The ruffian is in no danger of dying so I would hold off on using your remaining spell. Syllin (@Scepticalscribe) has arcane recovery which will allow her to regain one of her slots after a short rest. Likewise, I can regain my special fighter abilities after a short rest. Unfortunately, clerics need a long overnight rest to regain their slots which means no new spells for you until the next day. The injured people will also regain some hit points after a short rest. As second level characters, we can only regain hit points once / day from a short rest.

@ravenvii, while someone (both Veit and Dalo look pretty mean) is questioning the remaining ruffian, make sure the human we were rescuing is ok and ask him his name. I want to find out if he is the one the knight is looking for.

This is why I asked about out of combat actions. I thought those did not count towards anything, like freebies. Educate me. :)

If you want to heal someone (in and out of combat), you need to use a spell which uses one of your slots.

Outside of combat, people heal naturally through rest.

Heal him?!

Sure, go ahead. That fella just tried to annihilate us for what it's worth...but keep in mind that you'll still lose your spell slot for today, no matter if in or outside of a battle, until you've rested again. So when the other twelve ruffians from behind the corner arrive..

...I'll be gone. :)

Why don't you start the interrogation :).

The XP yield from this battle was 500 XP, so you all get 500 / 6 = 83 XP.

The drunken man groggily gets to his feet and look around. When he sees that the ruffians has been subdued -- most of them in extremely bloody ways -- and sees your concerned face before him, he suddenly bows his thanks.

With an air of fear, he stumbles backwards while bowing his head. Mumbling thanks, he adds 'I don't know no knights, nope, I don't know nothin', thank you, I'm going -- thank you kind folks' in between slurred thanks and other words you don't quite understand.

Too much to hope for :).

Everyone in the original group (@twietee, @Plutonius, @Scepticalscribe, @Moyank24, @Don't panic) (not @Huntn) gets 46 GP (gold pieces) 6 SP (silver pieces) from the starting adventure. Please add it to your character in the character sheet (along with your 83 experience points).

Orders: Loot the dead bodies of armor, weapons, gold, and anything that might be worth anything.

Say to Dalo (@Huntn) and Veit (@twietee) : Please ask your questions of this ruffian. If we are not satisfied with the answers, we will finish the battle with him.

Ask about the Redbrands (how many left, etc.), Tresendar Manor (their base), and Glasstaff (their leader).

Bifur CU Oval.sm4.png Who needs gold? At least I don't at this minute. As I've not been with your group, I'm not privy to all you have discovered or suspect about Redbrands, so I'll let you all ask the appropriate questions. BTW, do you mind if I tag along with you all? It literally seems like ages since I was in the tavern sass'n the lasses, and not sure if that was already agreed to. <mutters> , yes, less brew would be a good thing. As I always say, idle minds sometimes get sloshed... as a reminder to not drink too much. Obviously.... <trailing off> oh never mind. :p

You search the bloody and charred bodies for anything worth taking. You find that each ruffian have a shortsword and are wearing studded leather armor, so there are four shortswords and studded leather armor that are yours for the taking. And you will likely be able to take the fifth from the last remaining alive ruffian if you wanted to.

While you were looting, you asked the ruffian some pointed questions.

"I... I don't know how many there are."

The ruffian points towards the manor on the hill down the road leading out of town. "That's Tresendar Manor."

"I've never seen him, but I hear he got this glass staff, that's why they call him Glasstaff."

No gold ? I wonder how they planned on paying their tavern bill :).

The studded leather is much appreciated though. I'll swap my leather armor for one of the less blood stained studded leather's and I suggest that Portia (@Moyank24) does the same.

BTW, do you mind if I tag along with you all?

Say to Dalo: You are certainly welcome to join us barring any complaints from the other dwarf Veit. Are you two related at all ?

Say to Syllin (@Scepticalscribe) : I wonder if the Redbrand leader in town is a spell caster like you. The glass staff might be magical and something you might be interested in. Let's rest for an hour (short rest) to get back spells and health and then do you still wish to speak to the sister at the shrine in town ?

Bifur CU Oval.sm4.png Veit and I had started to become acquainted in the tavern, before this distraction. I believe we are second cousins and it appears that I am in town due to a related matter that concerns your party. Before the hostilities broke out, he was amiable towards me joining the party. My question about joining was to the group as a whole, but I probably should have waited for his recommendation to pose the question. I believe I could make a meaningful contribution to our joint efforts concerning the matter at hand, other than these Redbrands.

Hmm, Tresendar Manor and a bloke named Glasstaff. Hopefully he's not a gas bag <wink>. I do know about the negative activities of the Redbrands in town and if he could be backing them, I would be agreeable with paying this bloke a visit.

I resent the implication that just because we're both roughly the same size and have long beards are likely to be related.

"I'd say we put him on the pillory - next to the bodies of his fellow ruffians and let the town decide how to handle him.

Or we just cut his throat and get going. What do you say? *nods to ruffian* Any reason why we should keep you alive? Maybe there's a backdoor to Tresendar Manor you forget to tell us about?

Because when we come back from there, bloodthirsty as usual, and there indeed was one you didn't tell us about before - we might cut your throat afterwards anyway.."

Questions: Did I get 83 XP from the fight? Is the assumption that armor is universal fitting, it will fit anyone? And is the official handbook needed to figure out if armor would be an upgrade for your character? I assume that studded leather would not be an upgrade to chainmail which I currently own. I also assume gold can be acquired by selling ruffian loot?

