My grandmother purchased an 11” iPad Pro and I had ordered the ESR tempered glass screen protector in preparation for the iPad being delivered. However, after reading this thread, I chose not to install it as I assumed it would work. This evening, I thought I’d give it a go and it’s working 100% perfectly. No issues with FaceID or touch sensitivity. She doesn’t have an Apple Pencil so I can’t comment on that however all the other functions work completely as expected.

Give it time to start messing up. That is what I experienced. When I first put the glass on things seemed fine. Then all of a sudden the touch sensitivity started really acting up. Good luck!

Exactly what happened to me. Thought I was in the clear for a day or so. Then a subconscious difficulty all the way to prodding wildly at YouTube just trying to get a £*#%ing video to stop.

Surprised media outlets like the verge, cnet, AppleInsider, Macrumours etc haven’t picked this story up. A bit of media attention might help get a fix faster

Ugh. Thanks for all the new reports guys. Not looking good though. I’d love to know what’s up with the new iPad screens. I’ve never owned a device in my life that didn’t work perfectly after a screen protector, including every other iPad. Hopefully Apple sees this and issues a statement other than “iPads don’t need them”.

And those reports where it only doesn’t work on a soft surface -that is downright bizarre.

I’m also puzzled why no one is picking this up and running with it. Seems a little nuts to me. There’s clearly been some sort of a change to the technology here that’s messing with these glass screen protectors.

Don’t expect anything other than that from Apple—they have always maintained that these products weren’t designed to be used with screen protectors. They have sold them out of their stores on and off, but it’s always been a tenuous relationship at best. There’s nothing they’re going to be obligated to fix on their end, as they have never guaranteed screen protector compatibility with any of their products.

In other words—I wouldn’t get my hopes up for any official word from Apple. This is technically not really their problem anyway.

I have that one. It didn’t work for me. Pencil worked fine but touches from the finger lags. As soon as I took it off. No problems.

I ordered one from a reputable Chinese brand- Benks. Will report back on how well it works when I receive it.

If I can’t get a glass screen protector to work with this iPad, I am returning it. My 10.5 never had this problem and Im not ready to waste my time on this anymore.

Seems like kind of a crazy reason to return.

I don’t see why. It’s indicitive of a bigger problem with the new iPad. Something is wrong and with no media commenting, it’s almost as if it’s ‘hush hush’.
It’s not a problem with the new iPad—Apple flat out doesn’t recommend even using them and doesn’t design their products around them. And I don’t think the media is hush hush about it—I think the media just doesn’t care or it’s not a big deal to most users.

I’m with all of you who want to use one—I almost always have one on my devices and screen scratches, even hairline ones that aren’t easily seen, drive me bonkers. I got mine on perfectly on this iPad and REALLY didn’t want to take it off. But it does seem silly to me that someone would rather have no iPad at all than an iPad that doesn’t work well with the current batch of screen protectors. I’m sure the manufacturers will figure out a way to make them work, but it’s probably unreasonable to expect that to happen a week and a half after the thing launched.

In the meantime it’s ok to just use the iPad and be careful with it! It will probably be fine!

Same here- thought I'd give the ESR a go as normally they're very good. FaceID works 50% of the time but the screen does not pick up touches consistently - about 30% of the time in fact - which is hopeless. Returning mine via amazon until a new version comes out.

How many of the posters here are using their new iPad without a screen protector at this time? I have left mine on but very frustrated with screen sensitivity.

I've left mine on for now - have 3 months to return to amazon (as its holiday season) so that will do until ESR get their act together. But the unresponsive screen is a PITA.

I refused to leave mine on--I don't like having to poke at an icon 5 different times to get the app to launch, and I need screen typing to work.

Took mine off. I never used a screen protector on my previous iPads but I’ve been worried about this one as this is the first time I’ve had the pencil. I’ve been using without, and using the pencil to draw, I’m just cleaning the screen each time before I start drawing.

This doesn't seem to be picked up anywhere but you might as well leave feedback on Apple dot com

https://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

It's kinda ridiculous how this is happening but it's never happened with previous gen products. Hell, even dollar store screen protectors never had this issue. It could be just a software bug or Apple could maybe provide an offering
[doublepost=1542383561][/doublepost]Theory: I remember when I had a screen protector on, it would always be spotty around where the magnets are. Maybe the 102 magnets mixed with the static from the screen protector is causing the problems?

Unrelated, but interesting -- I was noticing this week going to the gym, the remote key for my MINI Cooper worked fine, but when I got back in the car w/the same bag/keys an hour or so later to go to work, it would tell me "Remote key not detected" until I dug into my bag and pulled the keys out. Yesterday it finally dawned on me that I wasn't bringing my iPad to the gym, but I always take it to work, and my keys sit right next to the iPad in my bag.

If I took the keys OUT of my bag, remote start worked fine. So I think the magnets are pretty strong -- can't believe it took me 4 gym sessions to figure that out this week though :)

As far as screen protectors, I'm still in naked smudge-world and using a microfiber cloth. I'd love to get a glass protector on this screen at some point.

That's really interesting but I can see it not being unique to to the late 2018 iPad Pro. I think I gathered enough data to determine/predict the problem

We are using it wrong.

This would explain why some of the screen protectors start out working fine and then develop touch sensitivity issues after being on for a bit.
