I suspect a game like this is not going to run well with an integrated GPU no matter what steps you take.

Hmmm. I'm running on the same machine (except with 8 GB RAM) and Windows 7 64-bit and it runs fine at 1280x800, Edge AA, Normal Shadows on, SSAO off, 8x Anisotropic, Depth of Field on, as well as post processing. It's very playable.

I do get the occasional stutter/lag spike after loading a new level/save game. To solve this problem I just wiggle the mouse around for two or three seconds in every direction to give it a chance to load everything into memory and it goes smoothly from there. (But running on 8GB RAM on Windows 7 also means the HD3000 has 1.7 GB of video memory available. Not sure what it is for 4 GB RAM.)

Try this: right click on the desktop and click on "Graphics Properties." This should bring up the Intel HD 3000 menu. It looks black and blue menu. I'm not booted in Boot Camp right now, if it's not "Graphics Properties" it's the other option in the right click menu.

Anyways, in here, on the left click on the 3D Tab, and set everything under here to "Performance." if there is a slider. If it's drop down, set it to off or Application Preference. There's also a slider for power management under one of the tabs to the left. Set that for max power/performance as well.

In addition, make sure you're plugged in when playing.

So I finished this last night and I'm somewhat disappointed. I enjoyed the game for the most part but it is a flawed game.

Namely.....

The ending/s are a real let down of epic proportions.

Also....

I chose to play as stealth, but reality is the game at certain points wants you to play combatively, with sneaking at points utterly fruitless - especially later stages.

However.... on a brighter point the game ran amazing on my 2008 2.8 Mac Pro + GTX 285, with 16X FSAA enabled, Trilinear Filtering and everything else turned on (post processing, SSAO etc.) and I'm glad it supported the 360 controller.

Another one where they'll point to low Mac sales and keep putting off Mac versions... not realizing all their die hard fans on Macs already bought and played the Windows version...

Am I wrong in my thinking that Feral = ALWAYS have to buy again?

I think that's awesome news for Feral! I also think you shouldn't be making assumptions about having to buy it again until those details come out. Since the short time I've been following Feral, I don't think they've made any mention of working on a title so close to the original PC release before. This is big news for the company, more so than their normal "Hey, we're bringing a big name game to the Mac!" It could be done to be a Mac App Store title, as expected, with Feral/Square figuring out how to substitute Steam specific enhancements. It could also be a title that Feral is actually helping Square put out on Steam.

Based strictly on the posts from their team that posts on these forums and my own assumptions from those posts, I don't see Feral as having an anti-Steam view. Instead I see Feral as having a "our costs are this much $ and we wont be able to get a return on our investment costs by participating in Steamplay." I think the answer to our questions will be based on the economics of the arrangement.

I don't care. I will buy it again, hate that rebooting every time. The only problem is (at least for me), that while the PC versions are always localized into Polish, Feral ports aren't. But I will buy it anyway.

If they also made Witcher 2 port, I would literally scream in ecstasy. ;)

I love this game a lot. I think that the second the most game I've played a lot of times along with ME 2. anyway I already finished it three times because I have attempted to complete 100% achievement. but so far I didn't get yet (91%). pacifist achievement is the most difficult one I have dealt with. I found some odd fact. when I crank video setting max out, ironically game runs perfect, very smooth. but when I adjust low or medium whatever you call, performance seems to be down (under directX 11).

by the way, I still have stutter issue. 99% of game play has really no visually demanding. but sudden frame rate drop, or it looks like freezing per second. it annoys seriously. I hope that Eidos could fix this big problem as soon as possible. as you know, there are tons of people who has this issue.

First mission: choose non-lethal + long range to get a good pacifist weapon.

From I have heard, there's one place where flash bang is required. People also recommends playing on easy.

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with this game. I thought the whole point of the augmentations was to make you 'better than' human, but for most of the game I've played, you feel like a wimp. I attacked two guys from behind, but ran out of energy after the first one and got killed.

