So owning this phone for 3 weeks now, another mini review;

- First two weeks were a rough transition from stock Android and my Pixel, iOS is radically different in how it operates and getting around the UI, etc... now I have gotten used to iOS the best I can and will. But it definitely takes a few weeks to make the change from Android to iPhone, certainly can't adjust over one weekend, it takes time.

- I mainly like this iPhone 12 Pro Max mostly for the hardware;
The screen tech is best, the deepest blacks, and vibrant bright colors, I love this display.
The battery life, holy cow wow, insane battery life. My Pixel 4 XL at the end of a workday, at night before charging the phone, and it would always be in the 15% to 20% range left, with this 12 Pro Max, end of night battery is like 55% to 60% left. Truly a night and day difference in battery life between the two.
The speakers are loud and clear
UI is smooth and pretty much lag free, especially with Reduced Motion and Prefer Cross-Fade Transition enabled, those two options on make a big difference.
Dark theme looks so good on this phone, true AMOLED deep blacks and apps that do the black background look awesome.

- I still like stock Android better than iOS, but I will say iOS 14.3 has come a long way and many little improvements since my last iPhone that ran iOS 9, I hated iOS then, now it's bearable.
- Still hate the stupid notch, but at least in black backgrounds it's hidden away, in Reddit and Twitter with black theme, it does look killer.

So overall I like this iPhone 12 Pro Max, like I keep saying mainly for the great hardware, and technology inside and build quality. iOS? Meh it's ok, rather have stock Android 11 on here. I'll be keeping this phone, until the Fall, and see if Google goes back to a flagship, and crosses fingers makes a Pixel 6 XL, if not, see if the iPhone 13 does indeed have a smaller notch and 210hz refresh display, those two hardware changes on the iPhone would be a welcome upgrade.

iMessage? With my family and friends circle being 70% Android users, and not owning any other Apple products, not getting an iWatch ( I am not a watch guy whatsoever ) or iPad ( don't care for tablets ) and never a Mac ( I build custom Gaming PCs ), so I guess I won't get as much out of iMessage, but it does the job. I have a lot of my circle on Telegram now, using that a lot now.

Strange considering you have YouTube premium, is the video in full screen mode when you’re swiping up?

Have you got this setting turned on?
View attachment 1715489

Shouldn’t be a loop hole since he has YouTube premium.

Google has not set up native PiP for the YouTube app, either on the iPhone or iPad. The only way presently is via the browser. The solution @The Game 161 provides does work. ?

PIP does work but through shortcuts.

this is what I use for iPhone and iPad. yeah not perfect but pretty good to be honest and you don't need a premium membership

Thanks for this. Not the most elegant but does the job. ?

Isn't there something equivalent to YouTube Vanced that supports PiP along with other features like adblock, forcing resolution/codec, etc. What about Cercube or YouTube++?

Regarding PiP, have people tried this app?

Always worked well for me.

Dropped my phone from about 5 or 6 feet up, onto concrete. Ugh.

Phone is A ok, zero issues :)

Was on the phone and getting out of my car had phone up to my ear, but had other stuff in my hand, was doing the lifting up neck and head hold of the phone, and it slipped out and fell all the way down to the street. I was like NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

It landed right on the corner, more of the side, and my thin little case held up, the case had a minor scuff on it, but the phone itself nothing :)

I’m not sure if I’ve tried it out... but this feature is built into Safari already. And for some reason... I’m not getting the option to add PiPifier to my Share Sheet under Safari.

But I do like the Scriptable App for YT though.

AOD would be the best thing they could do. Such a good feature that always has me admiring my Pixel 4.

AOD is the last thing on that list that I would choose as an upgrade but that's just me. In a world where most people are after the most battery possible it's ironic they want a battery draining feature.

A smaller notch and 120hz would be nice though.

Will say Id you use PIP you get zero ads so if you don’t. Have a YouTube premium membership it’s great as ads are annoying on long videos on YouTube without it

Same, but I wear an Apple Watch so have zero need for AOD.

