I like to switch it up between the two... just to have a different look. My significant other.. she prefers the black theme and don't like white at all. I think it's more about how iOS has had the white aesthetics for so long... that white seems boring.

But I still like the white, but I keep it black majority of the time.

Mine switches at 4.30pm lol

I have to say, a week having this phone, and I'm enjoying it. I love the great display, like I've said in apps that offer black AMOLED setting it looks amazing plus it hides the notch. So A+ screen.

Oh yeah a flat screen YES. I don't like curved edge screens or even the slight minor curve on most recent phones. Thank you for going to a full flat straight edge display. I love that.

Battery life? LOL. Holy cow wow. Seriously destroys my recent Pixel phones. on the next level. This is truly a 2 day phone. No Pixel I owned could barely make it a day let alone 2. This feels like I get double the screen on time. Seems like it's a 9h or 10h SoT phone.

vibration is best in class.

iOS has come a long way since my last iPhone the 7 Plus. I do prefer stock Android better, but iOS 14.3 isn't bad and seems doable for me.

The phone feels smooth and fluid. No hiccups or lag really. But I imagine if this had a 120hz screen this would be the warp speed smoothest phone ever. But that'll come in the next iPhone.

Overall I like this. It's definitely a change for me. I'm more digging just the hardware of this phone, the amazing screen, loud speakers, smooth and fast UI. The battery life.

If the rumors are true the iPhone 13 Pro Max will have a 120hz screen. Much smaller reduced notch. More customization in iOS 15. Better privacy and security. And the typical yearly hardware updates, I think Android hos some serious competition here to be worried about.

Only if Google would build a high end Pixel 6 XL like on the quality level of the rumored 13 Pro Max hardware and features, that would be a dream come true. Or I would love a Pixel 5 XL, make a mix of designs of the Pixel 5 all screen little bezels but in the size of the iPhone 12 Pro Max and same build and materials. Then I woke up.

But to wrap up, I really like this 12PM is it my fav phone ever? No. But it's very good. It's more iOS I'm so so on but it's gotten better.

Couple things I really miss are AoD ( Always on Display ) I'm a huge fan of that. And the gesture based navigation is better on the Pixel's it can do much more with back and forward and fluidly moving around the OS better.

If you look at my posts over the years, the consistent things I've always put in top list of wants for a smartphone;

- Excellent battery life, needs to be over 7h SoT
- Bright vibrant display great outdoors and deep colors
- Smooth fluid UI with no lag or hiccups
- No bloatware or allow bloat to be deleted

Those above four criteria have been my main thing for any new smartphone I look to get. And this iPhone 12 Pro Max meets or exceeds those. I wish a Pixel could have all those 4 but they haven't, they have 2 of the 4, but can have all 4, and hopefully will in the Pixel 6 XL. For now the 12PM is my phone, until the Pixel 6, and hopefully Google makes a XL version, and a high end phone, not mid range.

The notch is ugly AF and I don't like it one bit, but thankfully with the awesome black AMOLED display and apps that can go full deep black option, the notch gets hidden completely, and makes it look like the screen is bezel less and full display to the top, and actually looks great. Some other misc. nit picks with iOS overall, but not major deal breakers.

I recall how you were adamant about not going with the iPhone due to the notch... well, its cool you came around. My cousin has the 12PM and it's definitely a beaut! It's just my iPhone days are over with until they address a couple software tweaks like multiple audio stream and a revamped notification center. I would mention multi-tasking, but I don't think Apple would do such a thing.

I had the Pixel 3 XL, with the GIANT notch, and hated it, but loved everything else about the phone and just dealt with the notch.

Yeah notifications suck pretty bad on iOS 14 whereas Android 11 is light years ahead. Like when my buddy texts me a few times, why on the lockscreen do I see 3 different text notifications from the same contact? It should just be grouped together as one thread.

AoD I do dearly miss, I really like Always on Display.

think if they don't add spilt screen this year not sure they ever will. They as it stands think if you want to do that you will use your iPad lol.

still they have made big steps with multitasking by adding Picture in Picture so no reason why they won't include it on the phone. I will be honest if apple does add spilt screen I'm not really sure what would make me keep using android if I'm honest.

