aluminum/glass may make something pretty looking but they don't add any "function". polycarbon/plastics are better. allows lighter phone, less crack prone.

The aluminum unibody structure is supposed to be the support for the phone, it protects the core/innards of the phone. It's not just there for ***** and giggles. Altho it apparently scuffs and wears moreso than plastic, it is more durable and serves its purpose (most people don't understand this).

Not at all.

iOS works just like it did yesterday and it's still my favourite OS (at the moment).

----------

Like this?

There are a lot of new features, but saying they've added more than Apple has in the last five years is insane.

apple did not add that and it doesn't even work on the iphone 5

Nope. Only nice thing about the S4 is the screen to phone ratio. Still too ugly, gimmicky, and plasticky for my tastes.

I like how you android haters are saying the gs4 is lacking in innovation and is like apple that it has not brought anything new.

This phone going from the gs3 to gs4 added more features alone then all of the features apple has added in the last 5 years.

The phone will even take your blood glucose reading if you are a diabetic.

Sour grapes from the haters lol

Good night!

yeah, if you buy a few hundred $$$ in over priced accessories

i'll wait for the iwatch which will probably do all of this

did you even watch the show and see the features they added?

the phone can take 100 pictures in a second with its advanced burst shot, delete people that walked in the way of a picture, record an audio clip during the picture to savor the memory of that moment.I don't know about you buy when I look at old pictures I relive that thought in my head and can hear the laughs and talks we had when it was taken.

I can go on and on about the features the phone has that don't need any accessories and if apple innovated any of these so called gimmicks you people would be praising it like it was Jobs resurrection and would be bragging all up and down the net about them.

Every person I see using a note 2 is using an s pen to navigate it and now you can use you fingers in the air with the s4,you can touch the screen with gloves on and it will work just fine, there is so much Samsung has added to this cell its not even fair to call it a gs4,they could of cut half the features and saved the rest for the gs5 but they are not like apple and gave us everything they could think of.

its sporting the latest cat 3 lte modem that will hit 100mb/sec and has the fastest wifi standard you can get, there isn't a single new cell phone on the horizon that is using those yet and its also using the latest blutooh 4.0

When the iPhone 5 was released, IMHO it didn't overtake the SGS3, the two main stream tech magazines in the UK (T3 and Stuff) both agreed, in those two mags, even before they have tested the new HTC and SGS4 the iPhone is in about 4th place. All other iPhones on release, have gone straight to the top spot in both those mags and more interestingly have stopped there until the next iPhone was released. I fear that the iPhone will not be dominant again until mid 2014 at least, IMHO the iPhone 5S won't have enough to worry the SGS4.

That would seem to imply that you think the SGS4 will outsell the iPhone 5S....

Even given all the extremely educated "reasons" why the GS3 was better than the iPhone 5, the 5 still sold at a much faster rate (almost double) than the GS3 last year.

Obviously, sales don't make one phone better than the other, but that is what each company IS worried about.

I saw nothing in the GS4 that would worry me sales-wise if I were Apple. And if I'm HTC, I'm pouring a boatload of money into marketing because I see an opening to grab some Android marketshare.....IMO, the GS4 is more of the same....more of the same design (ugly), more of the same useless gimmicky features (most of which are available in better implementations on the various app stores), more of the same terrible screen tech (PENTILE?? ugh...and AMOLED...*hurl*).....

Sorry, despite what people here keep telling themselves, the iPhone 5 is a great smartphone. It's on par power wise with the best of them (with its "measley" dual core processor), it blows anything else out of the water when it comes to the GPU, it has the best (maybe second best behind the HTC One) display on the market, its a generic 16:9 4" - not abnormally tall at all, AND best of all....it gets better battery life than phone way bigger in size.....

Sounds pretty "outdated" to me.....

Likely what most of you are saying is that iOS feels outdated....I think there are some definite ways it can improve, and with the new team behind Ive and Federighi, I think we'll see some pretty awesome stuff come the iPhone 5S.

After what he said in his interview the other day and now having seen this GS4 release, I think Schiller is probably sitting there with a smirk on his face thinking "Just stick to the plan and they can't touch us".

I doubt the end user cares who made it as long as it works. It will probably work with a lightning to 30 pin adapter.

so you complaining about Samsung using accessories and when the end user buys something for the iphone and it doesn't work on the next phone its all good right?

and who wants to use adapters and wires?the Samsung is using NFC for the bands and from what I read it will measure heart rate, blood pressure and glucose on the fly while wearing the band.

all done wirelessly! and this is built into the os and not some 3rd party app and hardware

I can honestly say I have NEVER needed to take 100 subpar quailty pictures (or even great quality pictures) in a second....ever. And I don't see that need changing anytime soon.

If you relive the moment in your head, why do you need sound to help you out now? I'm confused by your reasoning here....at any rate, putting sound over a picture isn't innovative....its essentially a still video. OMG GIVE SAMSUNG INNOVATION OF THE YEAR

I can go on and on about the features the phone has that don't need any accessories and if apple innovated any of these so called gimmicks you people would be praising it like it was Jobs resurrection and would be bragging all up and down the net about them.

This argument is the biggest fallacy I've ever heard....

Apple would NEVER throw the kitchen sink at its users...that approach only serves to bloat the software and make the phone less efficient - the two things Apple is completely against. I hate to tell you this, but most people will never use most of the "features" Samsung announced (and many of us can already do a lot of those things with simple third party apps....and better I might add). That's the difference between "gimmick" and "innovation". One is a random feature used by few. The other changes the way you use a device......NOTHING they announced is innovative. Some maybe more useful than others.

