Well
I’ve it on my plex server. If you have Plex, PM and I’ll invite you to test the file.

Well I'l be ...

I downloaded Austins video as used example from my earlier post, using youtubedl and this command:
youtube-dl -f 137+bestaudio YOUTUBE URL
And using ffmpeg to merge video and audio. I then uploaded the mkv file to my Plex Server, and tried playing it back with no transcoding, original 1080p 24p. And it actually seems like it could be the Youtube app, that are making the stutter worse. I need a bit more testing, but as of now, it seems much more fluid playing the same video in Plex rather than Youtube.

To be continued......

NOPE not a Youtube App issue. It seemed like it at first, but when running the video several times, switching back and forth between Youtube and Plex, my earlier conclusion still stands. It’s there sometimes, but not always at the same time. It's a 24p video problem, and I'm sure it's on every iPhone Xs version. The reason why not everyone is seeing it, is twofold. It's periodically and some are just not as perceptive to stuttering as others.

P.S. everyone should just stop filming at 24fps and go to 60fps. It looks so much better, and I still can't believe that blockbuster hollywood movies still are 24fps. The new generation hates 24fps, as we are used to playing games as high as 120fps. And even new TV's have implemented trumotion, clear motion, and what ever the brand likes to call it. That fakes in between images, making the movie experience much more pleasing to the human eye.

So your best guess hardware or software ? Cuz a beautiful OLED screen than can’t play movies is a 2000 dollar piece of trash.

PM me if you want to test the movie on my plex server. 4/4 iphone xs/max users have had problem with it. But my Iphone SE plays it just fine.

I think it is a bit worse than it ought to be. But 24p on an OLED screen, that have a greater pixel refresh than LCD, will always look much worse than a LCD screen, as you have blur to help smooth things out. Apple should implement some sort of trumotion on their OLED's, or everybody should just stop filming at 24fps. And secondly people could start this trend, and go to their iPhone camera setting, and change video from 30fps to 60fps. Don't believe me ? - see these two videos as an example, and here many of you will get the answer on what to look for, when saying your iPhone has no stutter. And if you can't see the difference, well...... lucky you ;o)

It was great on last years iPhone X, so I don’ t see why everything is worse now.
And I really can’ t believe there have been no complaints from someone like unbox therapy.

They see everything, but can’ t see this.

So what is it? HW or software?
Anyone returning their xs(max) tomorrow to get a refund?

Exactly. Can’t be a problem with OLED per se as the X is fine with 24p. It’s either an issue with this years screen hardware or an issue with iOS or maybe even the playback software of the apps.....or a combination of all three so we only see the issue with the Xs models

Actually I don’t see it on both these videos but I do on my movies downloaded from iTunes as well as Netflix etc.

Actually I may wait it out see if a software fix comes if not u can exchange it out and keep swapping after 3 times they have to give u a refund or take it back because of the no lemon law

Is anyone having any login issues? My credentials are correct and I'm able to login on my notebook, but on my iPhone XS Max, the login just cycles and cylces and fails to log me in.

I have written to Austin, UnboxTherapy, EverythingApplePro and MKBHD - but none have replied.

If this is a hardware problem, well.. then I think we all wasted a lot of money, as I see no chance of Apple recalling thousands to milions of iPhones. Still hoping and thinking it's a software issue though.

If not 3 exchanges and lemon law applies and they have to refund

Yeah, but I have to decide tomorrow.
And screen is great, no WiFi /LTE issues and no charging issues on 12.0, I am quite hesitant.

Do you even have the option to enable HDR in Netflix on the iPhone X? Or is it meant to be automatic?

Just watched Deadpool 2 downloaded from iTunes , no problems with auto brightness off. And everything on YouTube 1080p60 is very smooth, even with auto brightness on.
Must be a software issue.
People that stay in the same lighting conditions , remain in the same place, even with auto brightness on, could not experience the problem, because brightness of the screen doesn’ t automatically change on their display, so they are not experiencing issues.

So HDR isn't included in their basic package through T-Mobile?
No, you can actually see it, if you click on a movie on the start screen , you get a text introduction. Above the text introduction of lost in space you see the Dolby vision logo, if it isn’ t there, it is not enabled. You need the 4k subscription for that.

Damn, that sucks. I guess YouTube is where I can only get HDR content for now.

I can get it to trigger almost every time when playing a movie through the TV app and turning on/off the lights in the room. It looks to me like repeated bursts of stutters with normal video in between until the screen brightness stabilizes.

Interestingly this also happens when recording / playing back video in the camera app when video is set to 24fps. So far I have not been able to reproduce using the Plex app (set to no transcoding).

Is every one that’s on the iOS beta 12.1 beta 2 at lease sending in reports and diagnostic logs to apple if enough people do it get fixed and yes I just confirmed if your out since under very bright lights it don’t do it in a dark room it does it so it hard to do with the auto brightness it’s not just hdr it’s also any 24p video

Hi.
Just bought a iPhone XS 256 GB today. Ordered online and picked it up at the Apple Store Berlin so I would get the 14 days time for returning the device. I thought I give it a try...
This Phone does not show any signs of a weaker WiFi signal. Further LTE Tests will follow. Also the ChargeGate bug does not occur.
The thing I was mostly worried about is what I read in this Tread. I consume a lot of media/videos on my iPhone so that is what I mainly wanted to use the new XS for.
I recognized the same stuttering issue on multiple Netflix videos. It feels like someone turned on slow motion for a couple of seconds or longer and then again it is better. I always had a bit of a problem in general with the video playback on iOS devices regarding the whole iTunes library and also Netflix. I think since everything is played at 24 FPS it had always been stuttering a little bit. Compared to my big TV that does tons of processing to smoothen moving images, it was always a little bit annoying to me watching movies on iOS. But this studdering on the XS is so bad that I can not even look at it without getting dizzy.
I also wonder about what framerate netflix is giving me on the iPhone XS. I feel like I always get 24 FPS, is that right? When I watch Netflix on my 4K TV it always tells me on the title screen, if I get a 4K signal and HDR. And I also think every 4K material is played in 60fps?! On the Phone there is only an indication for DolbyVision. Do I ever get 60 FPS on Netflix on the Phone? When compared to a 60 FPS Clip on YouTube, which runs buttery smooth, videos on Netflix (also all the newer ones that show a Dolby Vision Icon on the title screen) seem far less smooth????

I will return this otherwise gorgeous phone, because I could not live with the stuttering issue and am worried about this never getting fixed. Maybe I will also pick up an iPhone X that seems to have no bugs and “gates”.

Just set it up as a new iPhone and you won’t have issues

Just disable auto brightness, this will solve it the heave stutters, until there is a software update to fix it.

No it won’ t, mine was setup as a new iPhone , still have the same issue.

I did set it up as a new iPhone. How sure can I be that they are able to fix it?
Does Netflix always play 24 FPS on Phones?

If all they have to do is a fix the auto brightness issue, should be an easy fix.

I watched some iTunes content st 24hz with auto brightness off, and it ran smooth.

I don’ t know if Netflix only has 24hz content, will look into it.

I don’ t even know if it will run smooth on an iPhone X or that they have the same problems. IPhone X on iOS 11 was fine, but didn’t try it on iOS 12, before I sold it.

Netflix has some 30fps stuff too. Most series like Better call Saul etc are 30fps and I watched that with auto brightness on without an issue
