Thanks for your feedback @QquegChristian .

Really.
We don't see many people admitting this unbearable shift. Most people say it does not exist, which makes me mad.

It's a bit like cars ; if you ask people what they think of their car, especially if it's expensive, most people say it's the best they ever had. I'm not like that and neither are you and I appreciate that. thanks again.

If I could be convinced this is not a defect on my phone, it would probably ease my mind, so I'm heading to the shop on monday to compare with others.

However it's likely there will soon be a "better screen than that" (iphone XS ?) so do I really like to stick with the expensive equivalent of the iphone5 fiasco ? not sure.

so it looks almost slightly hotter up top with TT on first boot-- but with True Tone off, its uniform take my word for it

and this is straight on when I was stuck on activation screen with True Tone on (obviously dependent on light some made it look piss yellow and other natural lighting its a more neutral white sheet).

LOOKS way better than other units I've seen here, with the obvious color shift.

I can take another photo of screen with TT off even tho OLED is tough to accurately photograph, to show ya but just know that TT shows 'uniformity' issues even on a perfectly uniform display just like my 12.9 gen 2 LED

I will say if you're extremely sensitive to off axis tint, LED is probably preferable route to go. If you can deal, OLED (a good unit at least), blows away the 7/8plus in all other facets

ok like I said its tough to photograph these displays accurately (for example there is no green tint thats kinda showing up in the center of this pic, when looking at the display with my eyes) but this is just to show no glaring color shift/uniformity issues, with true tone off, and that nice panels do exist. Also looks a lot crisper in person than the pic lets on, but

Man. I just adjusted mine to that setting. Preach! Looks fantastic indeed.
Would you or someone else mind posting that setting again ? I can’t find the original the threads moving too fast. I’ve got this yellow issue too. Argh

Here you go. Yes it works. Yes the display is wonderful once you calibrate to suit your tastes.

Having had several Samsung Galaxy phones in the past I can tell you that OLEDs vary from unit to unit MUCH more than you would think

1) I have seen two Galaxy Note 4 phones side by side, one that had a pinkish tint off angle, and one that had greenish!
2) I have seen two Galaxy S6 phones side by side, one which colour shifted more than the other at the same angle!
3) One of the S6s had a pinkish hue to white towards the bottom even when looked at straight on
4) ALL of the phones had an issue with very very dark shades where it wasn't uniform, as if some pixels were darker than others. One of them looked like it had a darker column about 1cm wide in the middle when displaying a very dark brown

Bottom line is, we have swapped some of the LCD variances for OLED ones. Expect everyone's to be a bit different!

Mine is a bit warm in indoor lighting with True Tone on. But goes the opposite extreme with it off, going really quite bluish. I think the true tone implementation for the X needs some adjustment. I know what D65 should look like because I have an Eizo auto calibrating monitor. That being said it is not like the piss yellow which some LCD iPhones have had that makes everything look dirty. Its not yellow enough to be distracting at all. With outdoor light it looks very neutral which is why I think the implementation is not quite right yet.

yeah the bottom line is OLED is a panel lottery just like LED

even me who got a keeper first try can concede that.

people who thought it wasn't, are wrong.

--

its also not SamsungGate. They're the only ones making quality mobile OLED panels.

the LG pixel2 XL and V30 OLED screens made by LGDisplay have been terrible and plagued the experience to no end for people who tried them out in spite of that.

I'l try what you recommend just after typing this, I really appreciate any help :)
[doublepost=1509795663][/doublepost]@Technarchy I have to admit it helps a bit

It helps setting the screen to an already cold setting (all of this is with TT off of course) so it's less "obvious" when it goes to even colder colors.

It avoids going "from hot to cold" by tilting it, it now goes "from cold to colder"...

