It could be question though if it is reasonable that prices are linked so hard to the US economy.

Apple is after all multinational company and should adjust prices somewhat to the local economy. Reasonably, sales in UK will go down because of this but that seems acceptable to Apple rather than adjusting prices to the local buying power.

Vote with your wallets, don't buy. It's the only way to reduce prices. If that does not work, switch brand. It's called market economy, something I think Liz is in favour of.

Disgusting £100 Price Hike on iPad Air today 18th October 2022! 🤬 but with no updates!!! I'm done with Apple. Before the online store closed it was £569. Now it's £669!!!

How can Apple justify this price hike on the iPad Air? when it hasn't even received any updates today!

There’s also been huge price increases across the whole iPad lineup. 9th Gen iPad is £369 (up from £319), new iPad is £499, Mini is £569 (up from £479), Air is £669 (up from £569), 11-inch Pro is £899 (up from £749), 12.9 inch Pro is £1249 (up from £999)

WTF?!
Wait…what? The Mini I bought earlier this year now costs more?? That can’t be right, can it? It’s absurd if true!!

They are still manufacturing the existing products on sale, but they cost more to build, ship, and support. It is only fair these costs are passed onto consumers.
Those manufacturing costs were predetermined with contracts years in advance, and it’s well known Apple pre-purchased components years in advance as well. And unless Apple increases all their employees wages upward inline with inflation, Apple’s internal fixed cost probably wouldn’t vary way out of expectation.

In the end, consumer sees an increase of the sticker price of an existing product.

Now I’m not saying Apple couldn’t do this. It’s their business, and I don’t see it’s affecting their brand that much, especially with people defending them willingly.

I’m not going to argue whether price increase was right or not, especially for older products. But I was planning to buy an iPad Pro this time to refresh my 10.5 pro, but I find the price increase especially for such a small refresh too much for me, and not worth shelling out the money. There may be many who think like this.
I like apple products very much, but not enough to sell my kidney or to take a huge credit card emi. So for me the 10.5 pro will run for another year.

And with the MacBook Air M2 Iam also starting to question the use of an iPad.

Virtually all sophisticated procurement contracts include a price adjustment clause linked to CPI, PPI, or similar index. Nobody will gamble this and neither would Apple. Just look at memory and storage prices - they’re cyclical.

My eldest daughter has been holding off upgrading her iPad for a few months now in readiness for the new entry level iPad. Unfortunately like the Air and every other Apple product it has shot up in price. The entry iPad has gone up £120 from last year so we are now looking at either a refurbished iPad or last years model which has the classic home button style.

People are just very turned off by all these increases but it’s like everything at the moment. Vote with your wallets people and get the best deals you can. Apple and every other manufacturer need to be sent the message the consumer has the power on this topic.

The 9th gen iPad is on sale for £299 at John Lewis, Currys and Amazon which is a decent saving compared to £369 at Apple.

The iPad range is now both confusing and (at least in the UK) eye-wateringly expensive.

Inflation and exchange rates may be a reason, but I just can't see them selling with a less than compelling refresh and people's incomes under pressure (and certainly not keeping with these price rises).

The prices are rising and the updates are lacklustre. I'm not justifying it but at least if there was a tangible upgrade it'd make the price hikes easier to swallow. For me, I think I'm pretty much priced out of the higher-end options and thus may revert to being a generation behind and getting refurbs. I've been really happy with my M1 MBA refurb so I'm not missing out on much.

I'd like to think that the prices will go back down again eventually but if people still eat up Apple Products despite the price increase I don't think they will.

Yes the prices are up and the software quality is down.

Well Apple are tiny on everything they sell outside the US, they are about to be smaller. And don't hate me, their market share is crap globally.

I can justify £4K on a MacBook Pro for work and actually the cost v performance and therefore value isn't bad. I needed to replace a monitor recently and the only 5K option was the Studio display and for the the first time in over 30 years of Macs, iPhone and iPads I felt Apple was really overcharging and taking the p*ss. I was thinking of upgrading my iPad mini but now I absolutely won't – arguments over the weak pound and inflation aside, it's price has now just pushed it over the 'nice to have' barrier. I won't be the only one putting off non-essential Apple purchases and I think they'll suffer a big drop in sales outside the US.

I love Apple products. Heck, I'm writing this on an MBP M1, while listening to my stereo HomePods through my Apple TV with my iPhone 14 Pro to my side.

But lets not kid ourselves. Apple cares about one thing and one thing alone. Their bottom line.

They don't give a rats you-know-what about the consumer and they will milk as much from you and I as they can.

They make nice products, yes, and they have a wonderfully powerful marketing machine, and they bang on about caring about our privacy (maybe), but the reality is they just want our cold hard cash.

This move is annoying but doesn't surprise me.
