Actually, I've read at least article (on Gizmodo) where the camera on the One is compared to the IP5 and the One bests it. You can't always judge a camera on the megapixel count.

I'm interested in real world battery use as well--but so far I've heard it actually holds up well. It probably not worse than my IP5 which needs a charge in the afternoon -- after a full charge in the morning.

Lol - I'm conditioning myself on the Nexus 4 battery, so I'm thinking ANYTHING will seem awesome in comparison (even if the HTC One's battery sucks, its bound to be better than the Nexus 4)...

The only thing that irks me about the HTC One is the slow update cycle....I'm used to quick, timely updates with my iP5 and Nexus 4....

Otherwise, I saw nothing in the GS4 announcement that "wowed" me....the HTC One may be my next Android phone.

Thanks for the links--but I'm curious as to what conditions and how these photos were taken. The results here seem inconsistent with everything I've read from other credible mobile tech sites and blogs.

Battery life may be a different story. So far, I haven't heard how it holds up under heavy LTE usage. I'm not interested in charging my phone 3 times a day.

Psh I know right, making it easier for the 1 billion facebook users and 500 million twitter users to post their stuff....what an idiotic idea..

I agree. It's idiotic to have Facebook "integration" without basic functionality. If Facebook/Apple would add way to check in better with friends and picture then I'd turn it back on. It's just half assed at this stage.

I really get tired of seeing the same arguments over and over on these forums. To me, nothing about the Samsung Galaxy S4 is innovative. In my opinion, innovation is introducing something that no one has ever seen before. From what I can see, all of these features introduced on the S4 already existed in some other form or could be accomplished in other ways, Samsung simply brought them all to one device to make them easier for the average user. I'm not just applying this anecdote to Samsung, this goes for Apple as well.

Yes, in my mind many of the things Samsung introduced are extremely gimmicky. I thought the whole purpose of a touch screen was to touch the bloody screen. I'm not worried about using my hand motions in the air to move something until I get something like Tony Stark has with J.A.R.V.I.S.

If I wanted to be in the photo with the people I'm taking a picture of, I'd just get someone else to take the picture. That feature looks very tacky to me by the way. It screams "I must be in every single photo I take of my friends and family". I don't need a reminder that I'm the one taking the photo and there fore will not be included in the picture.

Dual record? Same vanity concept. My subject that I am shooting is not interesting enough. Here, let me slap my pretty face reacting to it in the video to make you see how happy/stunned/excited/bored I am.

Drama Shot is cool and all, but I can take photo's plenty fast by tapping the screen on the rare occasions I wanted to do something like this. 100 photo's in 4 seconds? Do I really want my camera role filling up that fast? (Making assumptions here, I don't know how they plan on organizing all of those photos or if you will only get one single finished product. If it's just one single finished product, that seems pointless to me. Sometimes, the reason I use burst is to pick out one individual shot that I like the most.)

Cinema Photo? Even the demonstration I saw in the one of the video's made it look poor quality. I'll just leave that ability to people who actually know how to make real quality cinemagraphs.

I'm denying that the S4 is has some great software, it's just not what I want or need. I don't know why that is so hard for most of you praising the S4 to understand. Threads like this make it seem like your life goal is to prove once and for all that "insert phone" is better than the iPhone and so we all must immediately drop our iPhones and go buy this other smartphone because it is just so much cooler and more powerful than ours and our iPhones just magically stopped being useful to us because of all these amazing features.

I.......DO.......NOT.......CARE what phone you use, as long as you are happy with it and it does everything you need it to. For me, that is the iPhone and will likely not change unless Apple actually goes backwards in technology.

A gimmick to you might be something useful to someone else. So in those people's eyes its an innovation (which btw isn't something that no one has seen before it can just be a new method).

Like not touching the screen. I could find that very useful for checking things on my phone when my hands are dirty from working on my car, bike, camping, fishing, etc.

A lot of YouTube videos have people editing themselves into the corner of the screen while showing something. Those people might find that useful.

The same apply to the rest of the features.

If you cover all the basics then the only option left is to start covering more of a niche market with features. Then the people that only needed the basics call the niche features gimmicks.

I just looked over at my iPhone 5 after reading this and thought, "No, I love my iPhone 5 because I prefer iOS and iPhone over android." so no, I don't feel it's outdated.

To be honest, nothing about the Galaxy S4 "wowed" me at all. I've never once complained about those features not being on my iPhone.

Yup. People that still prefer iOS will not feel dated. I think S3 owners will probably feel dated. Do I need floating gesture control? Not. Already looks clumsy in the Gizmodo demo.

Have you seen the video of hand gesture in action? More people will be frustrated and turn off this feature than find it helpful. Samsung is good at adding gimmick features that don't work.

