Here's another example - if you look at 5:05 in this video:

Can clearly see it's the same thing I experience.

bsL4Tqh.jpg

In that video it looks uniform

In that screen grab I see two tone. Not seeing that at that angle or even more extreme angles on my X

Must be the polarizer too or could be..

When u observe X models in store pay attention to camera grey. Reveals general tint of display especially comparing two X’s (I had a silver and space grey side by side with some variation in store, to be expected from panel lottery)

In the video it does not look uniform, which is I'm able to stop the video and see the color shift! :D

I'm very sensitive to it, so I can see it even when he's holding the phone head on. There's a shift in colors at even the most minuscule of angles, and those of us sensitive to it are going to be driven a bit crazy by it. That's just the way it is. If you don't see it, lucky you - that's all I can say.

I’m positive I know what you’re describing and what i see and how common that is with OLED.

I’m just maintaining mine is a uniform tint regardless of what the tint is off axis and especially straight on.

I had to have lucked out bc I am incredibly

Not wanting to argue, but the laws of angles dictate that can't be true. When you tilt any rectangular device away from you, the one side of said device is going to be at a more oblique angle than the bottom of the device. It's not a subjective thing. Therefore, the tint cannot be completely uniform. It may appear uniform once the angle gets sufficient enough that the tint is in full effect throughout the device, but not before.

On mine white is blue or blue/gray. True Tone sort of turns it yellow, but it never gets white. Is white something oled never does, like lcd’s refusal to show black?
Have you done the calibration that we were discussing a page ago? It works wonders

And I'd be willing to bet you anything you like they do. Most people don't notice it or care. I had several in my very own house.

Like I said, it's not a hot left/right edge. It's a viewing angle thing.

Just like 100% of iPhone X off angle turn blue.

Is that what you’re debating tho that the display is blue off axis?

If so I never intended to debate that.

More that mine doesn’t have dual tint like these displays can.

And getting a perfect 65 c7 is probably a feat but they absolutely exist.

Here's a video of two Google Pixel 2s. One exhibits a bad shift in blue, my iPhone X looks very similar, if not worse. This can't be "normal". I imagine there to be some shift, but mine literally turns from a white background to straight up a blue hue lol.

As a designer and photographer, this just pains me and is actually really annoying. I'm hoping that there are some iPhone X's out there that don't have such a bad shift in color.

Not sure if I should set up a genius appointment or wait it out to see if Apple releases a statement.

Hi
Got my X this morning - when the display is head on there is an almost yellow tint to it; when I turn it to the side it is obviously much more white

Why is this??

I even turned off ‘True Tone display’ but that hasn’t changed anything...

Thoughts?
James :)

I am a photographer and have been waiting patiently to upgrade to the iPhone X since my last phone has been the 6 (not even the S). And I was like most of you here disappointed by the screen color tone and something about it didn’t feel as nice and solid compared to the LCD of my previous iPhone and iPads.

Having said that. I think there are two issues. 1. The overall yellow tint. 2. The off angle viewing color shift.

What I have found is mainly a solution to the first problem. And it kind of takes care of the second problem a bit on its way.

What you should try doing is going to Settings - General - Accessibility - Display Accomodations - Color Filters

Once in there, turn it on. And select “Color Tint” from the options.

Keep the “intensity” at the lowest possible setting.

And move the “hue” to about 2/3 of the way. Then once generally there. Slightly fine tune it by moving it left and right. To the left you’ll get a more green tint. To the right you’ll get a more red tint. In the middle you’ll have a perfect blue tint to counteract the yellowness of the display and give you something as close to neutral white as possible.

To check your results scroll back up and toggle the “Color Filters” on and off to see the difference.

I attached a screenshot of the setting.

Hope this helps.

Nick

As a photographer, I appreciate your post, nice little setting I didn't know about. Unfortunately, regardless of settings, once my phone gets at an angle, it straight up turns color. No settings can fix that unfortunately. The screen dead on is gorgeous though. Sad.

I really don’t get this colour shift off axis with OLED when in regards to TV’s the consensus is OLED has better viewing angles than LCD TV’s and is one of the reasons to opt for an OLED set over an LCD one. Even seen a number of photos and videos that show that to be the case. Seems like the OLED displays in phones are inferior.

On the yellow issue, if mine is too yellow it will be going straight back, didn’t accept that nonsense with the 7 last year, definitely won’t with the X.

Tvs use a bit different tech than Miike screens which accounts for the differences.

I visited a different Apple Store, returned mine, and bought another. Old one was warmer than display models confirmed by rep who sold me the new one, also happened to be a tech and was helping sales people out. My new one is better than the old in terms of slight yellow tint straight on. Color shift is the same. True Tone just makes these displays very warm, is all.

I compared my new one to 4 in store models today. They all look the same with TT enabled. Mine looks identical to the store models now, which is all I ask for. It is just warmer with TT enabled, but should not be yellow. With TT off mine is cool, as it should be. So I’ve owned 2 phones and physically played with 7 additional ones in store. Every one of them gets quite warm with TT, it is how it is. If your phone is nice and crisp and cool with TT off, it is a keeper.

Old serial started with G6. New one is F18. No dead pixels and screen is uniform. Score. I am done and plan on enjoying the phone!

I had to turn off true tone as well. So is there something wrong with the display if it looks way yellow, or is there something wrong with true tone? I like the concept of changing hue due to ambient light conditions, but I don't think it currently works as intended.

With true tone off the display has almost perfect whites with a slight warm tint to it.

OK, so this non-uniform colour when looking dead on at the screen has me irritated now. I can't unsee it.

Fortunately, I ordered 2 X's from different suppliers. I was going to send the second one back without even opening it, but decided to pop open the box for a comparison.

The current phone (with the non-uniform colour) is on the left. "New" phone on the right. Brightness set to the same level and True Tone on.

The difference is quite startling. In the first pic showing control centre, the left phone is slightly pinker at the top. The right phone had a uniform grey colour top to bottom.

In the second pic, the left phone almost looks lilac at the top. The right phone again is uniform, if a little darker.

There is definitely a difference in these panels. Although the right phone is darker, I much prefer the uniform colour.

I checked the serial numbers and they were made in different factories - the left in Shenzhen and the right in Zhengzhou.

I'll be sending the left phone back. If anyone wants me to do anything further comparisons before I erase it and box up for return tomorrow, please let me know and I'll be happy to help.

How you knew the factory names? My factory is c39

Thanks
