Um...

http://www.compusa.com/products/pro...3&product_code=339938&Pn=MacBook_Pro_Notebook

Looks like for the mid-range MBP, CompUSA has NONE available for shipping through purchases made on the website. Only local pickup is available. I checked around Chicago, and 2 of the stores also have none.

One of the other MBPs says 2-4 weeks shipping time for online orders, and only local pickup, with at least 1 store sold out...

Hmm...

To me, this holds some mild interest. Seeing that CompUSA has been the big US non-Apple Store reseller, I would assume that they would most likely be on the top of Apple's list in terms of sending out new shipments of product. For shipping times to be like this, and limited local pick-up available, the only question coming to mind (taking into account various "low supply" reports as well) is if this is due to a greater demand than can be filled, or due to a thinning of current models to make way for the new.

As for the 24hr status on the US online Apple Store... it was the same way with the iMac updates the day before the update. IMO, that's the last place that would ever run out.

well, macbooks have been really really popular... so keep that in mind. maybe all the slowed MBP production is just because demand has been pretty slow for it.

Nobody said that they _know_ the details. In my case, the Apple Reseller just pointed out his experience with that kind of scenario they have right now.
Ok, so i think i have OD'd on Macrumors. Last night i had a dream. I was at my restaurant and one of my customers had a new merom MBP with a black anodized case and air vent holes on the front and sides. I knew it was the new macbook pro. I was so excited so i rushed home to look at Apple.com and there they were, Brand new MMBP's. I couldnt believe my eyes. They were still $1,999. I was thinkin, hey its finally the Tuesday we have all been waiting for. I was so excited. Unfortunately i woke up from this dream and came to the sudden realization that there are no Merom macbook pros available yet. I think i need MAA(mac addicts anonymus). :( This rumor site is gettin into my head. hahah

I Think By Halloween • Historically, Apple Releases New Models In Late October

Well, they're probably right... My local Apple store keeps getting shipments, but they're trickling in now slower than they were. Multiple sources have said that Apple is ramping down production of their current notebook line. Intel has announced they have cut production of Core Duo units and boosted production of Core 2... The update is imminent. The question is do they release in time for the holidays or will Apple try to hold out until MWSF?
I'm thinking it will be in the next two weeks by Halloween. Then they can turn to the Dual Clovertown Mac Pro release in November. :p

I envy you. I wish I had the smarts just to buy sooner. As you said, then you don't mind buying a revision when Santa Rosa comes out.

But I am clearly stuck at this point. I have a last revision 17" PB, with problems and no disk space at this point, but it's chugs along.

I just hope we see an update soon. It's too late, I suspect, for me to upgrade at this point before the revision.

Next week is very likely. Apple will be starting their new financial quarter, MacBook Pro supplies at CompUSA are completely dry with no future orders, the Red iPod Nanos have had their time on the homepage. Next tuesday is the day you guys. I'll have my credit card ready that morning.

I hope you're on spot with this one. It sure _does_ make sense, but there are certainly a lot of factors we are not aware of. We can only hope I guess.

Nah. No need to hope. Look at the date. 10-24-06. Add up the numbers. You get 40. 4 = 2 + 2, as in, 2 Duo. The zero after the four is merely a symbol for "Core", as it looks just like one. Apple tried to be sneaky by reversing the order of the symbols, but I don't think they did a good job. It's pretty darn obvious if you ask me.

If you don't buy this yet, you will come to realize that what I explained is something you could NOTE in a BOOK. Then all doubts shall disappear.

WE know the updates are inevitable, so why do we sweat it out so much? And is the speed increase going to be that great to impact our lives?

...and that is why Kyle is to blame for the terrorist events that occurred on September 11th.

If not the coming tuesday, probably the one after that or the one after that...
At this point, i have decided that i am going to buy a new MBP ONLY when apple updates it! :D

Now I suddenly have NEED for an IntelMac due to new client who needs DV to AVI transfers in Windows. Can borrow an office PC next door for a little while to do the work a night. But could use a MacBook to get it done all the time.

fyi - 3 weeks ago I was in the new apple store in NYC.. and 2 minutes after I walked into the store. they had their 1 millionth customer.. the chick won a new computer along with other goodies.. she was so happy and turned bright red... i was pretty stoked for her..

the store emplyees there can suck my KAK.. a real bunch of wankers... then again.. it is the east coast..

: )

Just went to Fry's in Downer's Grove IL (Chicago), and had an associate look up the stock on the low end and mid range MPBs. 3 in stock. Yes, three. Said they won't be getting any more for at least 2 weeks. But then again, he said that might be due to their otherwise full inventory. Sounds like he didn't have a clue about the replenishement at all, but the computer screen didn't lie.

Further, I glanced at the national inventory list, and noticed a fair amount of single digit numbers at other Fry's locations.

I did manage to pick up an 80g iPod while there, so it was a very good trip I think! (something to keep me busy and entertained so I'm not quite as addicted to this forum, perhaps...)

... like that's gonna work.

Not sure it means anything... I'm on a first-name basis with the manager of the local Apple store. They just got a healthy shipment of MB and MBP systems yesterday and Apple is filling all of their orders for both store stock and CTO systems within 2 to 3 days. This store location seems to move a LOT of systems though. Stores like this one may be a great place for Apple to continue funneling their stock to clear it faster...

Anyway, I hope something happens soon. Nothing against the cause, but that ghastly red nano on the Apple home page needs to go away.

Oh, and as others have said on multiple occasions, the Apple store people don't know anything. Chances are, we know a lot more around here... All the guys at this store know is that the current systems keep flowing in like nothing's changing.

And flowing out as well. ;)
