I don’t game on my cell phone. That’s what my custom built gaming PC is for. I built this winter with a RTX 3080, AMD 5950X, 32GB RAN, etc. Windows 10 Pro.

And for my kids I also built them they’re very first PCs for Christmas present, just lower end with RTX 3070s each and 5600X processors.

I would never buy a Mac in a million years because they can’t be customized and suck for gaming.

Actually kinda thought about this myself. Not as much as the M1 mac lately but I've been a little curious. Couple reasons:

I think I'm a little bored with Android. New s21 just announced and meh ?

The monthly "security" updates.

I barely customize my phone anymore.

Don't ROM.

Basically waste my time trying to maintain root and keeping updated to fend off ads the best I can.

The ecosystem thing.

The last couple pixels I've gotten just pretty much sit around.

Seems like the big G is taking control away and slowly closing off android.

I have never seriously taken a look at an iPhone. Just used an ipad mini which I did find backwards.

Anyway, sorry if I've thread jacked. Haven't been around these parts much in a while.

Will be following this thread ??

The whole iMessage thing, I guess I just don't get what it's all about? I don't own any Apple prodcuts besides this iPhone, my PC is a custom built high end Windows computer. My TV is a Chrome cast based OLED system. I don't own a tablet. My family is on Google Pixel phones.

To me iMessage so far is no different than any old text app. Is there a setting or something I'm missing, that turns on all the iMagic?

The “iMagic” ? happens when messaging other iPhone users. iMessage will show them responding with a little chat indicator. Also file sharing limits don’t exist. You can text a full size image. Tapback replies have become very useful to me as well for a quick, wordless reply to someone. You can share location with a fellow iMessage user straight in the app. Send/receive cash in the app. Turn on or off read receipts per recipient. The list goes on and on. Oh, and your messages are encrypted and not readable to Google, FB, the carrier or anyone else. I value that type of respect for privacy.

It is relevant when all of your contacts also use iPhones, so if most of your contacts are using Android yes you are missing out. My entire family and all friends use iPhones (sadly) so Android is a royal pain for me. We take lots of videos and AirDrop is awesome, can just send it instantly to the other person if they are right there, otherwise iMessage is simple and you get full quality. Sharing iCloud links in group iMessage conversations is great for videos. My brother and parents use Macs and they can iMessage from their Macs. There are so many things natively baked in, if all your contacts use iPhones it is wonderful.

It's too bad for me, because I really enjoy Android and Pixels and Galaxies. Not exactly "suffering" with my 12 Pro Max though, haha...

How is the differences with the apps? I've heard a lot of g apps actually seem better then on android?

Are the regular app store apps pretty quality compared to their android counterparts?

That max pro costs as much as a computer o_O of course it is a computer.

iOS is a few tweaks away from stopping me from ever considering Android again:

• simple icon theming. It’s close, but still not a simple change like Android

• let me place icons wherever I’d like on the homescreen

• Apple Pencil support on the Pro Max

• widgets with real functionality

That’s it for me

Yeah, for your use case, the value of iMessage is diminished for sure. As others have already mentioned, the value really grows with heavy use of Apple gear, both by yourself and more so when most of your contacts also use them.

Save for the Pencil support on the phone, pretty much summarizes it for me. One other item I’d add is the ability to set more types of apps as defaults instead of just mail client and web browser. I’d love to be able to set different navigation, music and calendar apps.

That’s true. However, with navigation apps, I like that CarPlay’s updated homescreen will display Waze or Google Maps in that small window and not just limit it to Apple Maps. Default music app would be aces!

For me I need Pencil support for the pro max, a periscope lens with better zoom, split screen apps, real themes and Dex like feature. If iOS/iPhone had these features I’d probably never look at android again. Although I might be tempted by foldables. I almost bit the bullet on the fold 2 last week but I changed my mind. I need to see it in person first. However all shops are closed here apart from the supermarkets. Also Samsung are confusing me because they have released 3 good phones, note 20 ultra, S21 ultra and the fold 2. Whereas the iPhone 12 Pro Max was meh for me this year.

The majority of my contacts use WhatsApp but this video talking about iMessage is interesting nonetheless

I can definitely see Pencil support coming to the Pro Max... Periscope Lens? Perhaps. Split Screen Apps? Highly doubtful. Real Themes? Maybe... but Dex-Like feature? macOS when iPhone plugged in to a monitor... I don't think that's ever going to happen.

I'm different in that way. I didn't wanna see it in person, I've seen plenty of videos of it... knew exactly what I was getting into when I first made the purchased. However, when actually experiencing the unboxing for the first time and holding it. It's a more enriching experience, imo. I know @Awesomesince86 had issues with apps being optimized for the tablet and that's something you really won't know until you actually use it.

One thing worth mentioning... I don't know how you navigate Dex, but the TouchPad using Fold2 is awesome! I thought about going with a traditional mouse, but the gestures are better on the TouchPad. I haven't done much research on any alternative Multi-touch trackpads, but I don't think 3rd parties or even Samsung has thought that far ahead with Dex support.

Well periscope lens is expected in 2022 on the pros at least. I’m hoping spilt screen arrives on iOS 15 but will see on that one.

I use spilt screen everyday on my iPad. I don’t think I would use it much on the iPhone but be nice to have for sure.

if apple can bring widgets and Picture in Picture they can bring spilt screen

Well, it wasn’t much of a stretch for Widgets... they introduced Widgets back in iOS 8, it was only a matter of time till they progress out from the Notification Center. And I doubt PiP wasn’t that difficult to implement, but I think SplitScreen will need some major rethinking on the iPhone.

If apple don’t add if they simply don’t think it’s useful enough on smaller displays. They may not make it a OS bit maybe a new phone feature. Dunno they can certainly make it happen

They don't think a lot of things are important or useful. Doesn't mean I agree with them though lol
for me spilt screen multitasking is the only thing missing from an OS point of view for me. Apple added two things I wanted which was widgets and PIP. So if they do add this feature then for me it's all perfect as I do prefer the OS and apps on iOS it would be tough to justify buying an android device each year when IOS has all the software features I need

there is talk we will see widgets being able to be used to interact with them for IOS 15 and iPad OS will allow widgets to be placed anywhere...granted they should have added this for IOS 14. You know it's got to happen as what else can they really add to iPad OS? aside from pro apps maybe.

I think we gonna see a redesign HomeScreen for iPadOS or maybe a tweak in multitasking. But I always view Apple approaching updates between iPhone and iPad as a ”it’s iPad turn, next year iPhone.” Couldn’t find the right definition for it.. lol.

But in prior updates... they tend to put more efforts toward one over the other. iOS 14 has more iPhone-packed features, iOS 13 gave us SlideOver and mouse support (gestures) . I would keep going through iOS history, but if you follow the roadmap.. it tends to be Apple method. I’m not saying iPhone won’t get features, but they attempt to give the iPad more thought.

Although I wanna see widgets on the HomeScreen, but it’s not as important to me... I want Apple to put more focus toward External Support. I know it doesn’t seem much, but adding large files from a external drive is so mind-numbing slow. Apple has built iOS on their APFS and moving files among the system is fast, but slow for external drives.
