When will iPad Pros get any kind of upgrades?

My personal opinion: a hardware revision can help bump sales, and Apple is looking for untapped potential in other product lineups (in addition to ramping up services) to keep growing. IPads have been an area that have seen growth in recently months. Keep the momentum going.

Also: by recent accounts, an update this fall would be relatively minor. Perhaps it’s also a stop-gap so that they don’t go 24+ months between updates, as many expect some substantial updates in late 2020 / early 2021. They’ve been updating their Mac lineup a little more frequently in recent months. Maybe they see similar value in keeping performance topped off on the iPad Pro lineup as well. We’ll see.

That's a good point! I think the iPad is growing because Apple are pushing it further with every generation, i love the fact that we now have iPadOS. If they do update the iPad Pro today or at a separate event (probably next month), i would upgrade from my 2017 Pro and pass that down to my mother (who's using an Air 2). I've tried out the redesigned iPad Pro in store and i like it, i love they updated Apple Pencil 2, the tap gestures on the Pencil are really handy to use.

Maybe the iPad Pro is also getting an updated processor because of the Apple Arcade streaming service, it would make sense for Apple to make to sure that the Pro's can play all of the upcoming games that will be launching with that service.
It would be nice to see updated iPad's at todays event, i'm not expecting it tho. Apple haven't announced new iPad's at a September event since the very first iPad Pro was unveiled at the 2015 September event.

If it's just an update to the processor and camera, they could announce it by saying something like "we have updated the processor and camera in the iPad Pro also" BUT i think it will be at an October event next month. The reason i think that is because of the 16" MacBook Pro redesign that is rumoured to be announced.

If we get an iPad today, I'd be more inclined to expect the 10.2" refresh of the basic 9.7". That's the most overdue, and Apple really seem to prefer the focus be on iPhones at September launches. Maybe we will get both, like in 2015, but if there's an October event for the 16" MacBook Pro they might well hold the Pros back for then (that will be 12 months from the 2018 launch, today would be only ~10 months).

All the signs and turn of events lead to a scenario which doesn't look like there will be new iPad Pro's today !!

The current iPad Pro would be a monster for arcade. No need to update for that.

Maybe it will just be a silent update, sometime between today and the beginning of November.

I almost bought an iPad Pro 11 on Saturday for school, then I saw that there may be new iPad Pro’s announced. So either I’m getting a newly designed iPad Pro or a 2018 iPad Pro.

Hey there

Weren't iPad's always introduced at iOS events? Or will it be October when we see a new iPad Pro.

Also why does the iPad pro only have 4-6GB of Ram. Shouldn't it have at least 8GB? My smartphone has 8GB of Ram.

Or is the iPad OS really that efficient that even heavier design & video tasks are done without hiccups with only 4GB?

8 GB of RAM seems like overkill to me for a mobile OS. Android devices with that much have it just for the sake of spec bragging or because of poor management. They're still out-performed by iPhones with 3 or 4 GB.

no ipad pro today, just the 10.2" ipad

We don't even know that. That's actually the device that I would most like to see but I'm not holding my breath. Might not come until October.

iPadOS coming out and Arcade announced. There will be a focus on iPad this year. It absolutely makes sense to see a Pro and possibly another iPad released.

I really doubt new pros will be announced today just thinking about this logically. Who knows.

There is no gurentee there will be an October event. They are not common and th reason we had one last year was bc there were a ton of devices that go refreshed. Most of them have already been refreshed this year. It wouldn’t make sense for Apple to hold a event just for a 16’ MacBookpro. It no event in October, expect the pros to deffinalty be refreshed in their spring event.

As far as ram, apples hardware and software are optimized perfectly for performance. No need for more ram that’s never going to be used.

It would be nice to see an iPad Pro with OLED display and backlit Keyboard Folio. Meanwhile, I got to play with the "Rev B" LG UltraFine 5K display connected to my iPad Pro 12.9-inch (Gen 3): https://barefeats.com/LG-UltraFine-5K-Rev-B.html
I didn’t see it in your article, but does the new LG UltraFine 5K support 4K 60 Hz from the iPad Pro AND USB 3 file transfer speed from its port simultaneously?

If it can, this would be a key advantage vs. other solutions.

I think we can expect an A13X model to ship with few other changes. Structural reinforcement actually being the real reason for the update. I'm sure Apple never planned to ship a 2019 iPad Pro refresh, but when it became clear they could not hide behind the structural issues, they elected to fast-track a structurally reinforced model. Which of course they can ship without some other excuse, so there will be a new chip.

Rumours appear to indicate there is no such thing as A13X.

However, there are references to a new refreshed A12X as well as references to A14X. Mind you, even if this were accurate, there’s always the possibility Apple could label a refreshed A12X as A13X for marketing purposes.

Im all for backlit keys but isn’t an OLED screen a disadvantage when producing content? If I am into editing images for example I cannot use a screen that has really strongly saturated blacks.
Sure, as a consumption device it’s handy but that to me is not what the Pro is designed to do for most of us.

Sadly I did not try using the USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports on the LG UltraFine 5K while it was connected to the iPad Pro.

So they're using the new 10.2" iPad as the iPadOS marketing vehicle right now.

A) I wonder what internals needed updating to really optimize for iPadOS

B) I see less need for an event to update the iPad Pro with minor bumps... we'll see. Not that it would hurt to mention it in an event.

So no iPad Pro this event, I figured they’d have announced it right after the 10.2” iPad 7.
If there is a new iPad Pro we have October it looks like... or maybe they’ll do a silent refresh in terms of RAM or something for the iPPs.
I was thinking possibly silent update for iPad Pro sometimes between now and early November.

The store is still down though, so I can't check.