I’d personally want TouchID added (not to replace FaceID though) and 120Hz refresh as long as battery life isn’t impacted. Don’t care about the notch...unless you can remove it entirely, doesn’t impact me. Much rather have it with FaceID than not have it and lose FaceID.

My greatest desires regarding the iPhone are still iOS related. I want to be able to freely place content on home screens without it snapping to the top and choose different default apps for other categories beyond email and browser.

And if they completely ditch the ability to plug in my iPhone, this 12 Pro Max will be my last iPhone for a while. No port is my breaking point with Apple—absolutely moronic to consider it at this point, IMO.

The charging port is long gone I reckon, apple is warming everyone up for its removal by releasing MagSafe last year.

Only a matter of time.

Yeah, I know it’s an eventuality but it’s the most blatant move by Apple to make a change for profit with no functional improvement—it solves no problems and only likely creates more. And if other manufacturers follow suit, they won’t get my money either.

I admittedly don’t plug in my phone for much but the two instance I do it for are important—occasional fast charging and CarPlay. My car only has wired CarPlay and Android Auto and I’m not leaving it behind. It’s also nice knowing in a worst case scenario, I can force my iPhone into DFU mode and fully restore it with a computer via the lightning port.

If the next iPhone series doesn’t have a physical port of some kind, I’m no longer an iPhone user.

Personally i would love AOD on an iPhone. It really doesn't cause battery drain as most people think.
It would not be as much a battery drain as 120hz would be imho.
I have an AW6 and still would love to see AOD on my iPhone. But I can see why some would not want it as well. We all have our preferences.

I think removing the port will happen in the next 2 years. Maybe not this year but by next year.
The only thing in the new iPhone box will be the iPhone. No more cables and the box will shrink as well.

The impact of removing the port would be charging iPhones in our vehicles.
But I am sure Apple will have a Mag-Safe external battery they will sell us at a hefty price. It will connect and hold like the Mag-Safe puck does now only on a external battery.

Better to have and switch it off then not have the option I would say

i really enjoy AOD on my series 6 but would keep it on the phone as well no harm in having it on really. I hope we do get it on iphone 13 pros but won’t be a massive issue if it’s not but would be nice to have

I think Apple may actually include a MagSafe charger (no plug of course) as even after two years, MagSafe wouldn’t be anywhere as ubiquitous as lightning cables. That being said, won’t surprise me if they don’t.

We’re already starting to see MagSafe vehicle mounts (with and without charging built in)—hell you could just use a MagSafe charger in your car if it doesn’t already have its own wireless charger. But yeah, it’ll mean a whole lot of more MagSafe accessory sales.

Regardless, no physical power/data port means the end of my iPhone ownership. My issue is more specifically in regards to physical data transfer. A smartphone is a pocketable computer—there’s no way I’d accept any sort of traditional computer without any data ports, why on Earth should it be acceptable on a smartphone? Genuinely blows my mind that it’s even being considered.

I guess an open question for all who uses stock Android with root (reckon not a whole lot of peeps anymore though) and used an iPhone. How does the experience differ? How is using an iPhone vs a rooted stock Android device? Is there much difference? I'm sure an iPhone is going to have way less hands-on maintenance.

Are ads just as obnoxious as they are on android?

Really want a solid upgrade for my main line (I'm still using an s7 edge on it!)

No hands on maintenance, set up the phone and enjoy. ? no stupid ram management, no stupid performance settings, no ads on iOS.?

Best in the industry battery saving when in standby mode.

If you fancy a big phone, go with the 12 pro max, amazing phone, battery king.

You won’t even see any lag or stutter, buttery, silky smooth, had 3 family members switch from Samsung phones, sworn they are never going back.

you’re guaranteed 5-6 years of major iOS updates.and you get updates on time, doesn’t matter what region or when your carrier wants to release the software. iOS same day software release for everyone.

Funny thing though about Apple's propaganda and how fast their chips are supposed to be.

I am a long time iPhone user. I have had every iphone since the very first one and upgrade every year.
I also get the latest Android phones as well

I switch between a Note 20 Ultra and a iPhone Pro Max all the time. But I have yet to notice any speed difference in everyday use.
