Either you re-evalutate your use of the iPhone, get an Android phone, or continue to miss notifications. Dropping everything to display your lock screen so you don't miss meetings is something you have the time to spend 30 seconds on.

But he doesn't want to check notifications when he walks away from his phone. It's really just a veiled excuse to complain about the lack of LED notification system in the iPhone. Now that the camera light notification option has been shown to him, we'll see what excuse he comes up with next.
The camera flash option isn't the same thing though.
Develop a habit of checking your phone often if work, business or family demands it.

As a Galaxy Note 3 user.... Switching to android for the led lights is simply not worth it. I use my phone in a similar manner as you but ultimately the LEDs do drain battery when I constantly have 6 different LED colors in rotation going off.

Developing a better habit for phone use will save you on battery and peace of mind.
A very small LED that is not bright at all would be very low power in usage and would likely not really have a noticeable impact on battery life even if it was in use often.

I think with any device there's going to be some level of self-management and responsibility with so many notifications coming at once. We can only expect it to manage so much of our lives without some interaction and diligence.

Not sure if this has been said yet, but there's a case out there that utilizes the led flash to light up itself whenever there is a notification. Perhaps that is worth looking into. I miss having a notification light too, and I honestly find it strange Apple doesn't implement one.

Seriously? Turning on the iPhones screen for 2 seconds probably uses more power than a blinking LED uses over 24 hours

It is almost 2016, and Apple still refuses to make an LED Notification for the iPhone, just unbelievable at this point.

Blackberry started it, with their cool little red flasher for missed calls, e-mails, and texts, and of course Android has had it forever.

Please stop making excuses for Apple, this should be on the iPhone already. Here's hoping the iPhone 7 has the Notification light. And also hoping that iOS 10 gets the major overhaul it desperately needs. Right now iOS 9 feels like a dated OS from like 2008.

Since Apple doesn't seem to want to add a notification LED... hopefully the iPhone 7 delivers with the rumored AMOLED display...
A great idea for an app/jailbreak tweak would be one that flashes a narrow strip or dot at the top of screen while it's off to indicate a notification. Since it would be an AMOLED display it would burn hardly any battery to do so. Kinda like the "edge lighting" on the GS6 edge.

Any more unbelievable than the iPhone 6s base storage at a ridiculous 16GB?! This is Apple we are talking about here… they do whatever they want because they can get away with it.

If enough people stop buying iPhones and complain about this stuff they pull then we will see some serious changes. Just like the screen size. I'm sure the 5.5" "plus" phones exist because Apple figured out they were losing sales.

Stock android already has this. If you have notifications, the screen with dimly wake in black and white to show notifications.

This is certainly true, but the iPhone has been behind on notifications since day one.

If I have 20 notifications on my lock screen and I swipe across to open one of them, they all disappear from the home screen. So goofy.

They are all still there in the Notification Center.

Let's not. I don't want an LED. I bought an iPhone knowing there wasn't one and that was perfect for me.
Folks who want an LED can go get a BlackBerry. They need the sales.

What would be the issue with there being one and those who aren't interested in it simply not using it?

I don't want Apple spending time developing that. There are other things I would want instead, such as fonts and themes.
An LED reminds me too much of BlackBerry. A time I'd like to forget.
Seems like different teams would work on those fairly different features.

Someone could similarly say that fonts and themes are just for fun things that are not necessary or all that useful and would remind them of Android so Apple shouldn't waste their time on them and no one should have the option of having them.

They could. And I would disagree.

See, I bought the phone knowing there wasn't an LED. Had I wanted an LED I would have opted against it.

I also bought the phone knowing there was no support for fonts and themes. But if I want them badly enough I could jailbreak.

The post I answered made the case that the LED was a missing necessary feature in 2015 and that those not wanting it were making excuses for Apple. I'm pointing out I'm not making an excuse, I simply don't want it. And as I said, if I'd wanted it, I would have bought one of those phones that have it.

Not wanting something is not the same thing as making an excuse. I genuinely don't want it.

Very simple solution, there'd be an option in the Settings to turn it off. Just because you wouldn't use it, doesn't mean a vast majority wouldn't.

I think a Notification light type thing is a crucial feature to have in a smartphone. When at work, the phone is sitting on my desk, I can just glance at it, to see if it's flashing, for a missed call, text, it E-mail, if it is I'll pick it up and check those. And if not flashing then I won't waste my time touching the phone at the moment, and will continue to work.

Not wanting it is one thing, but simply being against it being there is somewhat different.

Personally, I don't want it and I'm against it. I would hate it on my iPhone.
I still don't understand how. If you aren't using it, how would it change anything compared to what you have now?

For example, I might not care at all for fonts and themes and might even just think they are beyond pointless, but I would have no issue for the option to change them to be present so that those who might care for one reason or about could (since in the end it doesn't change anything for me).

The LED is a complete waste on my Note 4. I don't look at it. It is also a complete waste on my work issued SGS5. I don't look at it. Therefore I don't find it critical or crucial. I rely on the audible tone and/or vibration. In the absence of those, I look at my notification screen.

At work we have a strict no phone during meetings policy. Otherwise it's on my desk and unnecessary.

My lifestyle is not so precise and my time not so limited that I can't lift my phone, open it via Touch ID, and glance at notifications. It takes three to four seconds.

If my time were ever so tightly used that I could not spare three seconds to look at a screen, I would be making major changes in my life. One of which would be another phone. But like I said, I don't even look at the LED on the phones I've got that have it. And I haven't missed one single important email or message, or failed to return a call because of it.

I believe that throughout, I've been saying what I don't like and what I don't support.

I don't want my iPhone to have an LED. I don't want it in the OS, I don't want it in the hardware. It's a useless feature to me. I would prefer that level of effort used in something else. Whatever team does it, use those development hours in something else. That's how I feel about my iPhone. You feel different. OK. So be it.

If it's such a needed feature, why would anyone buy a device that doesn't have it and then lobby for its implementation?

Probably because as a package it's a better choice for them than something else in the market, but it doesn't mean it couldn't be better and that people shouldn't talk about it. On the other hand it's hard to see why people would be against something that wouldn't affect them in any way (instead of the simpler and better alternative of just not caring about it).
