How is the Napa 64 chipset different from the Crestline chipset then?

It's probably architecturally identical to the normal Napa, except it passes 64-bit values around more efficiently. Doesn't have any of the goodies that Santa Rosa/Crestline will be bringing. Crestline may also be focusing on the next iteration of Merom processors.

According to the Estimated Order Date my MacBooks wont still till 27th witch is 1 day shy from a Month since i orderd them ...

Maybe this is the indication that they are doing the same thing they did with MacMinis when they switched them to Core Duo from Single Core

I think the long estimated time to ship is normal especially for BTO. This is to give themselves time incase something goes wrong. Many people have been reporting long build times but get them much eariler.

I can understand that, but i got the email saying it is delayed and it might or it will be shipped by Oct 27th 2006

And when i called them the guy said that if i got an email from them it means that the factory send it 2 me and there is nothing he can do and he said chances are it will not ship before that.

I guess all we haveto do is wait and see what happens.

Not to mention that the MacBook has, all along, been in incredible demand. So even if they weren't ramping up for a new production line, the MB's still often have a few weeks of wait time on BTO because they're flying off the shelves for back to school, early holiday gifts, etc.

Another reason why I don't understand the facination with Core 2 Duo. For all our complaining, Apple can't make Core Duo machines fast enough to keep up with demand, so they don't have a heck of a lot of reason to want to switch right now. MBP might be a different story for us Pro users, but I wouldn't hold my breath on the standard MB.

They aren't loosing any sales by not going to C2D. Well, atleast they can't see it since sales are up so much anyways.

I am an MBP user my self ...

I orderd 3 IMacs for my Business, and 1 MBP and 2 MB on Sep 28th, i got everything shipped to me Other then the 2 MacBooks and that bugging me a lil.

I think if i complain they might give me something for free since i spend close to $10K on my Credit Card.

I went with MacBooks because for what people at my work need them it is more then enough giving them a MBP would be spoiling them 2 much and next thing you know they wont be doing any work.

Long Wait on Macbook orders

The Macbook has han nothing but problems. There is a class action
suit being filed against Apple by MacBook owners. Don't expect anything
new until Apple can resolve all the problems facing all of their notebooks.
Why do you think nothing new has come out. Insiders are saying all these
problems have pushed back all new product launches and not to expect anything new until the current problems are worked out. Apple is not
readying anything new, they are too busy putting out fires. MacBook owners
are complaining that their notebooks have been in repair for as long as a
month and that they still have not gotten them back yet. These are the real
issues why knowone has seen C2D's. These are the cold hard facts.

I've been holding up an order of four 15" MBP's for over two months waiting for the Merom version. My department is going to be using them for the next 3 years, so I'd like them to be capable of 64-bit stuff just in case...

Right now we're all on PowerBook G4's and itching to upgrade...

My Macbook is fine, again as everyone always says those with problems post those without usually don't, I mean a "i've had no problems with my Macbook" thread wouldn't be very interesting now would it? It has been practically perfect except for a screw on the memory compartment which was very tight (so I had to use pliers on the screwdriver to turn it).

facts? my macbook at work runs perfectly fine. the only problem i'd say is that the wrist rest gets dirty too fast, but i should be more wary of washing my hands. that's about it.

Macbook Upgrades

To all those who think MacBooks won't be updated:

Chances are that you are more wrong than right. Even though most people on this thread think the MBP should be changed, while the MB can be kept without a C2D, that is probably a false analysis. There is a reason the article in Apple insider says that MB outsells MBP by 2:1. There is a reason why MB supplies are low (demand is really really high), and there is a BIG reason why apple just gained huge marketshare in portables since this summer-and that reason is the MacBook. The MacBook, it is becoming apparent, is very popular with young people and is Apple's best bet in overcoming the huge disadvantage it has had in the marketplace of computers for sooo long.

I know many here are Pro users because, well....the average person does not have the time/the care to look and post on sites such as these, while hardcore fanatics like you and me check this page frequently and are willing to buy a MBP even for the large amount of money (though I myself as a college kid am getting a MB), the MB customers are largely unrepresented here. So, I know you're saying that Apple doesn't need to update its MB because MBP is more important-well, it's not exactly that important to Apple.

Yes, in my opinion the MB and MBP will get upgraded at the same time-the first will to get apple into the portable market like it's never been before, and the second to appease may hardcore Apple fanatics that are here. It would be a terrible mistake for Apple to not update its MB for a while (not to mention that upgrading it may solve many of the problems that plague the current MB line).

The MacBook is the way Apple will build a strong marketshare in portables-this is becoming very aparrent (read any Analyst's take on Apple (AAPL) right now on Wall Street, and so many will tell you that the MacBook is currently making the Apple stock a buy).

I'm once again in the market for a laptop, after backling and buying a MacBook, then watching as my worst nightmares came to life in the GMA950.

Any improvement to the gpu would be a bonus, but maglatch and a MacBook keyboard would seriously be enough for me, the 1600X is great card. Just hurry up and release already.

I personally can't stand the MacBook's keyboard. The keyboard on my PB and the one in the MBP is as good as it gets. Especially with backlighting.

You can have the "great card" in the MBP today... for EUR500 more!

The way I understand it NAPA 64 is a simply rev of NAPA to give the integrator the extra address space the 64 bit processors could use. There are other minor improvements. One could very likely find the definitive details on one of Intel's web sites.

All the whining aside here, this is really needed in the MBP pro user space.

Is it true that FCP does not run on the MB?

FCP (and other pro audio/video applications) are not supported on the MB. Same with Aperture. However, I do believe these programs all run just fine on a MB if you can live with the limited screen space and lesser audio capabilities. In terms of CPU power, the MB is currently just as good as the MBP.

I personally haven't tried running any of the pro apps on an MB as I don't own one.

I haven't really spent too much time on a MacBook's keyboard, but I love the feel of my powerbook's keyboard and I do not think they should change a thing.