Finally without my character making an official stink, what is the mechanism that determines a participant in a fight, now a member of the party, would not share in the spoils/gold?

That's easy. All gold coins that are, out of free will, not collected by party-members other than Veit the Dwarf are automatically shared with his (deep) pockets. No receits will be handed out.

Please mind that the already forebrooding, bleek future in which said dwarf will depart from this very party because it just doesn't proceed further fast enough and plenty of treasures would have to be shared equally should not influence one's decision to not accept ones share of gold.

Veit does understand your moral conflictions in looting bloody corpses of fellow creatures that walked this earth mere minutes ago but were brutally slain with little to no remorse. Was it self-defense? Why did Huntn still attack, likely with the intention to kill, the last remaining - so called - "Ruffian #5" (which already in it's naming is nothing but the dehumanisation of an other person who likely has a family too) who posed no lethal threat to us any more? Do those actions make you eligible to profit from them? Serious questions, this is not necessarily a game but more of a soul searching experience. Veit does indeed understand that and sympathises greatly with those that do what they believe is adequate to the given context.

Huh? Do we have a disgruntled dwarf on our hands? ;) However, if this is in anyway a serious post....
The first mention of gold was post fight with Claus saying the everyone gets gold but Huntn. I went with the flow assuming there was some game principle, but want to know what that principle is.

I did not attack the last ruffian, I requested a Battle Status Summary, because with the strung out nature of the fight, I was not sure who was left standin, and who was agressive or not. Both the DM and Pluto advised me I didq not have to attack, before I said anything about attacking. So, I assume this is an attempt at humor as when did this party ever shy away from dispatching an agressive foe.

And I will take one part seriously, the stalled out nature of the adventure. Maybe we should have a group discussion if our collectives hearts are still in this? I don't feel this way, heck, I just got here, not said in irritation, but I'm getting the sensation that the adventure is becoming more of an obligation than anything else for some of the participants. My clue is the lack of role playing chit chat and involvement. I have no issue with taking it slow, but it would be best if party participants were engaged in the adventure, casual is fine, but engaged, not showing up just to hit someone and then leave.

If you are dissatisfied with the pace, and for others it's a chore (not an accusation but an observation) then maybe disbanding, or a reset should be considered?

My understanding from reading @ravenvii's post was that the gold distributed was that gold which was distributed from the 'starting adventure'.

In other words, this what we had been given by Sildar Hallwinter, - by way of reward for having rescued him, and as a limited compensation for the contents of our wagons which had been ransacked - and also the small sum that from from the loot we sold shortly after we arrived in Phandalin.

Neither @Huntn - nor his character - were participants in that starting adventure.

1) Everyone got 83 XP from the fight. If you go to the first post in this thread, there is a link to an editable character sheet list. I added Dalo to the list and put down 83 XP. The players are responsible for keeping their own characters up to date on the list.

2) Armor fit is generally based on racial type (i.e. human armor would probably not fit a dwarf). Armor type, cost, etc is in the rules.

Shields Adds 2 to your armor class

Light Armor

Padded 11 + Dex modifier
Leather 11 + Dex modifier
Studded Leather 12 + Dex modifier

Medium Armor
Hide 12 + Dex modifier (max 2)
Chain Shirt 13 + Dex modifier (max 2)
Scale Mail 14 + Dex modifier (max 2)
Breast Plate 14 + Dex modifier (max 2)
Half plate 15 + Dex modifier (max 2)

Heavy Armor
Ring mail 14 (No Dex modifier)
Chain Mail 16 (No Dex modifier, requires 13 Str)
Splint 17 (No Dex modifier, requires 15 Str)
Plate 18 (No Dex modifier, requires 15 Str)

Since Dalo and Veit (@twietee) have a strength of 14, they has the best armor they can get (chain mail). Portia (@Moyank24) can only wear light armor so studded leather is the best she can get. Claus is a Dex based character so he would not want any other armor but studded leather. Syllin (@Scepticalscribe) can not wear armor.

3) We loot all enemies, sell what we can, and divide equally among the party members.
[doublepost=1479393898][/doublepost]
If you are dissatisfied with the pace, and for others it's a chore (not an accusation but an observation) then maybe disbanding, or a reset should be considered?

Veit (@twietee) had stated that he is leaving MacRumors sometime in December so I think he wants us to get moving.

As far as I see it
1) We need to settle what is done with the ruffian we captured.
2) We need to take a short rest to get back spells and hit points. We can do that back in the original inn drinking some ales and discussing our future plans.
3) As listed in the summary above, there are five actions we can do. We have to discuss which one to do.

What was that secret passage about again?

Otherwise I think, after we've rested which is a given imo, we should head to that Mansion. That is if you don't want to re-group before, which I would have zero problems with. You can get that reward etc. pp. afterwards still.

And I'll leave this game at whatever time my daughter pleases to grace the earth - I just won't have enough time to commit by then - and you don't want to wait for my actions for that long either.

Re other actions, I will need to pay a visit to Sister Garaele as I believe that we may need to hear what she has to tell us.

Is @twietee leaving MR, or just this particular corner of it, come December?

Given that the turns are - clearly - taking longer, - for perfectly good RL reasons - a more leisurely game has become the norm.
