Has anyone found an efficient backup scheme?

I used managed libraries in Aperture, so it was simple to create a vault and update it after making any changes.

Note this was an update.

A managed catalogue in CP1 is largely the same as a library but I don't see anything like the update vault option.

I don't want to create new copies of the entire catalogue as backup after every little change. I only want to backup the changes.

Am I missing something?

I use Time Machine, it backs up just the changes as you go, then the catalog can be restored to the point in time you need if required.

Capture One Pro as an alternative/upgrade to Aperture

Ditto.

I also back up my catalog once a month to an external I store at my office (offsite backup).

There is an automated backup facility built into C1, but I haven't used it. I saw it prompt me a couple of times before I turned it off in preferences.

Quick way to know what adjustments made??

One of the things I liked about Aperture was that when I returned to a photo, I could quickly see what adjustments I made by clicking on the Adjustments Tab and quickly scan down which adjustments had a check mark by the box.

I can't seem to find an easy way to quickly see what adjustments have been made in C1. Only way I can see is if there is a number value other than zero... and that always isn't the case. But perhaps I'm missing something. Any ideas?

You can get a checklist of all the adjustments made by copying the adjustments and looking at the adjustment clipboard tab (see attachment for a sample). To copy adjustments, do one of the following:
- Shift-Command-C
- Click the copy adjustments arrow in the top tool bar
- Right-click the thumbnail and choose "copy adjustments"

Otherwise, as you say, all you can do is see if there's been an adjustment made by scanning the list and looking at values.

Thanks. While not perfect, that is certainly helpful. Thx, VR!

Btw, thanks for starting this thread. It is the most helpful "Aperture to C1" support I've found. :)

Agree. VR is passing on a lot of great information. He's got a good handle on C1.

Much appreciated!

That's what is apparent to me, though I don't work for Adobe. I don't think that you'll ever see, for example, layers in LR. Why would they do that? C1 (and Aperture before it, which is why we all jumped on) is free to go as far as they want. They have "layers" now... but I'm hoping they'll add true functionality at some point, like opacity and blend mode control. That would be something.

If you're still using SilverFX, which is awesome of course, you might check out http://captureonestyles.com which will further reduce your need to leave the app. (I recommend it only because the grain engine built into C1 is so spectacular it's a shame not to use it.) And there's always Exposure 7 as well.

I will say that I'm sad NIK got orphaned a bit by Google. Nobody has yet devised a simpler method for local adjustments as U-Point/Viveza.

Thanks for the link, I will check that out for sure. I really like the control you get with SilverFX. It's seems to be one of the best to me in regards to structure and contrast and it has the u-point technology as well. I hope Google doesn't completely abandon it but I don't think they will. There has been at least one major update to the NIK suite since Google bought them and it was an improvement (especially for Color EFX). Google's phone app, Snapseed, also uses NIK technology and it works really well.

I don't think the layers tool in C1 has the blend mode control but it does have opacity control with the brush and the gradient tool does it automatically.

Thought I would share this. Sunrise after Cyclone Pam passed us by the other day.

This was literally two steps from the RAW, first imported and applied my custom Capture One Style on import, then recovered the foreground with the Shadows slider...then export and upload to here...

Loving Capture One :)

Anyone know where anyone hosts Capture One Styles for exchange?

Here are a couple I'm happy to share, once unzipped they need to go into

/Users/<your_username>/Library/Application Support/Capture One/Styles/

"Natural" I use as a default on import.

"Punchy" has more...punch.

All created from scratch...

No I don't... I haven't really looked into this aspect of it. Great idea though. I have one I'll share on the weekend.

Are there any larger discounts available? :D

I'm back

After a lot of soul searching I have decided NOT to purchase Capture1 Pro - OR - any other new photographic software.

Much as I like C1 the cost cannot be justified for what is really only a hobby and now a small hobby at that.

So I'll stick to PS5 with whatever freebee plugins I can find a use for and LeaveAperture cooling its heals for the odd printing job that it provides excellent UI.

Sad but age will out.

The budget and a bit of twisting of the arm of my own 'chancellor' and I am now subscribing to C1..

Reinstalling images now after mind change and really looking forward to the jump in image quality I know C1 brings..

AND the printing HUB looks great.

Well it's official. Activated my Capture One Pro copy today. I spent a few days using LR5 and C1 together side by side on my wife's brand new MBP and Thunderbolt display. It was surprisingly close. The extra integration features and the forthcoming photo merge in LR6 kept enticing me to go Adobe but in the end I liked how C1 Pro handled the RAWs better for color and detail slightly better and I liked C1's organization tools better. Never could get on board with LR5's DAM.

Thought the world would like to know.

BTW...the difference in detail and accurate color from the Thunderbolt display and my 2010 MBP is striking. It really makes my MBP monitor look like a dirty car windshield. I really need to get my own monitor soon. It's not that the lower resolution on my 15" screen makes the image any worse it's just eye opening how much better you can edit when you can really see everything that's going on in the image.

Thanks for the update. I'm fairly certain I'm going to stick with C1 but I'm going to put LR6 to the test when it becomes available.

You need a new 15" Retina MacBook with a 4K display :D :p (I use a pair of Dell P2715Q on my Mac Pro and they are stunning for photography work).

Nice....but my 2010 MBP can't push that resolution. It tops out at 2560 x 1440 and it can only push one monitor at that. I was going to go for broke on a 24" NEC but I keep reading about how good the ASUS 24" IPS Pro Graphics monitors are and for the price I may just give it a try. I don't make money off this hobby and for a 1/3 of the price it may be worth giving them a shot.

I assume you were asking Virtual but I can but in. Your GPU needs to be able to push 3840 x 2160 to make use of the "4k" capability. I'm guessing yours does since I think you have a Mac Pro. My GPU will only go to 2560 x 1440 so I could use a 4k display but I would not be making full use of it.

I've been looking at monitors a lot and have noticed the crazy price swings in the US from one retailer to another. Not sure why. Most of the large retailers are close though. Another one to consider might be the ASUS PB287Q 28-Inch Screen LED-Lit 4K Monitor. It can be found for a similar price as the Dell and is reviewed very well. I've settled on the ASUS Pro Graphics 24" (not 4k). I've read many reviews from pro photographers who were impressed with the color accuracy of the top end ASUS displays so for the price I will give them a shot.
