I believe ya

Have no c7 or a1e hands on experience

And I know ur a screen stickler like moi

Am I ever... Oy. Sometimes I wish I could be someone else.

I've shown several people my iPhone X today because - let's face it - it's awesome. And not a single person has complained about the screen uniformity/off-axis/color shift. Because we, here, are in the minority.

Yep. Depending on how you define straight on. With True Tone off I don't really see it. However, tilting the phone shifts colors pretty dramatically as we all know.

well dang, I wouldn't care at all about TT uniformity

thats its own weird thing

with TT off, if its uniform I wouldst sweat NADA

bigger things to dodge with a screen than that

LOL.

Congrats man!

Were you part of the group that borrowed 300 iphone X from outside of apple store in SF ? :p

LOOK guys

I have an opened brilliant 64 silver in hand

If family members/friends don’t want a 64 SG and Silver I’ll return unopened

Pls don’t PM me with offers don’t want it but im prepared to crack other two open in name
Of science if no one else wants it prior to returning if things heat up enough to want some hands on 3 unit comparisons. I’d settle for top of 3 but I have a BEAUT and will not lose lottery or build or anything this go around since this is a special release and it’s a lot of money.

But my screen is EPIC and this iPhone is a pure joy so far.

I don’t expect
To change my mind

I was concerned of quality and brightness. Not anymore

OLED is king if you get a good unit

I think you might be more likely to get a beauty of a screen with silver devices.

That’s not been my experience with my two units. Both are silver 64Gb.

The only difference is factory and build dates, plus they didn’t come from the same retailer - the one I’m sending back is from Very and the good one from Apple.

Really don't know what to do with this iphone X

The screen in unbearable. It's shifting to blue like if I move my head 10cm on top of it, I'm not even speaking about angles here...

I see other people report the same; 64G Silver ; serial number starting with G6 as well.

Is it me or only people with silver are complaining here ?

I think I'll ask for a replacement - even if it means waiting a few weeks, and i'll see how it goes from there.

It's a bit too soon I suppose for apple to start a replacement program but I cannot start to believe anyone would consider this level of shifting "normal" ; it makes Truetone ridiculous ! I've got my own true tone by slightly tilting the thing, it goes from "too warm" to "way too cool" in maybe 20 degrees in inclination...
What use is truetone on top of such a crap display ?

Is that flagship ? Makes no sense to me... has to be a defect ?

I noticed a lot of color tint on mine. It is pretty annoying and very easily seen even just browsing through emails from a regular viewing angle - since the screen is so tall I presume. I am not very happy about it but maybe one gets used to it, but for the premium price Im leaning towards going back to my iPhone 7+ again - that screen is flawless.

That is a screen defect. Exchange it.

I noticed the exact same thing on mine and I don't think you should replace your iPhone. It's impossible to have so many defect units. I disabled TT because the color just makes no sens. You have 14 days to change your mind, just relax and enjoy the phone. We will know soon enough if we really have an issue. I love my iPhone X and I'm happy I got it on day one.

I'm seeking info next monday (will compare in local shops) and I'll also try to make video. I've see other reviews on youtube and they don't have that level of shifting.

I'm nearly sure there's a "crap batch" (probably for the cheaper 64GB iphones).

Capacity will have nothing to do with it

I GUARANTEE I don't have a bad screen. I'm used to OLED by now so I know how they work quite well.

Here's my phone with True Tone set to ON. It behaves just like my 2017 LG OLED TV, in many respects. i.e. it color shifts even within the color shift. It's just an OLED thing - for now at least.

Exchange that, that is a defect.

Hey folks,

I've heard about the general yellowish display, but just wondered if anyone's noticed the issue I seem to be experiencing. When looking at any app with a white background, the display starts a nice, crisp white at the top of the screen, then becomes every-so-slightly yellowish further down. This is very subtle, but noticeable when browsing MacRumors, especially as I scroll up. Disabling True Tone doesn't change anything, just the shade.

I've uploaded a pic - it's subtle, but you can see that the bottom post is yellower than the one above.

Is this just me or is this the same yellowing effect others are seeing? A slightly yellow screen I can cope with, but it must be uniform. Hoping it's software and can be fixed as I really don't want to have to return it. I'm thrilled with it in every other way.

This looks almost straight on slight angle but not much of one

Definitely shouldn’t look like that all two toned with a from top to bottom shift. if you’re seeing what it looks like in the photograph it looks like a faulty panel to me. Or beyond tolerance I would accept

It seems to me apple just sold millions of such "defective units".
Mine is exactly the same as @WilliamG

It's time Macrumors starts to relay this problem I think.

It looks worse IRL! I’ve just boxed it up for return. Glad I had another to compare it too, especially as I don’t live near an Apple store.

Thank you to everyone on this thread for your feedback and experiences. It seems there is definitely some variance out there and I appreciate the insight on normal OLED tolerances etc. The one I’m keeping does exhibit colour changes at a relatively shallow angle, but looking dead on is absolutely fine and that’s what matters to me.

Appreciate all the tips on calibrating the colours too! :)

Got a pic of the one you’re keeping?

Happy enough with it or gonna try your luck again with more stock?

I’ve got a 64gb silver and 256 SG. Both screens are absolutely identical. Both shift tone at just the slightest angle. Pretty sure this is expected behavior. Every time I would play with Samsung phones in the store it hurt my brain because of how it looked off axis. Like a shimmering oil slick. I had a Note 5 for a few days now that I think about it, and I used to think that I was seeing the pen layer or something overlaid over the screen.

I got used to it pretty quickly on my X, but I think it is because I hold my hand pretty steady.

Between the viewing angle shimmering color changes, the ridiculous over-saturation of early Samsung phones, and the jagged looking pixel layout of those early phones, I just never understood why people were so hyped over OLED. I always felt like the negatives outweigh the positives of black blacks and (maybe) battery life.

Apple’s IPS screens have been damn incredible and accurate.

The color temp changing was bugging me at first on my X, so I turned my 7 back on to find that it now looks washed out in comparison, not to mention tiny and less like it is floating on the surface of the glass. I vastly prefer the X screen to the 7, but it sure as heck isn’t perfect.
