I don't think anybody has ever said Blizzard makes flawless server launches. That's always been the issue. A Blizzard game without battle.net issues on a launch day is just not a Blizzard game. Of course, this is stinging more since they decided to go with the always online model similar to Starcraft II. Yeah, it's an Auction House protection thing, but yeah, those who had to wait until after work today, to play, really got the worst of it.

Now a good bit of the battle.net site is down.

A friend and I were playing and right as we are about to kill the skeleton king I got booted. He didn't get booted until about 15 min later :(

Thanks for the info. I do have a magic mouse and set it to also right click. I also plugged in an old PC two button mouse and that seems to be easier for me, I just hate the wires. So, I ordered a wireless Razer online.

I'm playing full screen 1024 x 640 on a 2009 Mac Mini (late year). Everything is set to "low" or "off". This will get me going for a while, until I buy an iMac.

I'm also considering getting this game, but wont buy it, if it can be determined, that my MBP cannot run it in a decent manor.

Mid 2010 15" MBP
2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256 MB

I cannot seem to get a result @ www.systemrequirementslab.com running OSX 10.7.4 with either Safari, Chrome or FF (Stalls af "Gathering Information..."), but in bootcamp running Win 7 64 bit, i get a decent score within the recommended requirements - Only minor disadvantage is the GFX.

Any feedback to my wonderings?

Thanks!

Native res, all settings maxed out, vsync ant anti-aliasing turned off.

I don't get how the guys with the 2011 model only can put shadows on medium, bad coding on Blizzards part or Apples drivers?

I have a MBP early 2011 and ı didnt make any changes with it but ı want to play diablo 3.But the problem is ı dont have the demo or beta :(.Somehow ı doesnt allow me to donwload because ı dont have a game before from Blizzard.First question how can ı try the game ? And secondly will it work on my MBP ? Becuase ı want to get in Diablo worl with my friends and ı am the only one in them with MAC

You had a chance to see it for free during the open beta weekend. Anyway, your best chance is to search it on google and read the impressions of people already playing D3 on your machine. I've done a quick search myself and seems there are a big number of results, so you can read a few before you decide.

Register for an account on Blizzard. Click on Diablo III to purchase digital copy. Download will happen, then it will want you to create a battle net ID. My download was short and sweet. After installation, reboot your Mac, then start up Diablo. It took me all of 30 minutes to do this.

I tried it but when ı hit the download button it automaticly takes me to the payment page :(

I have the following:

iMac - 3.1 GHZ i5 - 12GB DDR3, Radeon HD 6970M 1024MB, 10.7.4 Lion

I started out playing D3 in OSX at 1920x1080 with most things on high and I could barely pull 30FPS.

I got fed up and switched over to my Bootcamp partition and installed it in Windows 7. Same exact settings and I'm now getting over 60FPS (although it is still a bit chuggy at times).

I got it working on my early 2006 iMac. 1.86 Core Duo, 128MB Radeon x1800, 2GB RAM.

I set "DisableTrilinearFiltering" and "HardwareClass" from "0" to "1" in the preferences (User/Library/Application Support/Diablo 3) then option-clicked to open the program. It got me in, played the cinematic perfectly, and let me play.

Well, Sorta.

It's playable, but just barely. The graphics are set so low it looks like I'm playing Diablo 2. The game ran at about 1/2 speed in the overworld, and at about 80% of normal speed in the small caves. Slow motion combat! There were a couple glitches with enemy positioning and lag, but SFX worked, the game was stable and I managed to rescue Cain without dying.

What is that?! I have the same problem, to a lesser extent, with StarCraft II. Is it a problem with OS X and OpenGL, or poor optimization of Diablo 3's Mac client?

The StarCraft II OS X vs. Bootcamp performance disparity was narrowed via patches and OS updates, but DirectX still wins hands down.

Fix this, Apple (or Blizzard)! Kinda embarrasing, no? "This software works wonderfully on our awesome computers, provided you don't use our operating system to run it".

Can anyone explain, with certainty, what is behind the requirements?

I have seen plenty of the software in the past that wasn't supposed to work below a certain threshold but it did just fine anyway. Sometimes nobody wants to officially support older hardware or they don't want to bother testing it out and figuring out tweaks and settings for them.

What is the limiter here? Processor speed? RAM? Or is there specific code that earlier video cards/integrated video can't deal with period?

I'm in the process of updating an older iMac and a little money is going a long way into making it more useful, though I think games like this might be out of my reach until I by a newer one.

Speculate and guess if you want, but I imagine someone can shed some light on real specifics here.

i have a 2011 mac mini 2.3 ghz, hd 3000, 8gb ram and i played the demo mostly on low settings and was able to get a smooth framerate. the game still looked pretty damn good, too.

i haven't bought diablo 3 yet, though. been playing max payne 3. probably in a few weeks i'll purchase it.

