I won't switch per say but I can't pass up the S8+. I'm a sucker for phablets. The note was only .2 inches bigger than the iPhone plus but 6.3 inches is just too much screen to pass up. I'll keep my 7 plus as well.
Apple has announced pricing for an announced device? It's too bad Apple is going to charge over 1K base for getting a similar display and form factor as the S8. Most iPhone users will have to put up with that dated design till Apple drops prices if they ever do. The S8 is priced competitively according to the new iPhone imo

So how is that dull then if they are moving with the industry? Its going to be the same thing the smartphone industry is hyping up this year. Just like LG and Samsung, Apple's going to eliminate the bezels and go for curved edge displays.
For those who have been interested in Samsung's hardware, but were reluctant for a few good reasons, there hasn't been a better time to, at least, pay attention to what Samsung is doing.
They are really the only Android OEM that is paying attention to criticisms, learning from them, and then slowly addressing them to the best of their abilities. We witnessed this happen with the S6 first -- a direct response to all the criticisms of Samsung needing to reign in their hardware, have better design and materials, and to start cleaning up the software. Then the S7 comes along with even more refinements to the software, and for the hardware, putting back microSD expansion and waterproofing, and even making the device actually thicker for battery tech. And if you factor in the Note 8 battery issue, Samsung now has the industry leading battery QC-ing process.
So now comes the S8. I won't go into detail about it since there's been plenty of coverage and feedback in other threads. I would only say that even if you have no interest in Android, just as tech lover, go see and feel this device.
I rather point to a few of the less obvious or loud things that Samsung is doing right this year:
-For the first time, they've removed their logo on the front.
-They're selling unlocked versions just a couple of weeks after the official launch.
-And if I'm not mistaken, there's only one SKU in the United States
-Which means Samsung's new commitment to keep up with monthly security patches can be achieved more easily. And if you know anything about the Android landscape, these are the important updates.
-But in regards to Android version updates, they're at least going to attempt to provide 7.1.1 before or at launch: http://www.talkandroid.com/312577-samsung-galaxy-s8-software-android-7-nougat-7-1-coming/. This begs the question: can a single SKU also help with Android version updates?
Of course, time will tell whether they come through with these promises, and given their history with updates in general, we all have reason to be skeptical. I said myself in the other thread, I'll believe it when I see it.
But I know that updates continue to be a big point of contention, so if we are looking at history, then we must also acknowledge that Samsung has proven they are willing to learn and improve over time.
So let's see.
So how is that dull then if they are moving with the industry?
Because the prices of unannounced devices have been announced already?I am saying that to get that new design you have to pay a premium when the competition isn't charging as much for similar designs. The only novel thing Apple can do with the removal of bezels is integrate TouchID into the display itself but even that isn't worth the premium. If I wanted to upgrade this year I would have to get the 7S which likely has the usual spec bumps and a True tone display. I don't like truetone color adjustment so that might as well not exist for me.
well this is MacRumors......Because the prices of unannounced devices have been announced already?
Meaning that the post meant to say something along the lines of "I am saying that based on some rumors to get that new design you might have to pay a premium..." rather than "I am saying that to get that new design you have to pay a premium..."?well this is MacRumors......
I'm not happy with the rumours of price increases either. I was disappointed when the iPhone 7 jumped £200 but there are options if you're not bothered about having the latest device. The likes of Samsung are pushing the boundaries of hardware and on that basis offer great value for money where contracts are concerned. However they can't offer iOS and that is more important for me than anything else.I am saying that to get that new design you have to pay a premium when the competition isn't charging as much for similar designs. I would move to Android full time but the issue is the ecosystem just isnt complete. There isnt a single decent Android tablet on the market currenty. The Tab S3 is great for now but Samsung will eventually abandon it considering my Tab S2 still hasnt recieved Nougat. Android Wear watches from the Apple Watch era were all discontinued and even now there isnt a single watch on the market which is competitive with the Series 2 AW. If Google could actually build a proper tablet and watch which work as well as the iPhone iPad and AW I would switch in a heartbeat.I'm not happy with the rumours of price increases either. Having witnessed 2 friends make the transition over to android with the S7, I can say the hardware impressed but the software still had much to be desired in my opinion. It's pretty much killed off my desire to try Android again for at least the next 4 years. I bought an Apple Watch and the setup is complete for now.
This is the thing I like staying within one ecosystem and not have a bunch of different OS.I would move to Android full time but the issue is the ecosystem just isnt complete. Looking at the S8 Dex and Microsoft's continuum where Microsoft and Samsung are converging to next gen computing I just cant justify spending over 1k on the Edition which basically has the same features Android has had for years and nothing about it so far sounds unique to me. If its base price is over 1K than with optimum storage I need it would cost more than the S8 + the Dex accessory. Thats crazy. It looks like I will just have to break the ecosystem model I live with and use the iPad, Android and Windows together. Sigh
That's the problem. I've tried building an android ecosystem in the past. I had 2 android tablets, a chrome book, a smartphone and the chromecast but it wasn't anywhere near as cohesive as my Apple ecosystem. There were no benefits to to owning more than one device even if they were made by the same manufacturer. They didn't work together it was like having separate units.I would move to Android full time but the issue is the ecosystem just isnt complete. It's Apple or Samsung right now. The tab S3 looks a great device but lack of updates is a concern and matters.
I have a problem where if I got the S8 plus I would need to get the S3 tab and maybe gear Watch too. My mind says I couldn't just be happy with all apple devices and one android.
Is that OCD? Yeah maybe..can't help it lol

Also the updates on the tablets (non nexus) are just shocking. I mean you only get one and it takes about a year for it to come through and then after that you are abandoned. The phone situation is a bit better as you do do get updates for about 2 years but they are slow to come through. I mean my iPad Air 2 is two years old and it will be supported better next year when it's three years old than an android tablet that comes out this year.
All of my Apple products just work together and I don't have to think about anything.