The reasons I started to use android again apple are addressing like

120hz
PIP
widgets

so if they add spilt screen there's nothing really missing aside from pericope lens which I hope will arrive on iPhone in 2022

saying that pop up window on android is truly awesome and I think thats more useful than spilt screen

Well, iOS does alright with grouping them together. My issue with Notification Center is that it’s so unappealing, if that makes any sense. I know I might come off as being picky. But it’s the arrangement of it... from Android it seems as though there’s a purpose with how Notifications are laid out. I’ll have to do a lengthy post about it some day.

Tbh, I rather have multiple audio streams over splitscreen. With Apple adding PiP... it should be be a layup at this point. The reason I like having multiple audio streams for Android. I can watch a Twitch stream or something on YT, while have Apple Music/podcast playing in the background. I like the versatility of having multiple audio streams, I think that’s one of Jason Snell and Federico biggest complaint of iOS.

Went with a simple minimal theme, all stock iOS 14.3. Before this it required a JB;

About the large size of the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Is it a big phone? Yes. But any recent XL or Plus, or Max named phone I've owned, have all been large phones, and not a one hand device. Only phone that's truly an easy one handed phone would be like the Pixel 5, but I found that too small, and hard to type on, and a bit tiny to see the display well. I gave my Pixel 5 to my son, it is a really cool phone though.

But yes I am comfortable with the 12 Pro Max size, so much screen real estate for YouTube and videos on Reddit and Twitter. Plus like I've said many times, the screen tech in this phone is fantastic, the deep black AMOLED display is just #1 for me, plus it also gets plenty bright outdoors, and easy to see outside in the sun.

Yeah, I'm still a bit miffed on certain iOS stuff, and find stock Android better, but iOS 14.3 is growing on me, meaning I'm getting used to it, or it's limitations and differences compared to what I'm accustomed to.

But the big features most important to me on a smartphone are here in spades;

- Battery life #1
- Bright vibrant display with great black AMOLED screen

I didnt think the Pro Max felt too bad. The width and flat sides made it feel bigger than it is for sure. But I didnt think it was unwieldy like the S20 Ultra was because the weight in the Pro Max is balanced so well.

It's great how my phone now can be somewhat themed, being stock, no JB or anything. But my last iPhone, the 7 Plus required a JB for almost every tweak I have stock now;

-Widgets needed a JB back on the 7 Plus
-Icon themes needed a JB
-Dark theme need a JB
-Phone calls coming in as a banner notification, and not take up whole screen required a JB
-Volume HUD minimal and to the side now needed a JB
-Default app settings needed a JB

I used all of those JB tweaks back then, must haves. Now my 12PM can do of the above stock.

Reduce motion and Prefer Cross-Fade Transitions

really makes opening and closing apps just a quick flash blink of an eye and open. No long drawn out slow fade in like normal on iOS.

Battery life on this phone is just insane. Not joking almost double my Pixel 4 XL
Not wrong, picked up my 12 pro max on launch day, yet to charge twice throughout the day, finish the day with 50% left sometimes. Had to charge my xs max twice a day.

This phone is a animal when it comes to battery life.

iMessage.

Ok now that I'm using this iPhone and iMessage is the text app, I can't really see anything special about it. Not saying it's bad or anything, but don't see what the hype is about?

It works no different than Google Messages, or Signal, or WhatsApp, or Textra, etc...Doesn't seem a million times better than other text apps.

Actually one pet peeve is when forwarding an article or something, I have to actually start typing the name or group name for that thread to show up as an option. On Google Messages when forwarding you see your lists of previous messages right there and can choose immediately.

Like I said I'm not knocking iMessage it does the job, but it's not special or anything. Seems like just another text app I'd download from the Play Store on my Android phone. I guess I just don't see why it's praised so much?

Great thing about iMessage, when you send photos or videos to another iPhone user with iMessage, they receive the photos and videos in full resolution.

Blue bubbles for life ??

Yes I'm aware of that, and it's great. But my immediate family and friend circle is like 70% Android users. DOH. My Wife and kids use Pixel phones, my siblings, of the three one is Android, the other two iPhone. My co-corkers are 90% Android users.

Then yeah, if your social circle is not on iMessage... you won't really think too highly about it.

I've been on iMessage since its introduction... I've tried RCS briefly, but its the polish of iMessage that makes it stand apart. There's 3rd party app integration along with features that I've grown to enjoy with my family. I've played around with Samsung Memoji-like feature, but its just a different experience when it comes to Apple.

Its one of those things, where you gotta be in the know.. similar to an inside joke. Once you are fully invested in iMessage, its difficult to venture away from it.
