Well if it comes on the 17th then I won't be able to take it back home with me, and it'll have to wait until I get back on Sunday. Thanks a lot, Apple.

Just rang up Apple about my order and I got a tracking number from them. It hasn't shipped yet but it's something!

Looks like the European orders are leaving soon!

I just got off the phone with Apple:

Ordered Nov 3, 7:47am
MBPRO 17/2.33 CTO
Z0DR

2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
3GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM-1x2GB,1x1GB
200GB Serial ATA Drive@4200rpm
SuperDrive 8X
17" Widescreen Display
No Modem
BkLit Keyboard/Mac OS
Country Kit

Ships by: Nov 20
Delivers by: Nov 28

According to the woman I spoke with, my order is being, "prepped for shipment, so it should ship on or before the 20th." (Thanks... could ya vague that up for me a little more?) Anyway, I went to order status and I'm no longer allowed to cancel my order, so that's a sign of progress anyways.

So perhaps by the day's end, I'll see a tracking number. I'd rather get it next week anyway, so I have the Thanksgiving holiday to sit on the couch, install stuff, and relax rather than rush to get it ready for its first day at work the next morning!

It's shipping to Orlando, FL area so it definitely is going to about the furthest away point on the continent from Anchorage. I got standard shipping, hopefully that doesn't mean "dog-pulled-sled" from AK!

I think after the initial batches, where the heaviest concentration of early adopter orders are, the orders should catch up pretty quickly. I'm guessing by the time I ordered, there were far fewer per day than the 4-5 days after the initial announcement.

FedEx slow updates... one man's experiences...

Before people get their undies in a bunch... Be aware that FedEx may not update the system as quickly as you'd like.

Take this guy's (15" C2D MBP?) experience as an example.

In essence...

On Wednesday, November 8th, his laptop was picked up/left origin (Shanghai CN) at 7:36 PM, but had the standard shipping exception "Package received after FedEx cutoff".

There was no FedEx status change until Friday, November 10th at 7:30 AM, when the tracking displayed the Anchorage stop and he could see that it was a local truck for delivery, resulting in the following comment: "Wow, that thing moves fast. Shanghai to Louisville in 30 minutes. :)"

Since I just finally got my shipping notification myself, there's a chance that it could arrive here in Minneapolis on Thursday (or Friday).

(For those keeping score, 17" C2D MBP, custom (3GB, 160 GB), matte, with modem purchased through ADC ordered on October 24th at 6:44 PST.)

I'm glad to hear our friends on the other side of the Atlantic are seeing their MBP's starting to ship as well. I'm looking forward to putting the new machine through its paces. I am still a PC guy, and will likely never fully be assimilated, but I will like digging into OSX more, and there are some applications I do like better than the PC equivalants.

exactly

been saying this for a while now...
but never underestimate a "dateless wonder's" ability and desire to whine about things that are going well... anybody here actually look or sound like "comicbook-guy" from the simpsons?

and an update:
both flights left on time, and are happily over the pacific.

Flight: (FX) FedEx 90
Date: Nov 14, 2006
En Route On Time
Estimated Runway Arrival at 12:00 PM Flight Events Timeline
Duration: 7h 55m

hell, 90 is 15 minutes early.

while it is speculation that our bundles of joy are on one of these two storks, it's a pretty safe bet. in about 4.5 hours, the planes will land in anchorage.

we probably won't see fedex updates for several hours after that... by which time our packages will have left anchorage.

FedEx doesn't register the flight plan with the FAA until they're ready to go...
that way they can optomize what goes where and when.

i'll start posting flights out of anchorage when they show up with the faa.

I think this might be where isnoop comes in handy - I imagine it might simply be a problem of the fedex webpage not updating often enough, even though the tracking data is there in the system.

for instance: fedex tells me the most recent is "left origin" - isnoop tells me "left ramp".

maybe i'm wrong, but i can imagine myself being right on this one ;)

Mine shipped...

At 8:21pm Shanghai time -- they made it, barely. So, who knows when I'll get it but supposedly it's on its way.

So, I guess the custom 17s are shipping to the US now!

(Though I ordered mine within an hour or two of the announcement)
