I just received this case. Fits fine and looks ok, but the sleep/wake feature doesn't work at all on my Air 2. It isn't the device, which sleeps/wakes with a smart cover I already had. Maybe misaligned magnets or something? Guess I'll contact RooCase and see what they say.

I ordered the same one for the same reason, the only thing that scared me and I didn't notice until after I ordered is it's got mic cutouts on the back? The new Air doesn't have them so I hope it wasn't blindly made weeks before its launch. It looks like they got that wrong hopefully the fits good if so the cutouts won't bother me.

I ordered a Besdata combination smart cover and shell to tide me over until something better comes along, only to see delivery estimate is nearly 3 weeks from now. Sigh.

I'm specifically looking for a shell to compliment a smart cover, I've always hated how much bulk a portfolio case would add to the iPad, but I'm starting to wonder if maybe this time it might be worth the investment, especially since I've always hated how I could never adjust the angle of the smart cover when I use it as a stand.

Just did, thanks for the heads up. I may have to just go with the smart cover for now and wait for the case makers to catch up and produce solid back shells for for it.

LUVVITT has something close to what I'm looking for (smooth, matte, soft shell for the back) but not the color I'm looking for (called the LUVVITT DOLCE). I'll probably wait for that one.

I don't use the Smart Cover but look at Amazon and check out some cases for the iPad Air 2. There are many cases available for pre order.

Sounds like you're looking for a Speck Candyshell. It's probably going to be a few weeks, in the meantime you could go with one or two backshells that have a frosted look. (KAYSCASE and LUVVITT DOLCE)

I was going to order the same combo until I saw the shipping timeframe. I've always used Apple Smart Covers for my older ipad 2 and mini retina so I decided to spend the $40 and get one for my new silver air 2. Purchased a white smart cover yesterday. Looks great. Today I ordered the clear KAYScase (other colors available) from Amazon and it is in stock and has shipped via USPS.

I bit the bullet and ordered the LUVVITT DOLCE in transparent frost color. The reviews are good so far and I'll get mine this Friday, so it appears to be the only confirmed smart cover compatible case out there that will fit the iPad Air 2 with immediate shipping.

I just got a smart cover from the Apple Store and it's a great fit on the Air 2, so the shell is the only thing left I need. If LUVVITT's quality is really good I'll likely swap it out if they release a darker color (unless I get used to the frosted look).

I like the idea of the smart cover, but frankly I find the viewing angles aren't great, especially in portrait mode. I'm in the same place as you. I prefer a skin for at-home use but need a case/stand for travel. This looks like it will do very nicely. Just ordered!

Unfortunately for me, these have non-detachable covers.

When I'm reading, I like to remove the magnetic smart cover and have just a back shell. I put the smart cover back on for transportation or watching movies. This would have been a perfect product for me if the cover was detachable.

BTW, I had a reply from the seller "Onix Electronics" and they told me the carbon fiber ones are on back-order until Friday next week.

Will do. I will post some pictures. I hated the huge lip on the Smart Case. This seems much better. Lets see...
