My personal opinion: a hardware revision can help bump sales, and Apple is looking for untapped potential in other product lineups (in addition to ramping up services) to keep growing. IPads have been an area that have seen growth in recently months. Keep the momentum going.
Also: by recent accounts, an update this fall would be relatively minor. Perhaps it’s also a stop-gap so that they don’t go 24+ months between updates, as many expect some substantial updates in late 2020 / early 2021. They’ve been updating their Mac lineup a little more frequently in recent months. Maybe they see similar value in keeping performance topped off on the iPad Pro lineup as well. We’ll see.
That's a good point! I think the iPad is growing because Apple are pushing it further with every generation, i love the fact that we now have iPadOS. If they do update the iPad Pro today or at a separate event (probably next month), i would upgrade from my 2017 Pro and pass that down to my mother (who's using an Air 2). I've tried out the redesigned iPad Pro in store and i like it, i love they updated Apple Pencil 2, the tap gestures on the Pencil are really handy to use.
Maybe the iPad Pro is also getting an updated processor because of the Apple Arcade streaming service, it would make sense for Apple to make to sure that the Pro's can play all of the upcoming games that will be launching with that service.
It would be nice to see updated iPad's at todays event, i'm not expecting it tho. Apple haven't announced new iPad's at a September event since the very first iPad Pro was unveiled at the 2015 September event.
