A new report that is making the rounds is saying that the top-tier "iPhone 8" will not feature a curved OLED display after all due to yield shortages. So even when Apple finally wants to jump on board curved screens, they might not be able to due to production issues.
Now its even more overpriced at 1K

I might be in the minority on this one but.....

Yay!!! :D

Blackberry is designing better hardware these days but their pricing is really wrong. They've lost the market where people wanted to spend that much money for a Blackberry device. At best only enthusiasts will buy their devices and to get in the consumer market they really need to target the cheaper market. People willing to spend more money mostly will either go with iPhones or Samsung devices.

So you won't be getting one then?

Depends on the storage. If it's 32GB(which is most likely) then no. If it's 64 then I will think about it. If it's 128 than yes. There's no way I am getting the LCD iPhone

I've never tried one but if Apple wanted to do it you have to think it works. At least it'd be something new even if it is of marginal benefit.

Of course it works, it works on the S6E, the S6E+, the S7E & Note 7 as well as the Mate 9 Porsche Edition ...

But it working and individual personal preferences are different things.

My level of comfort, usability and in the end enjoyment of using last years Galaxy flagships was actually increased dramatically when I sold my S7E and bought the S7 instead. Sure aesthetically the E had the looks, but from every other perspective my day to day usage was only enhanced on the device as soon as I dumped the edge and went flat with small side bezels (and smaller device generally).

It's why with the S8 being 5.8 and 6.2" and both being contorted edged devices, I am not anyway near as excited by the prospect of its release, (I want to see it but no incentive current to buy) however had there been a similar smaller S8 flat device on the horizon, my ears would be more pricked.

There is always some compromise no matter what device you buy, it's where your personal preferences lay that dictate what device you will prefer enjoying in the end.

Samsung as seemingly eschewing the things I personally prefer in a device this year, and if Apple followed suit, I would have no interest either ...

I'm not convinced that there won't be a regular S8 in the 5.1-5.3 ballpark. I want a phablet but I understand that the majority of people prefer something smaller. Only having a 5.8 inch S8 would surely alienate a lot of their user base. However having said that the Gear S3 didn't make any sense either.

Sadly we would have had some concrete leak by now and everything is pointing to only the larger edged devices this year.

Samsung seemingly have decided that if you want a flat screened 5"-5.2" device you will have to settle for their A5 & A7 2017 devices ....

I'm sure next year we will get a speech at the S9 launch about Samsung listening to customers and returning to the 5"-5.2" screen size.

Samsung have so many good ideas but they can never execute them. The note 7 was the best they have ever done. It was virtually perfect and then they go and spoil things the next year for no sane reason.

I stick to what I said last year, that Samsung should own the edge design/technology and go all out with it. They can offer flat versions in their mid range categories.

As long as they keep improving the hardware and software (like even better palm rejection) of edge screens, I'm game.

Stange reading this as i came to the same conclusion. I had the S7E and swapped to the standard S7. Was happy for 8 months then out of boredom got the iPhone 7... BIG mistake as i always tire of them quickly. Two weeks as opposed to the usual 6 months. As previously posted i looked for a second device on android. I got a Samsung Galaxy A3(6) 2016... I'll be dammed if its not a perfect device.

Glass and metal design and i loaded apps and web pages against the iP7 and they were on par. Same HD screen. Only the camera in very low light lacks a bit. Made me question flagships... My dad now has bought the iPhone 7 off me which gave my mum an upgrade in the form of his S7E. My wife is curious about the S8 but she is practical and won't ditch her S7E for no good reason... women eh?

My thoughts are the same as above. If i want to 'upgrade' it will have to be the A series. I feel bar looks the edge display is a gimmick that has sold a lot of phones. However as seen in Samsung's MWC17 they like to please and will think nothing of catering to the flat screen lovers.

Side note, kudos to Samsung for including a lot in the box (not looking at you Apple) although i still think android tablets fail. I love my Nexus 7 Netflix at work viewer but wouldn't pay premium for non tablet apps and what really is a blown up phone.

Edit, i sold my S7 pretty quick after getting the iP7... So i'm in the naughty corner with the A3. It really doesn't suck so i'll bank the money and be less impulsive next time.

The number of Android options are getting really interesting. Across various price points, various specs, various software offerings. It's great that the latest Nokia phones are mid-rangers that offer the stock Android experience.

I've heard a lot of people saying there are issues with their palm's interfering with touch sensitivity so I don't find that hard to believe. Maybe Apple have some mind-blowing functionality in mind so I won't make a judgement until they unveil it but as they have given up on it so easily maybe it was a gimmick after all. Maybe the Note 8 will be a viable alternative.

Apparently the note 7 had sorted out the palm rejection issues so I'd imagine that would filter through to the S8.

It is something I am considering this year.

It comes back to the headphone jack problem. I have a $1000 pair of headphones that aren't wireless and there is no way I am going to carry around a ****** adapter with me, and removing the headphone jack provides little or no advantage to the overall size of the device. I certainly think most people would prefer it there.

I am probably going to get the Nokia 6.

Luckily most OEMs aren't rushing to follow Apple with removing the headphone jack. Not yet anyway.

I will consider switching away from the iPhone when I upgrade likely towards the end of this year. Price will likely be the biggest factor. If Apple decides to push the price point even closer to $1,000 then I will seriously consider switching.

I'd really like to see Apple add wireless charging and switch from lighting to USB C. I think there is a good chance of wireless charging but little to no chance of USB C.

The biggest new feature/improvement I'd like to see in iOS 11 is with Siri. Google Now is a lot better based on my experience using both.

Hopefully, things like battery life and the camera will be improved but I'm not expecting anything revolutionary there.

I really don't want glass on the back of the iPhone. I hate that Samsung started to use glass. Other OEMs are too. This will also be a big consideration. I prefer aluminum or magnesium over glass.

Wall Street journal says Apple will ditch Lightning connector for USB C in the iPhone 8.
