Well, I have run FCP on my old 15 inch 667 mhz titanium G4...

BUT what I have heard is that FCP 5.1 actually does not RUN.. can not run... will not work on MB...

Can it? or Can't it?

In terms of CPU power, the MB is currently just as good as the MBP.

2.0 vs 2.16 ???

64MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory (2) vs 256MB GDDR3 SDRAM

i guess it is not much of a difference...

OH MAN..

the new MBPsssss better be sweet...

He said CPU power, not GPU power.

And yes, the difference between the 2.0 GHz Core Duo and 2.16 GHz Core Duo is not that big, so his point was valid.

Aperture 1.5 is now supported on every Mac currently being sold by Apple (that includes the Mac Mini). http://www.apple.com/aperture/

FCP (and other pro audio/video applications) are not supported on the MB. Same with Aperture. However, I do believe these programs all run just fine on a MB if you can live with the limited screen space and lesser audio capabilities. In terms of CPU power, the MB is currently just as good as the MBP.

I personally haven't tried running any of the pro apps on an MB as I don't own one.

I didn't express myself very well... But what I was attempting to say all too quickly was that CPU choice being equal, the MB is the same as the MBP, they didn't restrict it in any way. But yeah, that extra 160MHz doesn't do much and isn't worth the money, IMO.

I wasn't factoring GPU or video memory into the equation... Obviously, for those who need a dedicated GPU (and I'm one of them) along with the other hardware features of the MBP, the MB just won't do. For many, the MB is perfect. However, if you want the 256MB video RAM as opposed to 128MB in the MBP, you have to go with the 15" 2.16GHz model or the 17". And I would definitely recommend the 256MB video if you do any serious 3D work or gaming or plan to run any OpenGL anything on a 30" display.

I'm hoping we get NAPA64 in the new MBP (or better yet an earliy Crestline release?) and an updated GPU. The X1600 is pretty weak.... And I'd love to see Apple implement MXM like they did on the 24" iMac (even if they only put it in the 17" MBP) so that buyers can choose a powerful GPU config at the expense of poor battery life or they can choose a more mid-range offering like what's currently available.

Reality is tapping me on the side of the head though and reminding me that we'll probably just get a drop-in of Merom. Possibly some considerations to increase cooling efficeincy and not much of anything else. So, I don't have my hopes set very high.

That's cool. Didn't realize they changed it... Not that it mattered since it worked fine anyway, but now it's officially supported. The Final Cut Studio applications are still unsupported though (not supported on any system with Intel GMA950 graphics).

I haven't really spent too much time on a MacBook's keyboard, but I love the feel of my powerbook's keyboard and I do not think they should change a thing.

I really like my Powerbook's keyboard, but the Macbook keyboard has a sturdier feel to it, and feels more comfortable with a slight space between each keys.

And it will be at least March before we see that spec list. With 802.11n not being finalized yet... Probably should remove the Copyright notice in the mockup too... Some unknowing soul might think the picture was from Apple. :D

Thought I heard a rumor that they were already putting 802.11n in the new iMacs.

BTW -Copyright removed

My 2 cents:

-Core 2 Duo processors is a no-brainer
-802.11n has an excellent chance
-No new enclosures
-No MacBook keyboards
-Possible new latch system
-100 GB HD will move down to the lower end model (15")
-120 GB HD will be standard on the higher end model (15")
-1 GB RAM standard on all MBP models
-Brighter screens
-Possible switch to Nvidia cards

-MacBooks might get lower end Core 2 Duos and 802.11n (but after MBP)
-MacBooks have a 25% chance of getting 1 GB RAM standard
-MacBooks will retain their HD sizes

-Thanks. See you at MWSF 07.

macbookpro0120060109.jpg

blueray, new ventalation , mag latch core 2 duo. mmmmmmmm macbookPRO. now offically PRO status!
Why doesnt Apple make the macbook pros like these with ventilation holes? Seems like a good idea for the heat issue.

nice latch ;)
but where are your speed holes ? :D

Good work on the latch OdduWon, thanks for sharing. :)
You forgot to remove the mechanical clips on either side of the isight though.
And I have to say I'm not feelin' the speed holes.
We'll see who's turns out to be most accurate. :D

BTW: How'd you get your image to show up full size?

You'd have thought at least 256mb X1600s as standard at least.

Still, I'll get the standrad model even with 128mb in the low end, becase 1) I can barely afford it anyway and 2) I 've had an Intel iMac with the X1600, and compared to the GMA950 in this MacBook I'm typing on, it's heaven.

MacBook Chicklet Keys Suck

I personally can't stand the MacBook's keyboard. The keyboard on my PB and the one in the MBP is as good as it gets. Especially with backlighting.
I'm in this camp with Konfabulation. Look and feel like IBM Jr. chicklet keys to me.

is there any thought that the Merom update will actually truly occur by the end of the month. I see lots of speculation here, but does it matter that many 3rd party sellers are seeing drops in inventory and new shipments coming in November? Could this really be it?

Pfft, no way, the MB keyboards feel like something we should have had ages ago. Once I tried it, I realised how cumbersome and clumsy big fat regular keys are. Plus, regular keys press on the screens in laptops, or so I hear.

I'm hoping for MB keyboard with backlighting, but it's not a make or break for me as it probably won't be for anyone else.
