My 17" status

17" 2GB 100HD GLOSSY

Ordered: Oct 24, 2006 at 07:25 AM PST
Like everyone else, ship/deliver = Nov 7, 2006 / Nov 13, 2006
educational discount.

i haven't tried to cancel my order... just can't bring myself to take the nonexistant risk.

HOWEVER: My credit card showed a "temporary authorization" yesterday morning (11/1). They haven't taken the money yet... And i guess it'll post as a regular charge when it's actually ready to ship. I'm guessing that the "temp authorization" means that it's just in production. (they don't wanna make a machine if the money's not really there).

All i know is that it needs to show up soon. I'm checking this forum and the order status about once every 15 min. While i love my 1GhZ 1GB TiBook as much as i did the day i got it (3 years 11months ago --to the day), the fan is starting to make a little noise... Yeah, and i really, really , really want my new toy.

good luck, everyone.

As posted on another thread...

I called Mastercard yesterday and they told me that Apple did a pre-authorization/reserve of funds yesterday. So, I would guess that delivery of the 17's are imminent.

What kind of Case?

I'm not sure if this is the right threat, but i'm sure everyone in this thread has the same concern.

I've been looking at cases. I had a BrentHaven for my TiBook. Great case, but not really cool looking, and not that great to use.

However, the new BrentHaven Cases look better and more useable. Right now, i'm up in the air between the regular case and the backpack.

I'd love to hear suggestions and ideas about what people are planning on using or have used in the past.

Have a TiBook and Brenthaven bag now. I've got a Crumpler messenger bag coming for the new 17".

The Brenthaven was the only one I found that really fit the 17" (bought in March, '05). They've changed the design, slightly, since then. It's a very well made case, and it fits perfectly. It's designed specifically for the 17" (and 15.4, I believe). The MBP 17" is just slightly deeper than my PB, but will still literally fit like a glove. This is the bag design, not backpack. It loads from the "top" ("drop" in).

waiting [impatiently] for a call on my 17" stock MBP C2D (on store waiting list).

17" In Production

Called Apple regarding double reserve of funds on my Mastercard (wanted this clarified as 2 x $3,800.00 adds up fast)... I was told that mine is in Production.

Ya babe!

no, it isn't the right thread. here's one. here's another. here is yet another, a big one. another. another. but every thread eventually ends up being about what fancy bag is best, so no sweat i guess. just please, don't spam this thread.

Bank account still showing that I still have funds available. (They did a hold on my money last week and then released it by Friday)
Cancel button leads me to multi select for reason to cancel.

Guess I'm after you guys...
This wait is unbearable...

Incidentally I ordered the glossy stock option...

Same here, still funds, and still that cancelling-page..
At least we're not alone in our misery.. hehe Waiting is no fun!

As I said, I ordered 1:21 PM GMT, so you ordering late is not the cause, and I ordered matte.

Please Apple, just take my money and get this over with! :)

Weren't Apple suppose to start shipping the 17 incher next week? Are they known to ship sooner than estimated or is it that I smell a bit of BS here.

I too call BS on this.
He went to the apple store and selected everything hardware max. I doubt that apple will cary these things on stock normally because the cost of theft is way to high. If anything he ordered it from the store.

So when did you guys place your Order?

Mine was on...
Oct 24, 2006 at 06:05 AM PST

Yesterday at around noon my CreditCard was blocked from the order so I call My Card Comapny then Apple and it seems my card is charged.

I would have gotten it sooner but I had to talk to my boss before I could check the web.

Just ordered a MBP 17" (see my sig.) earlier today from an Apple retailer here in Denmark (they matched the student discount from the Apple Store), and the expected shipping date is the 14th, expected delivery on the 20th. I really hope it gets here sooner than that though.

It's not quite the stock version, as I thought it was worth saving some money on the HD and then getting an external HD instead (I'll mainly use it for video work). Then I'm sure I'll have a fast internal HD as well - even though it seems that the 5400 rpm might be one of the new faster ones.

Looking forward to seeing the first reports on all the questions in the first post.
