I wonder how the Pixel 2's version of the always on display will work.

On the S8 its nice but I found it annoying quick due to basically having two lock screens.

I'm betting it works similarly to how it worked back when the Moto X had it in 2013 and Rick Osterloh was with Motorola.

I'm considering it (right now in 2017). Android Auto has Waze. iOS doesn't have Waze. I'm simply not using the iPhone very much. I have my iPad which I am happy with but for my phone it can be Android if it provides tools like Waze for navigation while driving on my radio screen since text messaging, email, web browsing and playing music work just fine when compared to the iPhone.

That said if Apple allows Waze on Car Play before I buy a new phone next year then I'll consider a iPhone.

I agree...wish my Note 8 would let me take action on the AOD notifications.

I am loving the note 8 but the Google phones are catching my attention. I think I'll give the pixel 3 a try next year if Android seems to continue working for me.

On some youtube video they showed it was similar to Samsungs implementation with the time and notification icons. Personally I've always wondered what use there was in just showing the notification icon, let me see the entire notification please then I can act on it.

Your a seasoned Android vet , any lock screens I can get from the play store that have widgets? Also does S8 have raise to wake? I cant find it.
Try Gravity or SmartWake they should do something similar to raise to wake.

I always thought it was so nice having the time always on. But as Im using it now on the S8 its turning out to be an annoyance.

Unless the Pixel 2 floors me when I try it out, I think this is the right move, too. The third generation Pixel sounds like it would be the right time to finally switch over to Google.

But the Pixel 2 arrives Oct 19 so we'll see! I'll be comparing it to my S8.

Now that I’ve been using my iPhone as my daily driver for a couple of months after getting fed up with OnePlus the company, I’m about to switch back to the Android side with an S8+. We’ll see how long it’ll last.
Using the S8+ currently to try out with my 7 Plus. The screen on the S8+ :D fantastic, Hardware is awesome, but I dont know if I could switch to the software.

Well this is my second attempt with Samsung software. The first attempt ultimately failed with me never getting used to the Samsung button arrangement where back is on the right. If I'm not mistaken, this is now configurable and I can restore the normal Android way in the S8 series.

You can. It's quite simple to do actually. I thought about doing it myself but after 2 and a half years of using the S6, it would feel unnatural to have the back button be on the left side.

Personally, Touch ID on the front has been the optimal position for biometric security. I can open my phone without lifting it or interacting with any other parts of it.

You can unlock with facial id without touching it or interacting with it too... but that wasn't my point. Having multiple ways provides more flexibility. If my hands are wet, facial Id is way better. If want to be discreet in a meeting or theater and check something while its down under something, touch id is better.

I agree that the front position is a good position, but with a large phone its really hard to hit it right while holding it with one hand. I'm finding the back button is actually easier to hit while holding it with one hand, but the Note 8 has it a little high. But still, with my iPhone 6s+, holding one hand and trying to get my thumb on the sensor without dropping it is tough.

You can completely disable the loackscreen on Android so it takes you directly to desktop.

Is it the skin or are you finding the apps lower quality?

But it doesn't work when your finger is greasy or wet which happens to me every day while eating.

App quality has been fine, it’s more the fact thst I need to dig and replace stock features. Widgets on lock screen? New lock screen needed. Quick reply? Another extra item. It’s nice but I don’t have time to adjust these things.

IOS didn't come naturally for every single feature so why do you expect that from Android? Just take it step by step and learn how to do a new feature every so often. You don't have to do it all at once.

The G6 screen with AOD has great black levels and really even backlighting with no light bleed. Verging extremely close to AMOLED black. So it is dependent entirely on the quality of the panel and the backlight.
You can turn off the AOD- I going back because if gesture need t

That one thing that is indefensible. These aren't cheap budget Straight Talk wireless phones. At that price point I expect to receive almost everything that I need to take advantage of all the advertised features. When you look at more budget oriented offerings with fast charging capable chargers included standard, it makes Apple seem greedy in comparison.

I find it hilarious that the iPhone X will come with an even bigger battery than the 8 Plus but come with a standard 5W adapter at $1200. The 8 Plus took 3 hours for full charge. The X will likely take 4 hours.

Sub $300 Motorola phones come with a bundled fast charger and these are bottom of the pile smartphones.

It's already known what type of charger is coming with the X?
