Frankly speaking: 10.15.6 solved s*h*i*t!

MBP 2018 i7 2,6 Ghz 32GB, 560x 4GB
External Monitor via USB-C connected to Macbook
Belkin Docking Station connected via USB-C to Macbook
10.15.4: live was good and I never restarted my Laptop for weeks (uptimes of 4-5 weeks were the normal)
10.15.5 introduced: every other day watchdog Kernel Panics as many of you are getting
10.15.6: combo update installed, no more Kernel Panic (Live is good!! Yes? Reallly? No!)
10.15.6: introduced: spinning wheel of death every other day

I tried all the things that many people suggested here, SMC reset, Amphetamine, disable sleep, disable batter health etc.

I am at a point to through out my 4000EURO Macbook Pro. This is no longer a Pro, but a broken machine which is the most unreliable device I had for the past 10 Years.

I really don't get it why Apple is not investing time and effort into fixing this. This is extremly frustrating and will make me think twice weather to get another Apple Macbook next Year or to go for a Dell or Lenovo with Windows. At this point Windows 10 seems to be much more reliable than Apple.

Why do you think they are not working on this?
Windows looks really reliable especially when 2004 update crash your printer or something different.
It looks like both companies don't make enough trials before release.

I think I have the same issue. Video loop does not crash it... I think I have crashes, now... when the mac goes to sleep.

panic(cpu 12 caller 0xffffff7f9b7a1ad5): userspace watchdog timeout (google search got me to this forum)

MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019)

AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 4 GB
Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

I have a direct 32" plug in displaport ASUS 32" 4K monitor, but have had the crash with jjust the laptop also.

I'm getting this error since I updated my MiniLate2012 to 10.15.6 everytime a Windows10 VM is running in VMware Fusion 11.5. The Mini is headless with an HDMI dongle. Sleep and other stuff are disabled.
After some time the system is doing a self initiated restart. Was searching since one week now for the root cause.
Damn...

Ok I did a full clean reinstall (without migration assistant), it seems to have fixed my problems.
Maybe all those problems have something to do with migrating systems from ages?
How do you do that? Migration assistant = updating from within System Preferences/Software Update, right? "Full, clean install" = ?
And when you are talking about a "full clean reinstall", is there a way to get back your settings and your data from a backup, or does one have to do all that manually?

I reinstalled every manually, copied all my files and setting to an external hard drive, do a full install (with a usb drive installer, wiping the drive, etc) and copied back all my files, some non Apple app preferences and so on.
It's a hassle but now I'm 100% sure I don't have a very old file on my system or libraries.
And… everything seems to works as normal.

fresh Catalina 10.15.6 install.

issue still there. crashes at some stage of iMac being left unused.
I do use external monitors and a good few non apple apps.

You are running VMware. Thats, in my case, the root cause. I switched temporarily to Parallels with the same VM and running stable since over 24 hours now.

I have the same problem.
The Vmware fusion 11.5.5 has being running on 2018 Macmini very fine until I upgraded to Catalina 10.15.6.
It crashed once a day generally. Sometimes it crashes twice or more!

I found there is a fix that could be helpful.

vmware kext files scan script:

and the python should help you to scan those related legacy vmware kext files, remove them and wait for one day to see if it works.
I removed vmware, cleaned the vmware kext files, and reinstall vmware.
Have to observe for a day.

Guess I'll throw my datapoint in. Pretty much every morning my MBP 2016 is off completely and I get this report below. Fairly certain it started with 10.15.6.

Damn...

Can confirm. 10.15.6 w/ VMWare and a Windows10 VM is continuously crashing my 2012 mini.
I have 3 other debian vm's running no problem, but if I leave the Win10 VM running it will eventually kernel panic with the same dump others have been posting here.

Really is a sad state of affairs. This thread, and others like it on Apple communities, have been active for almost half a year. There seems still to be no resolve in sight. While windows has plenty of issues I'm not sure i remember when an issue has been outstanding for half a year. For my particular issues with Catalina and external monitor problems its now been 13 months waiting for a reliable OS to address the issues. I've stayed put on 10.15.1 after apples recommendation to solve wa to return to High Sierra give that the external monitor issues for myself started with the supplementary update to 10.14.6. Yes it was worked with Apple and supposedly fixed in Catalina. I upgraded once and found 4 other broken issues with external monitors with Catalina and ceased upgrading since then as I have manual work around for things that used to work. Sadly I'm not convinced that wasting my time to return to High Sierra would fix anything as the firware would remain at Catalina levels and there are threads in the Apple Communities where rolling back does not improve the situation and the only item it can be put down to is thee firmware updates. Sadly there is no way to roll these back to the version that comes with the OS so my answer for over a year is to simply not upgrade.

At this point Windows 10 seems to be much more reliable than Apple.

so... why don’t you just revert to your known-stable configuration?

2019 15" mbp running 10.15.6. Unplugged it from the power adapter and opened the lid. When I tried to move the cursor around the screen, the cursor was jittery and after about 10 secs, screen went blank and heard the fans spinning at full blast and bam! rebooted by itself. Jesus, quality control on macos these years is worse than w10. I never experienced system crashes on wake from sleep on w10. I've experienced a quite a few on macos since catalina. macos quality control is definitely not what it used to be.

I was finally able to resolve.

Steps
> Download linux ISO
> Flash to USB
> Overwrite MacOS
> Never look back

Jobs is dead, time to stop pretending like he's not. Maybe I'll come back around when Cook is dead.

I wonder how many people experiencing this issue are using something like LuLu, BlockBlock, or Little Snitch?

I block most outbound traffic to Apple that I don't explicitly allow.

I'm using Little Snitch. I could try disabling it completely and see if it helps. Considering I'm coming to my Mac every morning and it's off, should be pretty quick to see if it helps.

For me, anything after 10.15.4 leads to panics. The kernel panics happen the same time every day - around 12 PM. I am on a 2018 Mac mini connected to an eGPU. I have even tried wiping and just running stock software, same issue. The only thing I haven't done is disconnect from the eGPU and just use an external monitor connected via HDMI. When it panics, The Mac mini will just freeze and then hard restart. After I updated to 10.15.6 I was getting different errors from the panic. For now I am back on 10.15.4.

Well just came to my Mac tonight (6:30pm CDT) and Little Snitch crashed at 5:22pm. So seems like Little Snitch may be a culprit like I previously thought.

Looking at Console crash reports, Little Snitch has been crashing almost every day. I submitted a support request to Obdev and I'll see what they say.

I had exactly same problem, and after excluding the root folder of Google File Stream, the problem resolved.
My MBP 2014 and new MBP 2019 also had same problem, so I strongly expect that the problem is closely related to the Google File Stream and MacOS Catalina.

Doesn't explain this:

Brand new Mac Mini, fresh install of 10.15.4 (19E266). Restarted the thing twice so far and on each one of them I got the kernel panic. The behaviours is that it stays a while on a "black screen".

The panic looks similar to everyone elses. This is pretty ridiculous, there's nothing on the machine as I just unpacked it and installed the OS update.

But maybe that particular ”watchdog timeout” has been resolved since then in a Catalina point update. 🤷‍♂️
