I wouldn't get your hopes up for a Core 2 Duo MacBook because it isn't happening. Nope, never will.

"Our Q4 results were some of the most profitable in history. Our portables continue to outsell their competition in dramatic fashion -- in fact, the MacBook Pro, our flagship professional model, has sold nearly 1 million to date. We have exciting new developments in our pipeline for 2007. For now, our current lineup of portables, iPods, and desktops complete our Holiday slate for 2006."

nevir said:It *can* be a simple drop-in replacement; However, everyone seems to be forgetting that the current motherboards use the 32-bit (Napa) chipset - if apple wants to really utilize the 64-bitness of the Merom - I'm reasonably certain they're going to want to drop in the Napa-64 chipset (which, by the way, appears to provide better battery life for the overall machine, according to google - the CPU is only part of the equation)...
I can't imagine the two chipsets being much different, but I'd bet there's some logistical issues with swapping out both CPU, chipset, and who knows what else.
OdduWon said:apple could easly sell their curent line up for 12 weeks til MWSF, but it just seems that merom is such a half step that we might just take a bigger one instead. i mean the curent configuration works very well other that the heat. for apple to have included a new battery, ventalation system, keyboard imp, new hd config and more ram, with merom just seems like a lot of work for only a 12 week "competitive" notebook. then santarosa? no way all over again from the ground up? what are we really expecting? apple will not just shove a processor in a chassie that dosent fit. if they did that Mac's would haven no heart. an apple machine is about responding to whats inside. did anyone notice that when core duo was anounced the new logo matched the MBP vents? apple is not dell, they are designers. they will always improve and innovate and not leave the heart out just to give us 10% speed boost and little batery improvements a(if any with the fan running all the time) duo 1 was rushed and ahead of schedule. the next macbook pro will be PRO. it will have heart and be as quick as it is beautiful. it will be complete

That, and the fact that 12 weeks down the road from there they need to get ready for Santa Rosa. It is quite plausible that they are making some incremental changes to the design now to minimise the transition later, because Merom (1) is looking set to be a really short lived CPU.It makes zero sense for Apple to wait till MWSF, they are better off releasing whatever they've got now rather than fight with Vista equipped machines.
OdduWon said:agreedit would help apple to put out core2 now. i think the tv ads are bad for apple enough that they would want to change. they come on after ipod and get a mac all the time. and i always say" yeah best in the world... but not in a mac yet". mac should not have to look at pc and be envious of win boxes.
we came from risc and the mighty power series, apple must stay the better built machine. i doubt they can't do it. theyhave probably already done it (we'll see when shuffle and xserve ship), just seems like a lot of work for shuch a chort life. and for vista...leapord will spank even on duo 1![]()

"Inventory of both Apple's MacBook Pro and MacBook notebooks have run dry at the company's primary European distributor."
apple insider - http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=2142
A friend who has ordered a MBP is now doubting it and is considering cancelling it.
It hasnt shipped yet and can still be cancelled until monday when it is estimated to ship.
Surely if stocks have run dry then someone, somewhere at apple would have said something to customers who are awaiting orders!
