Yep. I just spent 15-20 mins with a display model X and anything off centre, as in even a few degrees in any direction and the blue just overwhelms the display. Holding the screen exactly perpendicular to my face's direction and it's good, but in all honesty who holds the phone exactly (I mean to the single degree) like that? I sure don't.

It's very noticeable and quite a let down IMO. I didn't check other OLED display phones, I only compared it to my 7, but if all other OLEDs are like this I'd gladly stay with Apple's IPS panels.
I was going to make a trip to an Apple store to compare mine but what you’re saying confirms what I suspected; that’s just the way it is.

I am going to take a trip to the Apple store this and see for myself if all X’s have this same characteristics.
Holiding my phone one handed in my left hand, the screen shifted to cyan just by reaching with my thumb over to the reply button.
This!

I don’t know if I have a defective screen but the shift is so noticble. I have to hold the phone is perfect condition. Don’t notice this on the S8. Ugh...this is the only thing bothering on this amazing phone.

Report back when you get the chance. I'm hoping the display unit I saw was defective. It would be a real shame if all Xs are like this, because otherwise this is a fantastic phone - I loved everything else about it.

My silver 64 att unlocked is a beauty

Week 43 F2 serial iOS 11.0.1 loaded

Others I’ve seen start C6 or something I think?

I had a pixel 2 xl and it shifted to blue much sooner than my X does. It drove me crazy on the pixel, but doesn't bother me on the iPhone as you have to go much further off axis to notice it.

Looked at a demo, it's got the same blue off axis that my V30 has.

It didn't appear very yellow once I turned off true tone.

Overall it's an okay device.

Oh man, good to hear! You have credibility as I know you have been affected by apples poor screen QC in the past. Good to hear that good screens are out there.

An absolute beaut. I have another unit in case it didn’t work out but I don’t even think I need to compare and will just sell or return it

The build is top notch too no rough edges or loose buttons or haptic rattle

OK, so this non-uniform colour when looking dead on at the screen has me irritated now. I can't unsee it.

Fortunately, I ordered 2 X's from different suppliers. I was going to send the second one back without even opening it, but decided to pop open the box for a comparison.

The current phone (with the non-uniform colour) is on the left. "New" phone on the right. Brightness set to the same level and True Tone on.

The difference is quite startling. In the first pic showing control centre, the left phone is slightly pinker at the top. The right phone had a uniform grey colour top to bottom.

In the second pic, the left phone almost looks lilac at the top. The right phone again is uniform, if a little darker.

There is definitely a difference in these panels. Although the right phone is darker, I much prefer the uniform colour.

I checked the serial numbers and they were made in different factories - the left in Shenzhen and the right in Zhengzhou.

I'll be sending the left phone back. If anyone wants me to do anything further comparisons before I erase it and box up for return tomorrow, please let me know and I'll be happy to help.

Honestly, every single one of these panels is going to have some shift. It's the nature of OLED right now. Again, I've tested NUMEROUS OLED TVs, - and currently have an excellent unit of the LG 2017 C7P 65" OLED. But on pure whites or off-whites the color shift IS there. That's when you tend to notice it the most.

Scroll in this video to 4:20.

Fill in the blank here:
"Looking at the iPhone X side-by-side with the iPhone 8, I think the X is noticeably ____________"

Spoiler alert: the word is cooler.

Its ether the exact Verge screen for me, or I return.
What’s interesting is I took a photo of my 8 and my X and the 8 looks warmer in the pic, even though in reality my X is considerably warmer than my 8. I would not trust videos/pics. It’s an odd phenomenon.

He mentions in the review, in plain english, that the X is cooler.

If your X is warmer, its panel variance. If you like it warm, keep it. If you dont, try for another panel. There is no "1 tint": for the X, or any other iphone.

Shift shouldn’t be a concern at all

Anyone who understands screen tech in mobile space should
Know shift is characteRistic confirmation it’s an OLED. I’m beyond cool with it n

If it’s uniform spot on and tolerable shift you have an absolute keeper and light speed leap over LED even P3 color space LED (IMO)

The more I stare at my X the more it annoys me. Even with TT off, while looking at the screen from dead center / head on, it's still warmer. If I angle the screen it actually looks perfect / like my 7. So strange, usually head on would look the best with OLED. Pixel 2 had terrible blue shift but at least head on it was fine. Really like the X, but for $1000 I can't say I am over joyed. Said it before and I'll say it again. OLED on phones is so overrated, nothing was wrong with IPS. So torn on whether I will keep the phone now.

Thanks for the tech lesson and arbitrary corrections. Just pointing out that videos / pics will skew reality.

Please don't take this as an attack...but is it possible that you've just become accustomed to something less accurate?

OLED is an incredible evolution in display technology (especially with televisions, but I'll stick to mobile here) for a number of reasons.

If you read what I said about the Verge review, the X should be cooler than the 7 or 8. He has images of them side by side in different lighting conditions.

Many others have nice cooler screens. Dont settle. Its not supposed to warmer. It isnt intentional. Its inferior and defective. Return it. The screen should dazzle you.

How much longer before you get a grip on reality? There are different calibrations of the X. The 7 and 8 were warmer than the 6S and people tried to say it was "more accurate" then. Its the same BS story every year. Its panel variance. Swap it out.

If you have a good quality unit it’s so obvious. Not up to debate.

Wish more understood this. You will be stunned out of the box. If you are "well it looks Ok I guess", you got a bad one. For sure for sure.

How yellow does your screen get when you turn on TT? My serial starts with G6 for what it’s worth.

No offense taken. I’m very accustomed to accurate displays, I calibrate every screen I have with a colorimeter. Love the LG C7 TV. It’s more than likely the color shift I am just not used to. I’ve gone back to just disabling my color adjustments and using stock settings with TT off. “Good at an angle” on mine may well be inaccurate and I just need to get used to the shift.

Again, doesnt matter what is in the video, it matters what he confirms as he is there in real life. The video happens to back up what he is saying, but his statement is what matters.
