Unless the WWDC sessions reveal some hidden iOS 11 gems, I think I'm definitely going back to Android now. The iPhone 7 wasn't a problem with the aftermarket Bluetooth unit I had in my previous car, but unfortunately that car is no more as a delivery truck driver wasn't paying attention and switched lanes right into my left back door, sending us spinning in front of the truck at 80 km/h and ultimately ending up in the railings between the lanes. Luckily no one was hurt (my whole family was in the car, so apparently Renault does something right regarding safety), but I needed a new car and the one I got supports Bluetooth only for calls, but doesn't allow media playback. I'm not in the mood for swapping the player straight away and as the car has an Aux port, I'll be using that for in-car media playback for now. For that I need a headphone jack as my current workplace is easier to reach with public transport, so whenever I drive it's usually a longer distance, and in those situations I prefer being able to charge my phone AND listen to music/podcasts at the same time.

In addition, when I had the OnePlus 3T I really got into the habit of paying with my phone. With the iPhone and Apple Pay still being a no-show for the foreseeable future and beyond in Finland, I want to go for something that works for mobile payments now.

So bring on the OnePlus 5. Should the OnePlus 5 disappoint for whatever reason, there's luckily lots of alternatives to choose from. Of course there's still the update situation that's still much better on iOS, but the functional gap is getting too wide in Android's favor where I live.

Good to hear everyone is fine and sorry to hear about your situation. The US has it easier tech wise because iOS features are offered to us first compared to other nations. It sucks that there is more red tape to get Apple Pay to work in some EU areas. Anyways, Android Pay took longer to get 5o Canada than Apple Pay.

I've only ever had iPhones. Was real tempted by the amazing display on the S8. Decided to wait for the iPhone 8 / Note to make my decision. iOS11 has really done nothing to make me want to stay with iPhone, if anything it's made it worse. At the very least I really wanted a dark mode, still holding out a little hope they'll announce that with the new iPhone.

Yeah well we don't have Android Pay here either, but that doesn't matter as Android grants NFC access to developers and the local banks are offering rather nice mobile payment solutions. For example the "pay your friend" iMessage/Apple Pay feature demoed today was something I've been using for quite a while now, with the exception that it works on multiple platforms and cards from all Finnish banks.

I'm definitely thinking about the Pixel 2, if Google doesn't screw it up with huge bezels. If Google can produce something approximating the bezels of other contemporary flagships such as the S8, Note 8, G6 and iPhone 8 it may win me out. Having Android O on there the very first day means a lot to me so I don't think I'd futz around with any other phone with the possible exception of the Essential. Pending reviews I'm really gravitating towards the Essential, at least to hold me over until the Pixel 2.

But you know Apple, they will overhype things people may or may not necessarily use.

Go Moto G5 Plus. Has decent specs along with affordability. I bought my iPad mini 4 back in December and I already regret doing so since it takes away financial flexibility of cash/card and ties it into a depreciating product. My iPad is cared for really well, but that doesn't minimize depreciation enough because it's impossible to do so with technology always advancing.

Agreed, as far as Android phones go for 2017, it's really the Pixel 2 as #1. It will have current flagship specs. And at least a LG G6 type minimal bezel style, if not full on S8 edge to edge screen. And best of all, first phone running Android Or.

I'm honestly so disgusted at Apple right now that I'm pricing out used Pixel XL's. I stopped by BB on the way home and didn't realize that the XL is actually slightly narrower and shorter than the 7+, although the screen sizes looked identical. This way I can get Android O on it right away since the beta was released. Looking at a Huawei watch to pair with it, the original one looks nicer and much cheaper. Anyone have a recommendation for a fitness watch that transfers information to google health? I was looking at the Fenix, have to do some research.

I'm not disgusted with Apple, but this was a letdown. The change to Control Center looks great. But that's about it. Android is lapping iOS at this point. That's disappointing.

Idk how you can trust Google though? The Pixel and Pixel XL have major hardware defects. LG and Huawei have boot looping issues with the 2015 Nexus line as well. Gotta go elsewhere for an Android device.

I think apple is more interested in making sure their lowest denominator of users are not affected - keep iOS dumb down so all the millions of aunties/uncles/grandparents/toddlers don't have issues with phone.

Maybe apple realised that their small minority of geeky users have moved on to android already so they are not interested in this group at the expense of majority who needed an idiot proof phone..

No I'm genuinely disgusted. I see Android O has some pretty awesome features. Split screen, instant tethering, etc. But Apple can't even seem to punch its way out of a wet paper bag and enable a freakin dark theme. Yeah I'm losing my privacy with Google, but it's just a matter of time anyhow.

This, exactly. Of course it's a smart business move for Apple, they do know their clientele, so I can't blame them one bit.

The iPhone is designed and meant for teenagers and grandparents mostly, and clueless adults that are not tech geeks.

But an iPhone with a stable Jailbreak turns it around to be a much more useful and beneficial smartphone device. Too bad the JB scene is dead.

So in the meantime, there's only one other smartphone, the Pixel line. Or second best choice the Galaxy S8.

I think you hit the nail on the head there. The iPhone is not a tech nerds gadget, it's a phone meant for the mass public, Joe and Jane Doe, not into tech. The iPhone is the Honda Civic of phones, it's the Big Mac hamburger of phones ( over a billion served LOL ), yep that's Apple.

The iPhone we want and know Apple could make, but won't, is never happening, it's not just ever coming. I mean an iPhone which has the top ten JB tweaks baked into stock iOS. Apple could easily do that, and make it 100 times better too, but they just refuse to go there.

Sounds like you meant to say "common denominator" there, which makes sense in most business scenarios to appeal to the typical most common user as that would represent the majority of the userbase.

iOS 11 draws a lot of aesthetics from android. A lot of stuff has a more card based/material-design-ish look to them -- there's less translucency and more solid shapes. Dock icons don't have names anymore, the App store is more presentable like the Play store, the signal strength bar aren't dots anymore, and other examples.

Cool.

Also, customizable control center, finally. But boy does it get ugly, messy looking.

Still no sign of any form of swipe/gesture-typing makes me sad. I can gesture multiple sentences before someone can thumb tap one. And when typing with one hand? Forgetaboutit.

I said long time ago, when I had a jailbroken iPhone, that the jail break community has figured out iOS better than Apple can.

They also ruined the app store by making it like the music app which everyone hates. Awful. Its that same retarded Windows Phone 8 design with giant fonts on the top which made no sense to me

Those clueless adults, teenagers and grandparents you speak of are 95% of smartphone users. Your also generalizing quite a bit. I'm a techy that prefers iOS at this point, am I clueless?

How do you know no one asked for a customizable cc like this? You don't and you can't.
We did. We didn't ask for a redesign neither for CC or the app store with those ugly huge fonts. Make the current one customisable

I still don't know how you as a fact know who asked Apple for what and who "we" are? But you are under no obligation to update to iOS 11. I will be installing the dev beta in a few weeks after the major kinks are ironed out.
