USB C and an curved OLED. This phone is sounding more and more like a Galaxy Note 7 rebrand. It's like Apple just said *** it and and took whatever features they could by looking at Android flagships

Wall Street journal says Apple will ditch Lightning connector for USB C in the iPhone 8.

Yeah, go read the front page story on it---the Apple fanatics are losing their **** over the prospect of this change. :p

I'd personally love to see it but I also highly doubt Apple will do it. The benefit of this change lies solely with the consumer--Apple has nothing financially to gain doing this, thus why I'd be willing to wager a sizable sum of money against it happening. Bottom line is the driving force at Apple and this doesn't improve that.

I will admit though that Apple following through on this switch would be a step in the right direction towards improving my faith in the companies direction---just a step but, at least a good start.

I agree it's hard to believe Apple will do this, but WSJ is a pretty reliable leaker.

EDIT: @tbayrgs Well, now they're saying WSJ might have misinterpreted it, and that the USB-C switch is for something else and not the iPhone itself.

Not sure why though

they started it with the macbook so makes sense that they do move. Also means fast charge which is needed with the new iphone.

Who knows we may see it on the new ipads too.

WSJ also says one model of the iPhone 8 will have edge displays, presumably the most high end one.

That means we may indeed see three iPhone offerings this year. iPhone 7S, 7S Plus, and some sorta iPhone X with edge displays, gesture controls (no home button), etc. I can't imagine they would call it an iPhone 8 while the 7S and 7S Plus exist, would they? It'll probably have some special name.

Not sure how I feel about yet another even higher priced, even higher tier version of an iPhone, just to finally get features that has been relatively standard in the industry. And if true, there will be even more sacrifices in the 4.7" iPhone.

Personally, I'm so happy the iPhone is no longer my first choice/daily driver to have to face these decisions.

This makes sense if apple is pushing for wireless charging which would make connecting a cable less of a hassle.

iPhones fail much more often than Android devices, according to study

according to device diagnostics firm Blancco: in a recent report, it claimed users of Apple's mobile devices experience a failure rate of 62 percent, which is a staggering difference when compared with Android's 47 percent.

I think these are the same folks that publish this report every year.

"t's important to note, however, that in the scope of the report a failure means a device not functioning as intended, no matter the reason"

That in itself makes me question this study and its accuracy. So I can just make stuff up or maybe it was user error.

Take this with a grain of salt.

Fast charging coming to the iPhone. Been long overdue. Apple's cramming all of the awesome Android features as much as they can I see

I'd say as an android fan boy that iPhones last longer. Why?

Like windows android is always busy. My Mac flatlines when not used by me. iPhones do to, check out the standby.

Say you have android and iOS loaded on to the same device. Obviously the lightened load iOS device will last longer.

Like flooring it everywhere in your car vs sedate driving. Which will die first? Hence the 10 year old iPhones still surviving along with very old Mac's.

Case and point presented.

iPhone X might have a delayed launch this year, says report.

Might this mean all three iPhones (7S, 7S Plus, and the iPhone x) get delayed, or would Apple release the 7S models first then the iPhone X at a later time?

Or is this rumor just false?

I think it's unfortunate that more signs are pointing to three models.

This seems like a new source that also suggests there will be three iPhone models this year.

Apple again said to be releasing iPhone 8 w/ 5.8-inch OLED display & two smaller LCD models this year

https://9to5mac.com/2017/03/05/iphone-8-display-rumors/

I wouldn't be a happy Apple iPhone fan right now. Seems more and more evident that the iPhone we finally all want will be another tier up. A brand new tier, at the highest price imaginable.

And it might not even launch until later in the year, if that other rumor is true.

I won't be happy if the usable area if the screen is only 5.1 inches.

That would be on the smaller end, I suppose, but I'm also excited for the potential of the gesture panel, if that rumor proves to be true. Because maybe we'll finally see some consistent navigation through the OS.

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
I am now considering switching to Android more then ever, fed up with Apples poor quality displays, my Nexus 5 STILL has a better screen then the iPhone! It's crazy, I wonder if they'll even bother to boost the resolution on the new OLED devices.

I refuse to pay double the price of my iPad Pro for a bigger screen phone with an up to date screen, which is what all the rumours say, so I may well give the G6 a go, after I've allowed any bugs to be sorted on it, at least when Android gets an update, unlike iOS, it doesn't break the sync to my car... But it will mean losing Touch ID and a default browser that supports ad blocking add on's...

Hmm yeah am definitely thinks it about it more then ever.

Honestly I'm tempted to keep my 7 plus and rock a S8 plus. Obviously my opinion could change come September but the 5.1 inch usable screen is putting me off big time. I want bigger screens and if it's between a 5.1 and 6.2 screen it's a no brainer

Yeah, you have to think would they do it and block of a big chunk of screen for buttons? But this is the company that charged 12 grand plus for a gold watch with a 20 dollar mechanism mass produced in a Chinese sweat shop!
And I still don't buy that it'll be the same size as the iPhone 7!

I've been using a Pixel now for 4 months. I still miss Safari with content blockers as well as the password manager add-on in Safari and other apps.

I can't find a good browser that allows me to run in private mode all the time with content blockers. YuBrowser is close and also has gestures to swipe left to go back and swipe right to go forward, but it was causing my phone to freeze and then restart.

Also with chrome when posting here on MR, if I went to another tab to look something up, then came back to the tab, it wouldn't allow me to type anything here unless I closed the browser and reopened it.

I'm now using Firefox with uBlock Origin installed. None of the above issues exist, but Firefox is extremely slow and the scrolling is so choppy. I wish Android had better web browsers but in my opinion Safari with a content blocker installed is the best mobile browsing experience you can have, the scrolling is so smooth and it loads fast. If this is a lot of your use, I can't say Android would be any better for you.

I've heard good things about the Samsung default browser so I may consider trying out an S8 to see how that works for me. If not, I will have to think about moving back to an iPhone.

Thanks, I've used Samsungs browser before and it's not bad, I have a Nexus 5 and a Sony tablet, browsing is better on iOS but I am trying different ones currently, the new Dolphin is good with built in ad blocking, I also like Opera. So you can get a decent experience on Android too I think. No idea if LG has its own browser?

I used Android since its introduction in October 2008 (T-Mobile G1) until September 2014, when I switched to the iPhone 6. I picked up a Pixel late last year and, after using it for a week, returned it and went back to my iPhone. Although the Pixel was a very well built phone, I just couldn't gel with Android, having been away from it for two years. I plan on upgrading this fall and will probably stay with the iPhone, although I'm open to the possibility of Android. I also really enjoy my Apple Watch, which is swaying my decision in favor of the iPhone.

Despite my disbelief and disappointment at the rumors of a third and higher tier, more expensive "iPhone X," I have no doubt that if it's real, it'll sell through the roof.

Apple stock is rising just based on the rumors and hype. Come this Fall, Apple is going to do what it does best: make money.
