From the off: this sounds kinda like a fare-well to DPs zombi-count.

in-game: I'll grab the upper body of tumbling Bart and yell at Velo :"You take the legs and we pull him outta here together!"

Velo, you were right. This looks like something other than the Redbrands. At least Syllin is safe and is not down here.

Portia (@Moyank24), help me hold this evil creature back until we can escape back up the stairs (the stairs out should be nearby). Velo (@Huntn) and Veit (@twietee), help however you can but see if you can get the Count up the stairs and out of here.

Claus advances on the creature with rapier and shield to drive it away from the Count.

Bifur CU Oval.sm4.png We know that Syllin is safe? <Should I take his word for that?>

Bifur CU Oval.sm4.png I was going to toss him over my shoulder and run, but this works too. Just don't slow me up.

At your service!

Portia advances on the creature as well, sword drawn!

That monster is in trouble now :).

We have to play from our character viewpoint. As far as our characters know, Syllin is back with the elf in town having a nice conversation.

@Huntn, could you please amend your post of 2639?

The characters do know that Selling's whereabouts are no longer at the shrine: That is, they know this if Carp returned and delivered his message - as he did - having checked the shrine - in post 6219 (not post 6209).

Now, I will admit that this little detail - er, post - entirely escaped me, as well, initially.........Christmas, and all it entails....

Clarified my post #2639. Carp heads for town in 2609 and returns in 2619. Good?

Perfect, and thanks: I had actually missed the original post myself (distracted at Yule) and attempted to find it, using yours as a sign-posted short-cut when I found out that things had, um, undergone some changes, and then realised, that your numbers weren't giving me the information I sought.

Originally I should of said Carp left for town in 2609, to later return and inform us that you were not to be found at the shrine.

The forums went kaput last night, so I wasn't able to move the game forward. I'll do so tonight. Sorry!

@Plutonius @Moyank24 @Huntn @Scepticalscribe, @twietee;

Until then, as we seem to be barreling towards battle, for the sake of expediency, what do you guys think of giving me your 'default' actions during a battle? Unless something critical happens (a party member is close to dying, something else joins the battle, or something unusual happens), this action would be taken, and I don't have to wait for your responses? This default action can be changed at anytime, and I can give you ~12 hours to override the action.

What do you think? (Thanks @Plutonius for the suggestion!)

My object is getting us and the Count out of here alive.

If the creature decides to fight us, attack to kill it. Otherwise, keep it away from the group until we escape.

In this battle, use shield and rapier for maximum defense since I'm not sure what we are fighting. Attack normally until I see if I can actually hurt it.

Portia (@Moyank24), I recommend that you sneak attack whenever possible :).

If we can't escape without fighting it, I recommend that the clerics join me in hand to hand combat against this creature. It will spread the damage received among us.

Happy New Year! I'm still traveling in the tundra but manage to snag a lobster dinner last night. :)

Hopefully this post does not get me in hot water...
Default actions, hmm I did not know I had those. :p And I thought that the entire purpose this exercise was to be hands on, enjoying the thrill of this adventure? Don't misread me, I'm not upset, but wonder if we are going to read about what we did, there is not much point in continuing.

If we were sitting in a room together, playing, we'd all be engaged with the task at hand. But in this format, imo to succeed, the game will be much more drawn out, and requires a relaxed nature, but still requires enthusiast participation by all members or it becomes more of a chore and I'm afraid that default actions will further distance us from any real engagement. This format, online vs face to face relies heavily on a lot of back and forth. One post a week as a rule is simply not enough, imo for the sake of the game. Besides making attack commands we decide where to go, what to do, and this is ideally decided by group participation and enjoyment is specifically derived from this participation, or hurt by lack of it.

As is, for the big picture our experienced players tell us what to do (not complaining). For my character, I can either heal or attack, but as a healer would I always heal in a fight? I can fall back on my RPG experience and say as a healer class, I would be primarily be healing, but if the first healer threw a heal at our only injured party member, I might be inclined to attack. Besides my witty comments ;), this is virtually the only real interaction, I have in this game.

It seems to me that if we go with automated actions, our game has mostly been reduced to reading a book written by the DM, which if the majority wants this, I'll go along, but I predict it will lead to further disengagement from actively involvement and diminish any fun that might be enjoyed from actual participation.

So here are my automated actions. :p
1. When a party member is wounded, I'll heal them, the DM can decide which heal is best.
2. When someone needs attacking, I'll rely on the judgement of the DM to produce the best movement and attack for the best recipient of such an attack under the circumstances.
3. When Claus* says we should do B, my automated answer is "yes absolutely" and the DM acts on it, (acknowledging somewhat due to necessity).
4. When there is a break in the action and a pub nearby, you'll find me there. ;)

*@plutonius, don't take this as a criticism. You've been the most enthusiastic party member and the most helpful during this adventure, with Veit a close second, while acknowledging you guys have the most experience along with the DM in the game. I see you stepping up constantly in an effort to keep things moving.

Again, l'll emphasize I'm not upset, just observing some reality. If we decide as a group to do automated actions, I'm good with that, while being disappointed. I'll emphasize that as a participant, you get out of it what you put into it. And if you feel this exercise has become a drag, (not singling anyone out) it's best to drop out. I really am missing @Don't panic participation. :(

I don't think ravenvii meant automation as in totally solve a battle on his own and tell us afterwards what happened but rather to speed up (by an incredible margin that'd be) the usual back and forth of rather standart procedure. If something severe of unforseen happens I would think he'll ask us for how to react.

So my idea would be to bring DP/Bart into savety - which should happen theoretically twice as fast since two of us are carrying him - to return afterwards into the battle and help the other two. But Velo could also do it on his own (I guess he's strong enough to carry a human body) and I could try to play the protective turtle from the get go. If that's ok with you, Huntn. I suggest that it'd be me to stay in battle since I'm level 2 already and hence mor useful while carrying a body can be done by a level 1 cleric just as fast.

It's not an automatic action / combat :). You still need to post your orders when it's your turn but the default is there if you are unable to post your orders (i.e. Ravenvii will continue to resolve combat like he has done. The default action will just speed things up if a player doesn't respond).

Let's just see how this battle goes.

Sounds good!

As Claus and Portia approach the monstrosity, Velo and Dalo move to block the creature from approaching the kneeling count.

The creature scuttles away from the party warily. "They don't like to negotiate, I told you, told you, you. I am hungry! Why fight? Feed me and I help you!"

"Then I'll eat them!" cackling fills the air once more, and suddenly lets away to something that you could not quite describe, but instantly recognize as the essence of insanity -- not the concept, but what it means when the mind has gone insane.

You realize that Bartholomeo has gone silent. If you glance back at him, you will realize that the silence is worse -- much worse. A darkness has came across the count's face. Sheer despair and sorrow -- and rage. You suddenly find yourself unsure whether you should be facing the creature, or the count himself.

The cackling grows ever louder.

@Plutonius @Moyank24 @Huntn @twietee how do you respond? Do you engage?

We're finally facing the face-eating Zombi-Count!! Told ya so!

For clarification: are the cleric healing spells all meant regarding physical healing or also regarding damaged mental states?
(What about sexual healing? - askin for a friend..)

You may be correct about the Zombi-Count but I think it's more likely he's being mind controlled.

Attack the creature hoping that Portia (@Moyank24) helps me and that the dwarves keep the Count under control.

The older D&D version had a protection from evil spell which could have been used to prevent the mental attack on the Count. Unfortunately, it looks like it isn't available in this version of the game. At your level, all the healing spells cure physical damage.

Heck yeah, I'll help!
