My p2415q starts when the OS is asking for user and password (Macos login), never before! I don't know what's the reason for that...

Grr, that is a bit annoying. Though Yosemite seems to display the FileVault login at a full resolution. Hopefully it "just works". If not, i can probably blindly enter my password when I reboot!

Got mine yesterday like it so far and am using it at native resolution, Just a question, whats the best way to go about testing for dead pixels and issues with color uniformity?

Ok I have two P2715Q's on their way, they should arrive on Thursday.

I'll be using them with my nMP, D700's, 8-core, 32GB of RAM. I can post on my experience with them once they arrive.

My existing dual-thunderbolts will be going into my office at work, they give us crappy 1080p monitors at the office.

I do have one question for those that already have this monitor: How does it handle Yosemite and booting up into the FileVault decryption screen, where it requests your password?

I read that some 4K monitors don't display anything until the OS is fully booted. Is this the case? I just wonder if I'll be able to see when I enter my password!

I don't think they light up until OS X loads as there are no drivers for DP/4K in the firmware. Apparently the work around is to connect one via HDMI as well as DP and switch that display to HDMI at boot and then switch over to DP at login.

P2415Q dropped price significantly! $530 with $150 GC. Though I'm no longer in the 30 days of price guarantee. Any way to negotiate with Dell to get some refunds? If I return, would they charge me for 15% restocking fee?

If you bought before 12/25, you have extended holiday returns till 1/15. Maybe they'll give you the gift card if you call them up.

I wonder when Dell.ca will also lower their prices on these monitors...because $699 for the 24 inches one is the same price as the 27 inches in the US..

We don't get the same promotions or coupons here unfortunately. If you call you might be able to get a better price - that worked for me back in Nov. But with the disparity in the dollar these day, I can't see them making any change to list prices.

I think I might be able to get 10% off if I call, is that the deal you got?

Wake Issues

Starting to have wake issues out of no where. My display will not wake no matter what if my Mac Pro has shut off the screen for more than a couple minutes. My mac doesnt even go to sleep, just sleeps the displays, and I have to unplug and replug the screen into the back of the mac each and every time I come back. This is becoming a hassle. Any thoughts?

Did you try this suggestion from an earlier thread?

"Just a follow-up on the monitor freeze on wake issue. It was suggested earlier on this thread that turning off the DDC/CI setting in the Dell OSD Menu would prevent this. To test this, I disabled DDC/CI on one of my two monitors and left it on on the other, since on each previous time I'd encountered the problem, it struck both monitors at the same time. Because the freeze issue is very infrequent, I haven't actually experienced the problem for a couple of weeks and had pretty much forgotten about the issue. I just went and woke up my computer and saw that only one of the two monitors had woken up, and it was the one where DDC/CI had been disabled. The one with DDC/CI enabled was frozen (black screen, buttons unresponsive, power switch lit but unresponsive) and it had to be physically unplugged and replugged to wake back up. In the interests of verifying this as the workaround, I'm now turning off DDC/CI on the monitor where it was on and switching it back on on the one where it had been off. If DDC/CI is the problem, then the next time I see the freeze, it should be the other monitor that exhibits it. In the meanwhile, if anyone is seeing the freeze problem, I'd suggest disable DDC/CI to see if it fixes it for you. Conversely, if you have switched it off and still experience the problem, please share that fact here."

Sadly yes, I have had that disabled since I got it. Maybe I will enable it and see if the reverse is true. Strange happenings. Thanks.

Disappointing to hear. With mine arriving Thursday, I'm not sure I'll be able to keep them if these sort of issues happen frequently.

the only problem i have with that setting off, is that every time the display sleeps, once awake again, I need to unplug my computer speakers on the headphone jack and plug them back in. Otherwise it shows as no audio available. Not a big deal but not ideal, either.

Got the P2415Q today with my late 2013 13" rMBP.

Not working very well.

When I plug it in, the monitor defaults to 2560x1440. I'd like it to be simply scaled to 1920x1080, but that option is not there. Even if I option-click "Scaled".

I downloaded SwitchResX, and created a custom resolution of 3840x2160, pressed CMD+S, quit the app and restarted.

I go to Displays and there's still no menu option, option-clicking or not.

what options are available in the switchresx menu after the reboot?

under the OS X display tab, there should be 3 different 1080 options, 1080p, 1080i, and 1920x1080. (for the retina macbook 13". the 1920x1080 is the HiDPi (option or best for display option)

Considering the rMBP 13" late 2013, will it be possible to simultaneously use 2 of those displays at ~52hz using both Thunderbolt ports? Or do I have to use the fallback solution with one display plugged in the HDMI port and therefore sticking at 30hz?

This is going to sound stupid ... but on an nMP does anyone have an issue where the display shows as 2560 x 1440 to windows 8.1 and doesn't let you pick UHD native resolution?

Mac Mini (2014)

So, just hooked up a mac mini 2014 with iris 5100 and apparently the "new" max pixel clock is 425Hz at least for the i5 2.8 chip. This gives you a refresh rate of a little over 48Hz. Just thought those with a mini might want to know, since the retina macbook pro 13" clocks at 450Hz.

As I needed a monitor for my 2013 13" rMBP, I decided to get Dell's new U2515H. And would like to share my experience. I also have a Dell P2415Q and was not happy trying to get it to work with 2013 13" rMBP, 30Hz refresh is too slow and I seem to personally have an issue with 52Hz ( gives me a headache ).

So the U2515H

Pixel pitch .2197 works really well with the panel resolution of 2560x1440 @ 25.4"( very sharp )

AG coating way better than P2415Q ( my opinion ) ( by far best AG coating I've experienced )
side by side the P2415Q seems "dirty"

My unit has excellent uniformity

Display seems "brighter and clearer" than P2415Q after both calibrated to same luminance. Even thought the retina effect is awesome, clarity and better AG coating made me want to use U2515H more than P2415Q @ 2560x1440 resolution.

Great real estate for coding etc, also nice for web work as graphics/images are not retina scaled.

Great for VMs or boot camp as again no scaling is performed for windows or linux.

No issues with waking from sleep, etc.

Not trying to get in to a debate on better monitor, I just have read lots of people trying to get their older hardware that does not fully support 4k to work and wanted them to be aware of this option. I understand there's no real future proofing with this monitor, but it is a viable intermediate option until 4k fully matures and or replacing of machines that fully support 4k.

It's also worth mentioning BenQ and Asus both have similar monitors coming out with a bit smaller panels ( 23.8 AU Optronics AHVA ) and even smaller pixel pitch .2058.