Videos and anecdotes of other people's experiences should only be a guide; you shouldn't base your own opinion on them.

I saw lots of videos showing Smart Stay failing miserably, but I had an almost 100% success rate with it.

It will be interesting to see which features catch on and which one's get left unused by the vast majority of people. Some people like Swiss Army Knives and some prefer the individual tools. At least they allow you to turn them off if you don't want to use them. I am stuck with the awl on my Swiss Army knife :)

Precisely good sir. Gimmicky to me, but useful to others, just like EVERY feature ever put in to any smart phone ever. Someone will always find a use for a feature and love it to death. Others will think it's crap.

All of these features are unnecessary to my work flow/ daily life/ habits/ photography/ videography/ communication needs. There are features on the iPhone that fit the same category. And there are those that others feel are gimmicky or crap, but I happen to enjoy using.

For ME (and I appreciate your opinion usage) something's appear gimmicky to me until I try them. There are tons of features on my iPhone that I thought were useless then I tried them and a lot of them worked and my I benefit from having them. Some not so much. Some I thought would benefit me but haven't. Like location based reminders for ME, I get the reminder when I arrive somewhere then if I'm there to long I forget, if I set it to remind me when I leave well I'm already gone (most of the time I remember but not always). Or Facebook integration, like I mentioned before its half assed for my usage (no pics or adding people from notification window). Etc

I think a lot of features should at least be tried before condemning them to gimmicks. You can be surprised of how you can work something into your life sometimes.

The only reason to get an iPhone is for aesthetics and/or iOS, if you like the latest hardware then go somewhere else as Apple don't and won't offer that.

The motion thing i'd imagine would be quite useful if gloves are being worn.

Is that was they were demoing in a video posted early about using it with gloves on? I thought that part was just being capacitive as well or something. But yeah, I can see this sometimes. I don't really wear gloves in the winter at all, but when I'm on my motorcycle and get off needing to check my phone real quick, it's a pain to take the gloves off and on just to do that.

I'm the same way. I wear gloves when I target shooting. A lot of the time I'll ignore my phone or not take pics/videos/etc because I don't feel like taking my gloves off.

Agreed. One thing I always do when I hear about new features is think about how I could implement them into my everyday life, and the announced features for the S4 just wouldn't be any use to me.

For instance, the Air gesture. If my hands are dirty, I always make it a point to whip my hands off anyways. The phone could be in my pocket and by reaching and grabbing the phone, I've already got it dirty. My phone stays in a case most of the time anyways along with a screen protector.

Although, theres no doubt those features could attract users whom actually could use them on a daily basis. I just prefer physically using my iPhone so I know I'm in control. And to be honest, there are features on the iPhone I have either never used or use don't use very often. Like Passbook for example, I only use it when I go to Starbucks (a couple times a week) or when I go to the movies (a few times a month) but other than that it isn't very useful to me.

Except the galaxy is made out of plastic and my phone is glass and metal.

Oh I don't know does galaxy run iCloud yet?

Isn't there S Cloud?

---

Responding to the OP, no, I didn't feel my iPhone 5 was outdated when I saw the Galaxy S4. I'm on the iPhone release path not the Galaxy release path so I don't feel it really affects me. Plus, I personally would likely never use any of those new gimmicky camera features they added or S Health, S Translator, nor have I ever felt I needed them (maybe the health tracking app for running but I can easily download that from the App Store, and I have).

The screen looks nice but that's about it. The camera is probably on par with the iPhone 5, maybe slightly better (the S3 wasn't as good as the iPhone 5), the new chipsets (the Snapdragon 600 and Exynos Octa-core) might provide a little but better performance but I read on Gizmodo that lag was still clear despite the specs. I also saw a hands on video, for example, where the widget drawer froze for about a second or two before you could scroll through it, which was an issue on the S3 and one I noticed a lot on the Note 2 when I had it.

I honestly don't think Android will ever have that same smooth feel as iOS, yes, I know, there's Project Butter, but even on the Note, which has a quad-core CPU and 2GB of RAM, I noticed dropped frames often when I would just be moving around the OS and not doing anything hardware intensive.

Just my 2 cents.

The killer 5'' 1080p HD display and LTE that makes it a world phone does.

Other software/gimmicks...kinda. They look cool but its basically like Siri, FaceTime, etc. you wont be using them after a week.

Build quality...eh HTC One is better.

Killer 1080p display?

Give me a break, it's a freaking ugly PenTile sub-pixel arrangement. It seems that they can't get rid of that issue even if they fixed it with the Super AMOLED Plus in the GS2, it got back to life with the Galaxy Nexus and the GS3.

Did you get a chance to use it? nope

Who should I believe...experts from across the industry who attended the event and got a chance to use it or you?
