ship since Sunday and no tracking information since. I’ll be very surprised if it doesn’t come from a warehouse at this point.

got this text from Apple.

how does this method of backup compare to the device to device migration tool? Anything lacking in one vs the other?

I'm a little late on the pre-order train; only placed an order for the 256GB graphite Pro Max yesterday. Estimated delivery is: Arrives 21 Oct - 28 Oct.

I hope it's a conservative estimate and it ends up shipping a bit earlier. What's the likelihood of that? This is my first pre-order.

I also got the same text this morning, in fact 7 of them in rapid succession (!). It basically lets you prepare your existing iPhone data for transfer to your new iPhone even if your iCloud storage plan isn't enough to cover that – say you're on the 5GB free iCloud plan. The only thing you'll need to take advantage of this feature is to have iOS 15 installed on your current iPhone.

I'd keep an eye out for an Apple Store pickup if you want to get an iPhone earlier. Worthwhile going back regularly as whenever someone cancels a pre-order the inventory is immediately put back on sale.

After launch day, Apple Stores also receive different inventory than the website. Chances are fairly good at being able to get one earlier than waiting for delivery.

Probably mainly targeting people who immediately trade their old iPhone in and no longer have access to the old one.

There's no real difference between the two. Whether or not you're migrating to a new phone, it's always a good idea to make sure your device is backing up a copy regularly to iCloud.

During a migration it does give you more options in case one goes wrong.

That's how it works for most vendors and normally how vendors should bill their clients.

You'll find that most respectable vendors pre-authorize then only put the charge through upon shipping (or very shortly before). A pre-authorization will, depending on the card issuer and network, also disappear after a certain number of days. You might therefore be between the two or at a point where the charge has been billed but hasn't posted to your account yet.

Thanks. Just wanting to make sure that one method doesn’t transfer any more/less compared to the other. I wanna make sure all my photos, messages, apps, their data, are kept intact onto the new phone.

I'd like to share another data point of mine: the pending authorization charge (full amount of my order) on my card is now gone. I'm assuming the final charge will be posted once the iPhone is shipped, which is going to be anytime soon.

yes same with mine. Pending charge as disappeared, but credit limit is still the ~15000 below what it should be. Guessing charge will be posted today or tomorrow.

Still same as yesterday, no any changes on my order status and no results from UPS. Pending charge on credit card and preparing to ship. 13promax 256gb blue.
Could not remember exactly what happened in previous year pre orders, but seems like this year shipment will be on Wednesday night or Thursday morning for one day arriving at Friday.

you bought $15k worth of iPhones?
This reminds me of how I bought my iPhone X.

I had ordered and received my iPhone 8, using it for a month or so before the iPhone X was released. I went into the Apple Store around 2 weeks after the iPhone X launch day to get my girlfriend a new case for her iPhone. While I was buying the case some dude walked in with 10 brand-new-in-box iPhone X's, returning them because they flopped on the resale market.

I asked the sales guy what would happen to those newly-returned iPhones, and he said they go through a check in the back and if they pass they enter into stock, so I asked if I could make a reservation and if they would approve me returning my then out-of-window iPhone 8 for one of those iPhone X's. He said sure.

It was very difficult to not speed while driving home to collect the iPhone 8 packaging and return to the store to complete the swap. 😁

Thats how I got my iPhone X, for retail, without a preorder, without standing in line, and without waiting months for stock to be regularly available.