My wife and I run an audio and video production company. We've got several iMacs, three Airs, and two MacBook pros. As well, a 2007 MacBook white that I'm sire won't be viable. The others though, span the past two generations. We've got a pai of 2010 iMacs (21.5/core i5s) and a pair of 2011 core i5s as well...a 2010 fully loaded 11" Air and two 2011 Airs...fully loaded 11 and 13 inches. I've also got a late 2011 2.5ghz 17" MBP and a 2010 15" (can't remember the specs)

Just curious if anyone knows...can I put my copy of Diablo III on all of my computers or just one? I've been seriously spoiled the last couple of years with Apple--both iOS and OSX. The ability, even with the major OS updates to buy once and use on as many devices as you want. Not sure how the gaming works. In fact, other than my casual flight sim hobby--the last game I really got into was Diablo I--and to a lesser extent DII. Back then, on the PC side, you could only put the game on a single machine.

If, however, I'm able to put it on as many platforms as I'd care to...my thoughts are that I could run a decent set of tests over memorial day weekend. I can also shoot some video of each machine running through the same 'area' if you will. Maybe help a few folks on the forum with their 'Will my machine be capable?' queries.

Anyone know if this is feasible? Also, is there a specific way to get frame rates to show on screen or is there an app/plug-in that'll monitor the performance on its own? Two of my employees also have an older 2009 iMac and a pair of 2009/2010 13" MBPs. I'd enjoy doing this for sure---but I'm not about to spring for a dozen separate licenses obviously. The system I'll most likely play it on is our 2011 27" main rig. But there's no questions about the core i7 machines With bigger graphic cards if I understand this correctly.

I was amazed that it was out of stock almost everywhere! Best Buy (2 stores) WalMart, and a couple others I tried. I finally got one of two copies left at Game Stop:). Pretty excited! I'm 40 years old and I've not been a real, true 'gamer' in a decade and a half. Lol. This game looks amazing at first glance. I've installed it on my 17" 2011 MBP and set up my battle.net acct. not even going to get started tonight. Gotta get up early.

Sorry to ramble on--but again, if anyone knows the install limitations per license, please let me know. I'd be happy to run a gamut of tests on many, if not most of these ,achenes in question.

My guess is you would be able to install it on as many computers as you like, but you would only be able to log in and play on one at any one time. You register the game to your account, but the software on the DVD or download is likely completely generic, and serial-number-free.

This is correct, you can install it as many times as you want but you can only be logged in and playing on one at a time, if you log in on another computer you will be booted from the game on the current computer.

Thanks guys. I'll ready the experiment. Any ideas on how to display or monitor frame rates? Either in game or via third party software?

I believe you hit CMD-R and the framerate shows in the upper left corner.

I'm VERY interested to see how the game runs on your 13" MBA. I've got a loaded 2011 13" as well and I tried the game during the open beta weekend. I had horrible performance (5-10fps) and basically gave up a few minutes after entering town. After reading conflicting reports on the release version I downloaded the game client again. I don't have a guest pass and haven't paid for the full version yet, but the login screen runs WAY better now than it did during the open beta. I'm hopeful that the game will be playable, especially at resolutions above 800x600 which looks terrible.

Thanks for the reply! Are you playing in OSX og Win?

I was able to get a guest pass and load it up on my 2011 MBA 13" (i7, 4gb). The default settings @ full screen 800x600 (default resolution) yielded about 20fps outside of town. The font is unreadable and the game looks absolutely terrible at this resolution. I bumped it up to the 1440x900 and the game looked great, but was getting about 12fps with no enemies on screen. I'm running OSX 10.7.4, I had no other programs running and I restarted the computer before starting up Diablo.

I would say that the game is not enjoyable in the present state...

Diablo 3, same question, same thread, my specs:

I'm using a 2006 Mac Pro 1.1

OS: 10.6.8
2 x 3GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon
2GB DDR2
& my outdated gfx card:
***NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT.

I was donated this gfx card:
***NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT. (i did not have proper power supply connection for this card, so i do not know if it will run on my Mac Pro)

lastly, after speaking with an Apple Care rep, he emailed me a list of compatible gfx cards for this computer. The only one that is compatible for Diablo 3 was the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500.

Any other suggestions? I already bought the game without even considering the gfx card being an issue (since Blizzard has been so Mac friendly in the past), this is turning out to be a bit of a hassle(hoff) now.

Thanks for any feedback, and apologies if more information is needed, help me if you can! Thanks!

Regards,

Nick :apple:

I have an MBA 13, core i5. The game plays very well. Native resolution, in os x, high res textures, no shadows, no anti-aliasing. I'm very impressed with how well it runs tbh. The game is very fun, and the little old HD 3000 doesn't get in the way of that.

Yeah, my 2011 13" MBP 8GB RAM is doing pretty well with it. I'm running High textures, No shadows, Low clutter, LoFX. Not super FPS but its playable and I'm enjoying it.