It's a hack... But it's helpful. Thanks for sharing. I still think this screen is not worth 1000 as is :)

heres another pic of my display at around 70% brightness, which if anything should show color shift/uniformity issues easier than full blast

disregard the grain and green blob/that diagonal banding (not there at all in real life-- I wouldn't put up with that), all artifacts of camera/focus in this shot **but** this shows my screen's tint fairly accuraetly compared to other pics I tried to take

once again REALLY happy with it, seems some people weren't so lucky in this thread. this is with no display accommodations tweaking in settings either

Never been to SF

And that’s awfully dumb apple will blacklist that stolen batch.

People don’t think at all :D

Except those criminals that stole those iPhones will sell those phones new in the box to those unsuspecting individuals who have no idea that they been blacklisted. Those criminals could care less if they been blacklisted or not.

That's a good point.

Hopefully they trace back to whoever people get stuck with those bum blacklisted units

Someone else suggested they go to repair parts overseas market.

Who knows. Crazy tho !

I hope most people who had preorders delayed cause of it in SF got some form of extra love from apple

That would be a disappointing launch day. I was soooo impatient yesterday waiting to get it in my hands and delivered

That my friend was frigging amazing. It’s like a new phone. What a difference it makes. Someone else about 6 pages back mentioned turning down white levels as well. Is this the same setting ??

You get a MR gold star from me. Thanks again!!

I really don't wanna adjust it cause my screen is great to my eyes but what did this fix for ya?

Right when I opened it I felt it was yellow. Like piss yellow. Turned off True Tone immediately but I still wasn’t wowed by it. It’s supposed to have this super amazing screen and I kept going back to my 7 plus instead.

His settings make it look cooler. CNN and MR backgrounds are an absolute white now. Everything looks crisper and even colors are popping more. Sorry , I don’t know the technical words for all of this but I wasn’t happy before and am happy now. Even if it’s just psychological I don’t care. I put those settings , it looks great now I’m going to stop thinking of yellow etc and just enjoy the phone. Give It a try. You can always go back to whatever you had before.

Gotcha

I’ve tinkered with that before and it adjusts all the colors too

I’m in love with my display as is but just curious what effect it was accomplishing if colors don’t look off after adjustments (that’s what crayon color spectrum is there for) and it resolved the issue for
You hell ya!

Uniform but MILD yellow can usually be ironed out with something like that

You should invert colors for a minute to see how nice near black and dark shade menus look on OLED

That’s exactly what it was in my case. Uniform but mild yellow. I’ll try the invert colors thing too. Umm. How? Haha

Got a pic of the one you’re keeping?

Happy enough with it or gonna try your luck again with more stock?

I’m very happy with what I’ve got, wouldn’t want to risk getting another bad one. Coming from a 6, I’m blown away by the display.

Here’s a pic of the one I’m keeping, tried to get the angle as close as poss to last time.

Ok figured it out. Wow!!!! This phones begging for a dark mode. Had that on my blackberry z30 and loved it.

Btw another benefit of the technarcky settings are reduced brightness levels. To really enjoy it before I had the screen up to 70%. Now that actually hurts the eyes and it looks great at 30%. Should help with battery life.

Never did get the True Tone thing. Had an iPad Pro to play with for a week and simply couldn’t stand it.

This thread has been successfully infiltrated by trolls, haters, and conspiracy theorists. I’ve seen what brigading has done to places like reddit and it’s not pretty.

Anyway, of course everyone wants that ‘perfect’ screen. Guess what? There’s nothing to worry about. Just move on with your life, OLED just takes some time getting used to, it’s a different technology than IPS LCD.

And also, I am an acolyte of The Church of TrueTone. You just need faith, you have to believe in the Superior Way of the TrueTone God. You won’t be able to turn back to those displays without it. It’s just a fact of life now :p

The hilarious thing is that now my darn 7 plus looks yellow! This white blue look is growing on me.

What I need to do is pack up the other phone , stop comparing and just have fun. The x actually shows more information on the screen on cnn and MR. but it’s narrow so my mind things it’s smaller. Once I start using it exclusively all the niggles will go away. For now I keep picking up the plus because my eyes and brain are used to the way it looks.
