Funny thing though about Apple's propaganda and how fast their chips are supposed to be.

I am a long time iPhone user. I have had every iphone since the very first one and upgrade every year.
I also get the latest Android phones as well

I switch between a Note 20 Ultra and a iPhone Pro Max all the time. But I have yet to notice any speed difference in everyday use.

Agree about the speed in everyday use. In addition to my 12 Pro Max daily driver, I have a Pixel 4 XL and during casual, everyday use they feel equally fluid/snappy/buttery/<insert performance oriented adjective here>, etc. I think high end mobile CPUs are overkill for general performance needs and you won’t notice differences out of the box unless you start examining them with a fine tooth comb, so to speak.

Where I think you may see differences is if you try to push them to their absolute max, i.e. intensive gaming or heavy 4K video editing. Also, I think iPhone performance will fade less over time vs. some of the competition.

As far as ads go, the only ‘ads’ may be suggestions from Apple to use some of their services if you aren’t signed up but I’m honestly not sure what that experience is like as I already use most of them. I don’t use Apple News+ but have never seen an ad for it from Apple unless I go into the Apple News app and click that tab.

I just mentioned "ads" or propaganda so to speak because the poster I replied to screenshotted an chip benchmark touting how fast the Apple chips were.

the benchmarks and the A strength really is the optimisation and having a 3600 battery competing and beating a 5000 batteries for example in battery life. plus portrait mode for one the A chip helps with this and off course image processing but in terms of speed you won't notice much difference day to day using the devices the top android devices and iPhone for example.

It's a smoother more pleasant overall experience on iOS, that's thanks to the A14 beast.

I don't know. Not doubting the A14. I know it's great. But having switched between iOS and the Note 20 Ultra several times, not once did I think "man if only the Note had the A14".

That might be your preference. If you prefer IOS that is great it has a lot of great features. But that speed and benchmarks you listed do not equate any difference I can tell from the Note 20 Ultra and the iPhone 12 Pro max.
They both appear just as smooth and pleasant as the other in overall user experience.

I have more issues with my iPhone 12 Pro Max (apps crashing, screenshot issues, apps reloading instead of staying in memory) than I do with my Pixel 5. I enjoy both phones and use them interchangeably but to say iOS is more smooth/pleasant/reliable is completely false in my experience.

No issues here, 12 pro max, maybe you got a lemon, get a replacement.

I still have my pixel 4 XL not using it anymore now that I have the 12 Pro Max but I still mess around with the old pixel here and there and it’s still smooth as butter very fluid no hiccups no lag. And the gesture navigation I find better Implemented than on the iPhone

Man I wish Google made a Pixel 5 XL, give it a 6.7" screen but still compact no bezels like the Pixel 5, and a large 4,500mAh battery, and I would've been all over that. But the small Pixel 5 was just too tiny for me plus hard to see the screen at that size, I prefer bigger phones.

Not to mention that Apple has gotten really bad with bugs and squashing them. Keyboard lag in messages app, the fact that people weren't getting notified of incoming text messages and it took 2 months before they fixed it? I know that no OS is perfect but I've definitely seen a decrease in QC compared to when I first had an iPhone 7 years ago.

Who cares about things like a working keyboard and text message notifications? Have you not seen the benchmarks? /s

Seriously though that notification bug is super annoying and has caused some problems for my business.

One beef I have with iOS vs. stock Android is several things, sort of related.

Text correction, and voice to text stuff;

-
Typing on this iPhone blows, it gets so many words screwed up and incorrect. My Pixel phones weren't perfect either, but I felt they were like 80% accurate, I would say this iPhone is like 50% accurate.

- Voice to text. Holy cow, this one is a big one, I use it a lot for texts and stuff, the iPhone totally sucks and is terrible for voice to text, it screws up so many words, and just doesn't do it right. My Pixel wasn't rock solid either in this regard, but it was noticeably more accurate and far better.

- Copy + Paste. Stock Android feels light years ahead in Copy Paste stuff, and moving the cursor around and stuff is just more accurate and nicer on Android compared to iOS.

- Wish I could say "hey Google" or "Ok Google" to open up assistant and ask the weather or sports score or look up something. I refuse to ever mutter the words "Hey Siri" no way.

I know these are nit picky things, but now that I am using this iPhone awhile, these little things are bothering me. Not a deal killer to get rid of the phone, but frustrating.

Have you tried using gboard or swift key?

Yeah voice to text is awful. Keyboard wise though it’s rather flawless for me. Maybe I’m just used to it dunno

Keyboard typing isn't terrible, i do feel the Pixel is better at correct typing, but not too bad on the iPhone.

But holy hell, voice to text is awful on this iPhone, night and day different compared to Android. And why if I use the Gboard and press the mic key on Gboard, it doesn't activate right away? Tapping the mic key on Gboard goes to some strange page or app for a split second then allows me to speak, but if I don't speak right away it goes away. Very frustrating.

So I just use the mic key that's default in the bottom right corner, it works, but man the transcription is the worst, like it messes up words so bad.

Pleasant is subjective (which I'd disagree with), but smoother it is not. I'd go as far as to say next to a 120hz display, the iPhone seems somewhat jittery..
Fake news mate, 120hz isn’t even noticeable on a mobile phone screen, iOS has always been the smoother lag free software, most people know Samsung phones are only good at bloat, frame rate drops, heat and battery drain issues.

Right! Benchmark wars stopped mattering like 5 years ago. lol, nobody cares about benchmarks anymore. We're to a point where they don't translate into any discernable difference in everyday use.

Whatever you have to tell yourself to make you feel better about carrying around 60hz... Of course when Apple finally does it, the it'll be groundbreaking... I know I know. We've seen this episode too many times now. lol @ saying the difference isn't noticeable. That either means you've never actually seen it, or you're just flat out making it up something to save face. The difference is extremely easy to see. Knock it off. ?

Yet people that own both say that it's very noticeable.
