Update

Just spoke to customer service (UK), and they reckoned it was going to ship today. Well, she said "that's what it says on my system", but my online order status says the 14th too, and I reckon they are feeding from the same source.

She also said she would split my order which might make it faster (I ordered a neoprene sleeve with it, and said I was worried that might hold the MBP up), and would try to prioritise my delivery (although I think that's just placebo talk).

Still expecting the 16th as a ship date - any sooner will be a bonus.

I'm in Australia. Was initially expecting shipment on the 7th, and then delayed to at latest today. But no sign of shipping, and no notification of further delay, and the day is over here.

I gave Apple the benefit of the doubt on the first delay, but a second delay would not be a good look.

I am waiting for mine to ship in UK, but no signs yet at 11AM, i doubt it will come!

Although i cant cancel, my credit card has not been charged, i think 16th will be about right!

Status Page...

I got the 2 emails (delayed till the 14th and then the 16th). However, the Status page still says shipping by the 7th and delivery by the 15th  . I guess I'll have to wait next week anyway.

possible info for those of us who shipped yesterday to the US

ok, having looked at a bunch of airport info...

there are 2 fedex flights to anchorage today.
There are 2 flights that leave very close to eachother.
one is flight 24 and the other is flight 90.

Flight: (FX) FedEx 24
Date: Nov 14, 2006
Status: Scheduled On Time
Duration: 7h 54m Extended Details

Departure
Airport: (PVG) Pu Dong Airport
Scheduled: Tue - Nov 14, 2006 08:49 PM (runway)

FLIGHT 90:

Track Flight Status Results
Flight: (FX) FedEx 90
Date: Nov 14, 2006
Status: Scheduled On Time
Duration: 7h 55m Extended Details

Departure
Airport: (PVG) Pu Dong Airport
Scheduled: Tue - Nov 14, 2006 09:19 PM (runway)

Arrival
Airport: (ANC) Anchorage International Airport
Scheduled: Tue - Nov 14, 2006 11:43 AM (runway)

SO, both flights get in around noon today in anchorage... which is late afternoon for those of us on the east coast. (that'll prolly be the next time fedex updates the tracking info.) which means that we could start getting our babys tomorrow.

I don't think the "Package received after FedEx cutoff " means anything here. they're prolly being loaded onto a plane that leaves in the next couple of hours right NOW.

You know after all is said and done. For majority of the people who ordered the standard 5 day shipping. The 17" MBP are actually coming 1 or 2 days after the original receive date.

I get the impression that there has been some serious miscalculations at the Apple plant where our 17" models are being built.

I had been told that it would ship today, Tuesday 14th Nov. and now I have been bumped another few days to the 16th. Why don't they just be honest and say they have f***ed up? Someone suggested before that this delay carry on may actually be a spoon fed variation of serious delay in which it could be a long drawn out process. I see no evidence to deflate this claim.

if you're in the US, there is an option to deliver on saturday,
but that hasn't been paid for. It's really pricy.
So, no, your package won't be delivered on saturday.

but, if you got a shipment notice yesterday, like most of us, it'll prolly come on thursday or friday.

well, they are shipping now.
and there have been a number of reasonable rumors around.
most likely being that a supplier of a part had some problem.
there is obviously a problem in the supply chain. when it's gonna be fixed and what that means to production is hard to say.

apple is just one step behind us in the supply chain. when they get screwed by a supplier given an expected shipment date, they're in exactly the same boat as us. They can get on the phone and get someone who actually knows something, but really, even if they get the ceo of their supplier on the phone, he'll likely know as much as the people we talk to when we call the 800 number.

they're not global conspiracy to delay you from getting your mac. apple wants these things shipped and the money in their account even more than you do.

It's not a miscalculation, it's a variable unknown. And like all of us who work in the real world (or kinda sorta in my case), we understand that S***happens.

whinging about a couple of days in shipping delays (i mean come on, they don't exist, and then 3-4 days later, they're at our door steps having come from 11 time zones away... that's impressive as hell) won't get them here any sooner.

and frankly, when a company is ambitious to release things it hasn't stock piled, there's risk in that. mostly the risk of us babys whining until the boxes come.

in general, i've found apple to have great customer service. when something goes wrong, compare what happens with apple care to what happens at dell... shipping it back for a fix isn't that bad.

and calling dell for 5 hours to talk to some guy in india just so he can tell you to reboot your computer about 30 times isn't a better option.

Still no euro/rest of the world-orders shipping?
Is that standard practice from Apple, shipping US orders first, even if they claim in that mail I got that they process orders by when they were recieved..?
It really sucks that people that ordered FOUR days after me (rxse7en) got their machine shipped before me.

does it say "picked up" or "left origin" yet?
you can usually start counting from then.
if that says today around noon, it's prolly already on a plane with ours.
if it doesn't, it'll prolly go out tomorrow this time.

and then you'll be a day behind us. and likely it'll show up on friday.

I just got it now. So I think I MIGHT get it friday if i'm really lucky but most likely monday.

yeah, first come, first served is a lie... it always is.

they do their best to bundle the shipments. so, you can kinda say it's first come first served by shipping bundle. and bundles are by shipper and first stop to delivery.

for example, all us in the US are likely having them ship through anchorage. there are 2 fedex flights leaving 30 min apart... (the extra plane really could be for the apple shipments being unusually high today i'm not sure if it's a usual thing or not).
So, it saves them money and gets more orders out faster to prep for each delivery separately.

there also may be assembly line issues with the different keyboards. they likely do them in batches. a pile of them with 100 gig hard drives, and a pile with that and 3 gigs of ram...

then they do the same thing with the language specific keyboards.

SO, given all the efficiency considerations, then they do FIFO.

so if you're a scott with 2gb and a 200gb hard drive, no scott with that machine who ordered after you will ship before you.

edit:
and yeah, they do tend to do US first. apple is a US company.
asian based companies do the same thing. the cool stuff is realeased at home (even if it's not made there) first, then to the rest of the world.
the newest toys are always in japan and china before we get them in the states.

when/if the europeans make things, they end up in europe first...

i'm in the same boat!

i ordered on the 24th, and it still hasnt been shipped to me in UK.

Why do US get them first, it should be in order they were ordered.
