it feels like I'm getting there, inch by inch - keeping this MacPro 4,1 alive and well :D
a new issue I encountered today is FaceTime video with my isight won't work - FaceTime audio does. Though other apps using my isight such as Photo Booth, Skype, Lync work fine - some more troubleshooting to be had. always something ;)

I agree, fingers crossed the gold build resolves these issues.
btw...if you're using VirtualBox, that could be related to your iSight problems (seems some of the kexts they install are causing some issues).

This was discussed over on the unsupported Macs thread - https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/macos-10-12-sierra-unsupported-macs-thread.1977128/page-127

hmmm ... I don't run VirtualBox, but do run VMWare Fusion (currently Fusion Pro 8.5). Wonder if Fusion is causing the same issue.
I updated to 10.12.1 beta 2 - but still the same issue.
I had just finished rebuilding the Mac Pro - don't feel like starting it all again :(
Will keep tabs on the other thread - maybe VMWare brings out an update to fix it, if it is the cause.

UPDATE:
Just did a fresh 10.12 install (without iCloud sign-on) on a spare external SSD.
Tested the isight via FaceTime - didn't work
Tested via Photo Booth - video worked fine
I followed the steps from the above posts for installing CAT, rebooting, then signing into iCloud, Apple Watch didn't unlock.
So I've reverted back to my 10.12.1 beta 2 install ...

Hello guys, hope someone can help me.

I have a MBP 15" 2.53Ghz mid 2009 with SSD and RAM upgrade. I bought a BT GMYLE dongle. I would like to know if I can upgrade the internal bt/wifi card. Just to let you know that in my case the card is under the clutch cover and Sierra is installed and working fine.

Same question:

I have 13 inch late 2008 aluminium macbook with 2.4GHz Core2duo processor. What are my options?
I've found this 2-in-1 wifi+bluetooth card on ebay that is indicated to be Mac Os compatible.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/150Mbps-USB...469492?hash=item25c09041f4:g:-G4AAOSwbsBXkcml

Do you think this will work to get all the new features to work on my old machine? I've installed Sierra on it, as well as installed 6gb ram and 256gb ssd. So, it's still a strong machine for me, but I really want to be able to use airplay, continuty, hand off, newly introduced in sierra same buffer for all devices.

Since my model has the bluetooth and wifi adaptors build in the hindge of the screen, I think I can not repace it to the one found in the later models. Am i right?

Nope, no reports of VMWare causing the issue - it's VBox that has an issue with the kexts they install clobbering the iSight.
[doublepost=1475149902][/doublepost]@Shaka80, @axd1152 - I know we touched a bit on hardware (as it's related to the use of CAT), but specifically asking about hardware replacements for your unsupported macs really should be in the thread that's dedicated for that.
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/macos-10-12-sierra-unsupported-macs-thread.1977128/
(and, btw - if you search for your systems over on ifixit, you'll find the replacement guide for your airport card, so you can see how difficult it is to replace as well as what the replacement card should look like).
I'd recommend you try searching on ifixit first.

@fischersd Thank you for your reply, thing is that I already checked on fixit. I just wanted to know if it is possible to replace the bt/wifi card with another one to make CAT working. :)

Haven't updated any of my systems to the 10.12.1 beta (yet), but the public release seems fine. Just use the beta version of CAT - I just use the shell script and use the force option to make it do its work. (they recommend you uninstall CAT prior to the upgrade).

Thank you for your reply. But, I have already seen ifixed guide on replacing the adaptor before posting. And as I've found out here https://github.com/dokterdok/Continuity-Activation-Tool/ the compatibility chart says that you can replace the apator in the 15 inch model for 2008 year, which as I understand indirectly implies that no hardware replacement can be found for the 13 inch model. I seem not to be able to find any info on replacing adaptop for 13 inch model for newer one. That is why I wanted to know if there is any way around this using usb dongle.

I am aware of the thread you are refering to, but that thread is more specific for Sierra, and has nothing to do with activation of bluetooth 4.0 le features which were available in earlier versions of OS's. But I will still try asking there if u insist.

installed 10.12.1 beta 3 - Apple Watch unlock has worked successfully each time now
I registered a bug with apple re: isight and they have asked for more info

but now with 10.12.1 beta 3 and CAT installed, all continuity functions and Apple Watch unlock are 100% working.
very happy - the Mac Pro 4,1 continues to live on :D

I Needed to remove CAT. After "uninstalled" with the CAT app, restarted, but the bluetooth is not working (not found). Tried to reinstall with the "uninstall with recovery", but still no go. Wi Fi is ok, BTW. Any advice?

Thanks

Hi, I have sierra installed on my 2008 macbok aluminium 5.1. Yesterday, I tried intalling CAT. After the install finished, the prompt asked if I wanted to check CAT installation on every boot. I chose Yes. After that macbook restarted, and froze at apple logo screen. Could not do anything to fix it. Burning the macox el capitan image to a flash drive right now from my windows pc to restore from time machine backup after that. What have I done wrong during my installation of CAT?