The controls are IMO a bit awkward, the weapons weedy and the augmentations nothing special (so far, at least). And the AI can be pretty poor. At one point I was standing by a corner and an enemy was around the corner - feet away - furiously shooting into the wall while I was trying to reload. Not the smartest.

Absolutely. The "boss fights" are a case in point. The fact that they exist at all as a fight that has to be won to progress as opposed to someone you can sneak past with hard work, or whatever, is a problem right there.

If you've aggressively sold off your lethal weapons because you want to be a nice person then you're a bit boned.

And yes, the endings are a let down.

It's still a very good game, and very worth playing and while it comes very close to being a "proper" Deus Ex sequel in terms of storyline, in terms of gameplay its still more "Deus-ish" in places.

How will Feral get around the Steamworks requirement? Is there any chance that we might see a Mac/PC cross-version (like for Duke Nukem Forever most recently)?

I have sent them a mail about this and have yet to hear back from them. I believe im right in saying that so far none of their mac ports are on Steam.

Well, for games like Borderlands or Fable, Steam was 'optional'. In other words, you CAN get it there, but it isn't required.

However, with Deus Ex, Steamworks is tightly integrated, so when I bought the game I simply sought out the best deal knowing that it would plug into Steam for me. Same with Dead Island.

I don't begrudge Feral running their business how they choose, charging full price for 5 year old games, or whatever - it is their business and their choice. In some cases I have bought their games, and other cases I have not.

However, when a game is clearly designed for a certain distribution and sharing model (i.e. Steamworks) which would inherently make a Mac port immediately available to PC owners (again, like Duke Nukem) ... it would be a shame if the company makes an active effort to disable this customer-first technology.

But again - we have no idea about what their implementation will look like.

I am able to successfully NOT fight the bosses so far. (without need for reloading).
Update: about to get to a boss you have to fight.

I don't find the control awkward.

The game aims for more realistic take. You are NOT superman or james bond.

The game also rewards non-lethal / stealth approach.

It's not very realistic. You're a cyborg, with artificial arms, legs and more. You SHOULD be better than James Bond (if not Superman). In reality, I ran out of energy after knocking one man to the ground. And I can only sprint for about 3 seconds - that's not "enhanced". That's "severely overweight with asthma". :p Despite the game premise that you're an enhanced character, everything about the game (so far, at least) makes you feel un-fit and sub-average.

(I always try and play a non-lethal, stealthy way if possible, but this specific quest involved roughing up a couple of drug-dealers, so I didn't have much choice).

You're not Superman, and I guess you haven't played very long because your character gets pretty good later in the game.

Taking down the dealers non-lethal is quite easy.

Beat the game without ever using a lethal weapon, never setting off an alarm and actually never shooting anyone or anything else except for the bosses on "give me Deus Ex" difficulty. Overall I quite enjoyed the game, but the ending...damn that ending...lame. I think I only needed 3 or 4 more praxis kits...I think...to complete my augmentations in game.

I am bummed as I thought this might be a good game to play 2x, but I doubt I ever will, so off to my 2 other brothers the disc went.

Oh...and developers complaining about used game sales can kiss my arse. Just about everything in the world has second hand sales, but digital distribution can and most likely will stop that for all software. ugh.... Reading about the Heavy Rain dev complaining about the $$ they didn't get due to used sales just set me off...

Well, it's part of the game. You can put in all your points into weapon and make it into a FPS. Btw, in real life, you'll have to aim and shoot, and few shots = dead.

If you have the dart gun then you can do non-lethal without being chased by the goons. ;)

If you hack everything, even if you have the code, then you should be able to get everything.

What's your FPS? (frames per second)

I'm always rather skeptical of people who say things like this, no offense.

Most of the game: 20-25 fps.

Hengsha: ~18-20 fps.

The lowest point of the game was the exterior of the shipyard...where it probably averaged 13-15 fps. Almost unplayable. But still [irritatingly] playable with the settings I mentioned.
