Here, where else?
I only disabled automatic graphics switching in order to force the rMBP to activate the dGPU. The KP happened in the exact moment I clicked the checkbox and disabled the option.

Nevertheless, it was the one and only situation I had a KP on my rMBP. Currently, I have the automatic switching activated again, and I have not experienced another KP.

Ah, I see! It's been 2 weeks since mine crashed now, hopefully I won't experience another one..

10.11.3 seems to have resolved the majority of crashing I've had however I now have a new problem. Today after deciding the issue was fixed I finally got around to using it after being goaded into playing blade and soul.

My Mac is now thermally throttling and got so hot it's warped the keyboard. Called the senior back and just filed an incident report over a possible fire risk; was told to not use the machine until further instructed. Pics attached:

What you're seeing on the keys is not Braille, it's where the keys got so hot they began to melt lol

Damn, that's scary...
Do you think it's safe for me to play some games? When I got it last month, I installed a few and played and I was surprised how cooled the thing was during it.. Not even old my old MBA were I had almost 1k gaming hours it never became that hot, and I used to have it on my lap or on my case(Which I immediately stopped with after some research). It'll be intresting to see what caused it...

Well it's times like this I wish I had more control over it like I built it myself because I wouldn't run into these kinds of problems. Normally I'd disassemble the logic board and re-paste it to bring the temps down but I can't without risking the warranty so here I sit.

You sure wouldn't want the warranty voided at this point.. I really hope the engineers at Apple makes a solid machine next time.

I'm sure they will, I wouldn't put much into what happened to me as I think this is a one off sort of issue caused by the new logic board not being installed properly but we'll see.

Hm, does Simply Mac have a good reputation with switching logic boards?

Possible hardware for the next release release:

March: Skylake, DDR4, Thunderbolt 3 and either a Maxwell chip or an more powerful AMD card

WWDC(June): Same as above but probably with an Polaris GPU

October: Cannon lake with an Polaris or Pascal GPU

Intresting to see if the rumors of an re-design are actually true!

Simplymac sent it to the official Apple depot so Apple replaced my board. If I had to guess given Polaris is shipping for back to school ID expect a June or July release for all the MBPs at the earliest

Wow. What were the fan speeds when it got this hot? Any idea what the temps actually were?

Didn't have an IR gun nearby to read but I'd say the keyboard had to be pushing 60C and the external chassis had to be at least 70C. Fans were running at 100% at the time

But even if some bad thermal paste is causing this issue, shouldn't the rMBP shut itself down if the temperature gets so hot that the keys are beginning to melt?!?

Apparently not which is why I'm still waiting for the incident report to clear, essentially the whole chassis got to near 100C*. Granted melted may be a bit too over dramatic a word but it definitely warped it no question about it

Damn, this looks bad. Hopefully (for others) we could blame bad assembly not a problem within hole mid 15 with dGPU series, since during testing by notebook check they did not have such high temps even with prime and furmark "hell tests".

Yea I'm willing to say mine's probably a one off situation. Good news! Spoke with Apple software engineers and the GPU bug is officially under investigation so it sounds like they were able to duplicate it after all.

Also the safety investigation is also ongoing and I am oh so close to a check/store credit! The main concern I raised was that the current power supply is insufficient to power and charge the unit at full power and could pose a fire or safety risk as evidenced above. We'll see what they say!

That is absolutely awesome to hear! :)
Also a quick question, would you have been able to get to where we are now without this thread, or was it the fact that more people had this issue that encouraged you to get to this point?

And indeed the dGPU model has an insufficient power supply, I think it was stated in a thread a while ago that when the CPU and GPU are both going 100%, it uses more than 85W. Presumably a 95W supply would satisfy this demand, who knows?

If I had ballpark it the total load is probably closer to 125W than 95. Cpu is aprox 47w, GPU is around 50w that right there is over 95, add chipset, pcie hdd and the monitor and it's gotta be pushing 125w total

To put it into perspective similarly equipped Alienware routinely ship with either 180W or 240W bricks

True, I don't see the loss of just throwing in an better power brick already...

Well I don't blame them for wanting to not create an additional one. 85W is sufficient for all the MBPs except the dGPU one and that's a lot of RnD to waste on a sub-unit. That's especially true now given that USB-C is capable of 100W per cable, why bother? My situation is rare enough that if I were Apple I wouldn't redesign it either as the "solution" is literately less than 4 months away.

It's a bit early for an new MagSafe version, but it'd be pretty cool to have a USB-C based one! Hopefully the redesign plugs the holes the 1st generation had.

Well I got my MBP back and boy is it much much better. Plus it helps when the tech reapplying the TIM without it affecting the warranty. While it does go into the 90s briefly once the fans kick on it stays at a very reasonable 75-79C*

Great to hear!

Do you think it's safe to play a load of games on this machine, for etc 2-3 hours a day?

At these levels? Absolutely! Id disable turbo-boost like I did to keep the temps down but this range is very very safe for all parties involved on a 24/7 basis

Great to hear! I've been paranoid since last may that the gaming would damage it... Hopefully I'll snap out of it and enjoy the full performance of my machine!

EDIT: I forgot to ask, what resolution would you recomend playing in? I find 1080p blurry aswell as 1800p and the only resolution that looks ok-ish is 1440x900... Although I've only tested Source based games as Farming Sim just crashes when changing res and Cities Skylines won't list higher than 1440x900....
