Mine has gone back to green after having worked fine for days 😥
EDIT : I just noticed that for me only the first message is green. Replies are blue after that !
I give up. Hopefully the next OS will fixe the issue. I’ve sent feedback multiple times…

Ios 16.1.1, still can’t send myself imessages. What’s weird is, in 16.0 and 16.01 it would be green, then if I closed messages app and returned to my thread, it’d be blue, then green, then blue. Just like that, reliably everytime. Since 16.1.1 it hasn’t been blue even once. I’ve sent feedback many times since 16.0, but not only is there no fix, it’s gotten worse. So annoying

I ended up downgrading to ios 15.6. Couldn’t stand 16. Someone please let us know when they fix this inability to imessage ourselves?

I thought it was fixed but then the second message I tried to send myself turned green again 😤

This is what it kept doing to me everytime, on 16.0-16.1. Blue, exit messages, then green, exit messages, blue, etc. It was never blue for me on 16.1.1, though.

I’m really enjoying 15 again. I liked the haptics when typing, but it isn’t worth all the other mess that comes with 16, for me. I hope they eventually get it together, because it just doesn’t feel cohesive to me.

Apple aren’t interested. I sent details using the feedback app on 6th October and nearly two months later it still says “No similar reports” which means they’re not interested even looking at it

^interesting..I know i’ve sent 2-3 messages about this issue through the iphone feedback page within the first few days 16.0 was released

The first thing that crossed my mind when I wasn’t able to imessage myself consistently, then really made me think it, after the next couple of updates disallowed me from imessaging myself at all, is that they have just intentionally phased that ability out. It would be a shame, if that’s really what they’ve done.

I'm on 16.2 beta, and can still message myself. But it is green.

Not everyone has the problem. Works and shows blue on my wife's iPhone. Several friends as well.
When they try to imessage themselves? It shows blue consistently and they are on current version of ios?..

I have tested with new update 16.2 .
I have noticed that it happens after deleting a iMessage sent to yourself .
BUT , if you go to Deleted Messages and delete that message also from there , then with a new message it turns back to blue. I don't know if that worked before or not...or even if it will continue to do so ;-)))

I updated and tried that but I’m still green

Tried this. It deleted the entire contact in the list. Started new one. Still blue today. But only shows the Sent message. Doesn't come back with the Received. Only need one I guess, as long as it's blue iMessage. Didn't see any way to delete just the message in Deleted Messages.

Sorry to rehash an older thread. I've been having this issue for awhile now. I thought it had to do with me changing carriers. But now I realize I'm not alone. No matter what I do, it'll sometimes randomly SMS myself instead of iMessage. No rhyme or reason as to why it happens or when it happens.

Hi. I’m not 100% sure this is an ios16 problem but I have only just noticed it after recently updating.

I sometimes iMessage stuff to myself to look at later. I tried today but iMessage to myself is unavailable - I’m in green not blue. I can iMessage anyone else no problem. I can iMessage myself from my iPad and both my macs just not the iPhone. I have restarted the iPhone, signed out and back in to iCloud. Not a major problem if I don’t get it sorted but just thought I’d ask if anyone has any idea. Many thanks for reading.
I FOUND A SOLUTION!!

I've been having this same issue since I got the iPhone 14.

SOLUTION:

--> Create a Contact for yourself and add your iMessage Phone Number AND your Apple Account's email address
--> Go to "Message" yourself with the new Contact you just created, but use the email instead of the Phone Number.
--> The message should now be BLUE!

This fixed my issue completely and now I can iMessage myself again :)

No need to make a new contact for yourself . Your card has always been there , just add (✔) your  ID into Send and Receive .You might have to reboot your phone after that .
This has always worked , the problem is with the phone number only .

Yes, I will do that
Don’t know if you got this fixed, but my phone stopped sending me messages. It was going green then they were not going through at all. My phone was sending messages default to my email address, which couldn’t be received by my texts. I went into texts and changed to default to my phone number but it would immediately go back to email. I went to contacts selected myself deleted my email off my contact info. This worked! I added email again after I started receiving texts and this seemed to fix the glitch.

Well, I got an apple watch and it forced me to update back to ios16. I tried to imessage myself again - it works, seemingly everytime, too. Haven’t had it turn green once in over a week. I’m on 16.4.1
