While one part of the world is baking …others are getting flooding and dying by the thousands due to water (floods). Mother Nature 101.

Apple is getting out of control with their virtue signaling. God forbid we use leather cases while kids are mining cobalt and lithium to power their cash cow iPhones.
This is not just an Apple thing. And yes, children is mining lithium, and making running shoes and sports good for giant brands.
According to you opinion, let’s not do anything as there are other issues in the world.
That has been the first world attitude for the past decades and see what it led us.
It’s not protecting cows, it’s protecting human race.
There are loads of problems to be solved, not solving any is definitely not the solution.
I love leather product, but we can’t ignore the thousands of people being killed in extreme weather events.
And curiously, the USA is one of the countries that is being suffering the most with these extreme weather events.
Ignoring the climate changes is just not a good idea.

Well we know that rather than actually work to improve working conditions at their factories, they installed nets so the workers who jumped to their deaths wouldn't die and could keep working.
Beginning to sound like they put one of the poor buggers in charge of FineWoven QC..

Finely woven case will not protect your iPhone if it’s dropped
Poor decision on Apples part
Like Steve Jobs once said ‘they’ll buy what we give them

Humans will care. Whether cows will care or not is less important.
Lol, a former leader in your country did not care. So I understand your reaction. The other guy to the east also does not care…

Not sure your trust in ‘humanity’ is entirely justified ;)

Respect and compassion for living things, you should try it sometime!

Went into the Apple Store in Bristol today and looked at the wall display of finewoven cases, finger nail score marks on just about all of them. Not really a good look. Maybe they look better once they have aged a bit, but I doubt it. Ironically I can see Apple filling up landfill with these cases when they don't sell, compared with how many they made.

Vegans blindly defending this product without even trying it themselves just because it is Apple's new "vegan case" (plastic) continue to do a disservice to their cause.

Why would you want people to think that vegan alternatives (plastic) are terrible? The FW case is an awful case. They could have made a quality "vegan case" (plastic) and that's what you should want.

Don't defend a product that is trash, it only hurts your cause in the end.

Exactly. This isn't a vegan case made for vegans at all, it's a plastic case made for cabbages.

Hey, I feel I must write this post after what I’ve said without actually touching the actual case.

Yes, videos give a terrible impression of this new case, but yesterday I was on an Apple Store, I was able to touch several, and the touch is very pleasant. I tried to scratch with my nails, and it didn’t leave any mark. So I guess they are applying a lot of force into the case on those videos.

Seriously, now I would buy one of those if they had them for the SE3.

Well I personally touched it and it got marked up super fast and I absolutely did not use force or try to damage it.

What leads me to think that maybe there are different batches with different build qualities (or even different manufacturers?) or maybe the cases exposed in my Apple Store were specially resistant.

To be fair, some of them had some light scratch, or a couple of them, but I wasn’t able to scratch them with a reasonable amount of force.

I’m probably in the minority here, but after using the FW case (pacific blue) on my iPhone 15 Pro For the past couple of days, I do actually like the case. I don’t think it will age as well as my former leather case but it suits my needs.

Lol, a former leader in your country did not care.
And he ended up full of lead in a back yard, as he deserved. From that point on, his successors couldn't afford not to care anymore. Not sure what your point is, or what this has to do with eating or using animals. Yes, humans can be a$$holes, we know that, but that's completely beside the point.

The only issues I have with these cases are:
  1. The Price. (IMO, should be $15 USD, $20 max)
  2. They replace the leather case. (It should be an option in addition to the leather case)
The scuffs and wear that happen with time add a character and uniqueness. There are many who buy pre-distressed, pre-wear-n-tear articles of clothing because they want the instant gratification of the look.

Leather appeals to some for that reason as well... they'll buy new leather items with the expectation that with time and use.

But we humans have an odd psychological bent... we want real things to look artificially perfect, and artificial things to look realistically imperfect.

Those of us with real grass lawns strive for golf course perfection, and those with artificial turf want it to have imperfections that make it look more like real grass. 😁

I returned my case and wallet this weekend to the local Apple Store. Wasn't a fan of the material, and the wallet didn't secure three cards like the leather wallet does.

China and India each put out far more carbon than North America and Europe. Nuclear power is an easy solution to reducing carbon emissions. Yet we push useless solar and wind (which rely on oil and gas backups).

Electric vehicles are worse for the environment than internal combustion engine cars. Lithium is not easy to extract safely and batteries don’t last very long. Solar power relies on strip mining rare earth metals and polluting the environment. Offshore wind power is expensive and harmful to whales.

Agreed. FW should have been piloted as an option in addition to silicone and leather. Let the market decide!

I like the old leather cases for many reasons. Discontinuing leather and implying FW is equal was just asking for trouble. FW would have been better positioned as a replacement for silicone, IMHO.

What’s wrong with leather anyway?! It’s a byproduct of the tonnes of beef we all eat. I’d rather leather continue to be made than it go to waste… we’re still eating beef and the cattle are dying in any case. Bring back leather!

There is nothing wrong with leather per se.¹

It is not a byproduct.²

¹There is a lot wrong with how animals are treated.

²Slaughter houses often only survive because they sell skins.

Apple's prices would allow it to use only leather from happy cows. With that in mind, leather is one of the best products we have. It just shouldn't be used without respect.

Here’s an idea, instead of virtue signaling and not using the leather byproduct of slaughtered cattle, maybe the green cult will propose shuttering apple in the name of “climate”.

After all, computer products rely on metals and rare earth minerals, which requires colossal amounts of fresh water to be wasted, mines to be dug, and chemicals used to destroy ecosystems. Not to mention all the oil and fossil fuels used to produce and then use these apple products.. instead of eliminating leather, maybe just eliminate apple?

In my last visit to the Apple Store, from a table away distance, you could clearly see how handling the cases had darkened them, doubly so in the light colored cases.

And it wasn’t the pleasant look of patina as on leather cases. It was just … ugly.

Anyone who says different is desperately trying to spin this poor material choice by Apple.

I just watched the Hulu series Nada, and there was a whole scene about "Happy cows" that led to a very funny interaction; I didn't even know there was such a thing... go check it out if that's something you're interested.