Unless you're trying to use your phone while cooking, I can't see how hovering your fingers 1 cm over a touchscreen isn't extremely cumbersome.....

"Features" for "features" sake isn't a strategy I want my smartphone maker adopting....you can have all the random thoughts that pop into those Samsung execs' minds. I'll keep my highly tuned and efficient smartphone....where I can get 3rd party apps to do most of that crap anyways.

[QUOTE[its sporting the latest cat 3 lte modem that will hit 100mb/sec and has the fastest wifi standard you can get, there isn't a single new cell phone on the horizon that is using those yet and its also using the latest blutooh 4.0[/QUOTE]

Once again, specs for specs sake. Do you have an 802.11ac router/modem? Cause I don't....I wish I did, but they just came out.....and even if I did, my cable modem wouldn't move any faster simply because my phone had support for a faster internet speed....

And as for the LTE-A deal....thanks Samsung for building in support for a technology that won't be out for another 5 years....really swell of you....

It's hilarious that people can't see what Samsung's marketing scheme is here....they bombard you with fancy names and terms, a huge number of "new features", all in the effort of distracting you from looking at them one-by-one and seeing that individually, they really don't add up to much.

Not to mention you have the same ugly poly-carbonate design and the same AWFUL Pentile AMOLED display.....

If that's innovation, I don't want any. Thanks Samsung for making me decision for me....HTC One it is!

You do realize that the iPhone 5 also uses BT 4.0.....and that there are plenty of health bands out there that pair with the iPhone 5...[EDIT: quoted post originally said BT 4.0]

You crack me up with your blind zeal for Samsung (and really anything NOT Apple)....does the irony even register with you or does it fly straight over your head?

samsung is using nfc there bud

keep hating! this is fun watching you get all worked up.Go buy an htc one with its locked booltoader and no dev support

and the screen is using a completely new was of pixels layout from the gs3 and Samsung listened to people complaining about the over saturation and added an adaptive color saturation engine that will adjust the screen on the fly.

another innovation there!

first company to use arms next gen A15 arch, hmm not that innovating right? lol

Exactly a lot of folks don't even use those

Psh I know right, making it easier for the 1 billion facebook users and 500 million twitter users to post their stuff....what an idiotic idea.

I much prefer the "putting myself in a stamp in the corner of a picture I took" feature that about 12 people will use before realizing its ridiculous.....

I edited my post to note that you have changed your original sentence from including BT 4.0 to NFC "bud".

And your point is.....? I don't root my phone, I simply like to pick it up and use it. Last I checked Samsung is just now adding 4.2.2, about 2 months before 5.0 is released....unless you have a Nexus, you should expect to be behind anyway.

And everything I get, I get from the Play Store......

Your two supposedly crippling points (at least I'm sure you thought they were very clever) have absolutely no effect on me....as I've said elsewhere, I have until September to decide on a new phone.....maybe Google releases their Phone X by then - I much prefer stock vanilla android anyway.

Where did I complain about Samsung using accessories? You must be mistaking me for someone else.

You still need to buy a third party accessory with NFC support though, so whether the OS supports it or an app is a fairly irrelevant distinction!

All those software features Samsung announced i could care less though, from a total hardware perspective, the S4 is a beast...with that being said, no i dont feel like my i5 is outdated at all, all the S4 is is a faster, better camera phone, it doesnt have any breakthrough features that I want...plus the S4 does not look no where near as good as the slim, sexy gun metal iPhone 5.

Thats just technology moving ahead....ill be extremely glad when my i5 is on iOS 7 with killer features while all the S4's will be stuck on Jelly Bean when Key Lime Pie is out

----------

The Samsung S4 doesn't make me feel my iPhone 5 is outdated--but the HTC one does. The S4 is full of cheap gimmicky featues most people won't use all wrapped in a chintzy plastic body. If youve got no taste this is the phone for you. The One is stunningly beautiful with *mostly* well thought out practical and elegant features.

Only thing the One got going for itself is its build quality and premium design. I genuinely dont see any thing else that makes that phone so great. The camera is worse then the i5, its as thick as the 4S/4, which i will never go back too after using the i5 for so long and the reviews on the One are saying that it has pretty poor battery life. I knew a measily 2300 mAh battery wont be that good with all that hardware

I wasn't talking about sales figures, I was referencing the 2 technical magazines in the UK, both of which, upon release of an iPhone put it straight to the top of their top ten list, and there it stayed until it was dethroned by the next iPhone. That was the case up to, but not including the iPhone 5 which went in at 3 or below, since then it was overtaken by the Sony which dethroned the S3 at the top. IMHO the S4 is a better phone than the S3 and will go to the top listing in those two magazines. My statement still stands, the iPhone 5S will not have enough to worry the SGS3. I have a paypal account if you want a small side bet that the iPhone 5 will not get top spot in either Stuff or T3 UK magazines JR.

Edit; I have reread my OP and do not mention sales figures but do make it clear what I am referencing, the whole post clearly is about the two magazines and the phones position in their top ten.

Gotcha - I didn't connect the anecdote about the mags and the claim about the 5S worrying the GS4. My mistake.

I do however take the point about sales and, even though they are tech magazines their conclusions are still only opinions the same as ours. :)

I must also say that I don't think that the S3, or Nexus 4 is any better than the iPhone 5, IMHO, they aren't, I just enjoy (for the time being at least) the others slightly more. :)

Actually, I've read at least article (on Gizmodo) where the camera on the One is compared to the IP5 and the One bests it. You can't always judge a camera on the megapixel count.

I'm interested in real world battery use as well--but so far I've heard it actually holds up well. It probably not worse than my IP5 which needs a charge in the afternoon -- after a full charge in the morning.
