For anyone searching the forums for LV/registered/ecc/16GB module results: I just picked up some 16GB and 8GB sticks, low voltage, registered, ECC, and my results of a few tests re: 3 vs 4 sticks are in line with post #70:

16x16x16 = best bandwidth
16x16x16x16 = lower bandwidth (about 14-16% drop)
16x16x16x8 = much lower bandwidth (about 40-50% drop)

GB4 results:
Best Bandwidth (16x16x16 48GB):
single core just under 14GB/s ,Multi-core just under 20GB/s

Worst Bandwidth (16x16x16x8 56GB):
single core just under 8GB/s , Multi-core just under 10GB/s

RAM specs are:
HP647653-081-hym (HP server pulls)
Hynix modules
16GB DDR3 SDRAM
PC3L-10600R
1333MHZ
Registered
ECC
DUAL RANK: 2Rx4
LOW VOLTAGE
CL9

Machine specs are: 4,1 flashed to 5,1 single x5690 @3.46GHz 6-core, 140.0.0.0.0 BIOS, running Mojave 10.14.2 (GTX670... if that is meaningful)

I will be testing a pair of these in the next little while -
Samsung 2x32GB 4RX4 DDR3 PC3-12800R 1.5v ECC

I am hoping 4RX4 works better in Mojave and 140

Update: Samsung 2x32GB 4RX4 DDR3 PC3-12800R 1.5v ECC DO NOT WORK IN MP5,1 IN ANY COMBINATION TRIED.

Doesn't even get detected..Searching for a 2rx4 variant atm

Thanks for posting. Post #101 with the 3* 16GB looks like the way to go as far as I can see, unless someone finds an alternative. Actually 6*16GB Ram for my 12 core Mac Pro 5.1 looks like the go.

Darn, would be nice if the Samsung modules worked. Oh well...

BTW, nice profile pic... emerald tree boa or green tree python? I could never really tell the two apart.

Green tree python good eye ;)

It's said that this type works:
M393B4G70BM0-YH9

Mine DO NOT:
M393B4G70EMB-CK0

AFAIK, there is no 2Rx4 32GB options. The theory suggest that in this specific case, 12800R is the issue. Need 10600R to let the BootROM detect and initialise the DIMM correctly.

the M393B4G70BM0-YH9 are 10600R moduls
As Samsung M393B4G70BM0-YH9 are 4Rx4 @32GB, doesn't that mean they won't be identified by the Mac OSX? Did notice some Samsung M393B4G70BM0-YH9 2Rx4 @ 8GB for sale on ebay, which I assume would work though.

do you guys think my memory would be compatible with 4,1 2009 Mac Pro ?

i got some stick's laying arround :
MT36JSZS1G72PY-1G1A1DD (micron 8GB DDR3 1066 ECC modules with heatsinks)
I think they are RDIMM's

They look almost the same like the MT36JSZF1G72PZ-1G4D1DD as mentionted in the starting post of this topic.

What do yo guys think ?

Should work, this is the spec sheet for your memory https://www.datasheet.live/index.ph...-1/micron_technology/MT36JSZS1G72PY-1G4XX.pdf

today I tested MT36JSZS1G72PY-1G1A1DD memory with my 2009 Single CPU 4,1-5,1 flashed Mac Pro.
MacOS sees the memory just fine, and reports all working ok within MacOS system profiler.

However when trying to test the memory with Apple ASD (OS and EFI) it gives me an error.
I don't know why this is.

Error says : Memory size miscompare, actual size is not what expected - TEST failed

also see provided screenshot.

Does this ASD not expect 8GB DIMM's, and that is why it's reporting an error for me ?
I read somewhere on the web that 16GB modules should give errors since it is a bug in ASD testing software, does this maybay also count for 8GB modules ?

Hope somebody can help me out, Am I having bad memory here ?

I tested with with 1 memory block, and with two at the sime time.
Using memory slot 1 and 2.
But this error is also there, when only using one 8GB memory module in slot 1.

When using original 6GB (3x2) no problems at all...

Yes, think basically runs another GUI of memtest. Think there’s a deep scan mode or something similar to let run for awhile with Rember.

Ok, thx
well test is running now with Amount of Memory set to All, and loops 1 (default settings)
I do not see an option for deep scan mode, or is it hidden somewhere in Remember memory test App ?
Somebody here got an idea.. ?

Perhaps I can also run Memtest86 for Mac.
good idea also.. ?

Been awhile since I’ve used some of these apps... know there was one with a deep scan that basically looped for 24 hours and did some memory storage/purge thing that mimicked video render functionality.

Long story short: if you’re passing all these tests via apps so far, not likely an issue. Run the terminal command for last verification.

well Remember ran the memory test all just fine, like reported.
It however could not get all the ram to test, since not everything was available it said.
I think this maybay has to be since macos is also running along side it..

I also ran memtest86 for a few hours, and no errors found either. (have not finished the test)
All looked good and fine.

So far it looks like ASD tests give this strange error, but does not relate to bad memory blocks.
maybay a bug in ASD ?
It also gives me the error immediately withouth even running a test at all.

What does your memory report look like in About > System Report/Info? Post screenshot of that page. Also doublecheck the memory tab there.

sure, please see my screenshot.
I cannot find any problems here, and macOS also runs fine with these memory sticks so far..

So far it looks like only ASD is giving strange errors but not other memory test programm's...

If everything working and no LED errors, wouldn’t worry too much.

Do wonder if the PC3-8500R rating is causing ASD errors. PC3-12800R is currently in my system. Believe only used 10600 as well.

everything is indeed working well so far, cannot see any problems..
maybay that is why ASD is tripping out.. ?
It detects other memory than it expects.. ?
