How can the Mac Pro's speed be different?

2.26Ghz Xeon i7 ram speed is 1066.

2.66Ghz Xeon i7 ram speed is 1333.

Is apple going to make these two use different ram speed or am I missing something here.

I just hope that one of these new iMacs will be less than $1800 (australian dollars) and be able to play StarCraft II and Diablo III. :D

Likely?

lol i am Australian too i am PRAYING they will not go up anymore than $500 (they will go up ANYWAY due to exchange rate decreasing nearly 40 %)

LOL its actually really exciting i just got into Macs and wanting to get an iMac like a month ago so its all new to me.

I wonder if there will be a slight design change, like thinner, bigger, less 'chin' ???

I don't see the problem with the chin, I went from a white intel 17" iMac to a current 24" iMac and the chin takes up far less space in these models and isn't that noticable.

Um... I'm pretty sure the current gen of machines can easily play those games.

ummm yeah lol thats right. I wouldn't even turn my head at the iMac if it couldn't. I hear that the top line 3.06 can play nearly any game you throw at it (even Crysis on very high settings) via VMware/ bootcamp (through Windows).

Oh really? That's awesome. I am hoping to get the cheapest or second cheapest new iMac - and play a few of Blizzard's high quality games that come out later this year and next year on it! Plus Bioware's The Old Republic. :D Along with video editing of course.

fwiw, these specs have been confirmed by me.

Anyone have an good explanation for the Mac Pro specs?

Here's what I believe:

One of the Mac Pro have a 8CX in his name, the other QCX.

8CX (8 Cores) could be associated with the current Mac Pro, just with the new boards and Xeons processors. "Aka" the Mac Pro we all know.

QCX (Quad Core) Would be a new desktop form Apple, still a Macbook, but would not use Xeons, only a Quad Core Nehalem Processor, which would be essentially be a mid tower, a lot cheaper then the Xeons desktops.

But GT120 cards are G96. G96 cards are Geforce 9500GT cards. Making them lowered then the Macbook Pro cards. That does not sound right to me.

The ATI 4870 sounds right though.

Also missing in the SKUs are nvidia quadro cards.

Considering the OP is a newbie here who has posted 3 threads on the same topic, and has only posted 8 times in these 3 threads, their credibility is ZERO, in my opinion. Believing this nonsense would be like taking investment advice from a drunk homeless guy in an alley, that you've never met before.

I have a prediction: Apple will release new Mac Minis on March 3, 2009.
I have a prediction: Apple won't release new Mac Minis on March 3, 2009.

One of the above statements is "confirmed"!

I don't know about this particular poster but actually I think it could give the person A LOT of credibility. No one from Apple really wants to be caught leaking information so it's a smart idea to keep it brief and ambiguous.

I have nearly 14,000 posts here, :)o) if I posted that would it make it more credible? No, because I don't work for Apple. Post count doesn't mean squat with this kind of thing.

So your saying the QCX would be the Intel i7 920 2.66 Quad Cores and the 8CX would be the Intel Xeon i7 E5520?

MB418LL/A - IMAC 24" 2.66/4GB/640/SD/MSE/KB-USA

so the low end 24 has 640g and 4g RAM:D
by the way what does the USA bit mean?
ps. just out my bed and very excited/confused!

KB-USA -> Keyboard-United States Of America.

Essentially an iMac with an english keyboard.

Looking at the specs, I'm ready to bet a lot of people will shoot a loud "WTF" tomorrow. Some of these specs are horrible. I don't know how the Nehalem Mac Pro will perform, but the processor has a lesser clock rate then the last generation. Nothing new on the iMac front, with probably 9400m and 9600 GT cards, a Mini with no new processor...
I guess since the Gainestowns are more expensive than Harpertowns, Apple decided to cut back on the clock speed. 2.67 GHz quad-core? 2.27 GHz octo-core? Yeah… but then again they have a lot of RAM.

Actually, the Core i7 explanation posted in this thread seems the most reasonable (also explains iMac CPUs). That or Apple's doubling core counts to 8 and 16.
