Back when I was based in KL, Malaysia, at least 80% of the phones I see are Androids. Considering that it's still a somewhat third-world country, I'm not surprised. After all, Androids are cheaper.

In Melbourne, almost everyone uses iPhones (mostly 5/5s, but the 6 is getting popular. The 6+, not so much). The only ones using Samsungs are largely Asians.

iPhone. I swear everyone and their mother has an iPhone now a days! Its funny, I was standing in line the other day at Wal-Mart, and these four high school girls were in front of me...and EVERY one of them had an iPhone 6...with these glittery azz cases on it. I text a friend and ask him which phone does he think these high school girls have, and he immediately guessed iPhone. My little cousin (she's 15), told me you aren't cool in her school if you don't have an iPhone, Twitter or Instagram! She said, "Oh, we rarely use Facebook anymore...because our mom's are on there." Lol.

Depends where I am.

If I am traveling by tube or similar trains, mostly Android devices from Samsung and Sony can be seen.

If I am at work places, TV station, film production companies and so on, Macs and iPhones can be seen much more.

Mostly iPhones. Most of my friends and family use them and my workplace is dominated by them. I travel to London quite a bit and notice more iPhones too. Mostly 5's and 6's but rarely the 6 Plus. The next most popular phones I see are Samsung's but again I've noticed it's the more mid sized devices with the Notes being quite rare. Larger devices don't appear to have been adopted by the mainstream yet but I am not overly surprised by that.

For smartphones, mostly equal where I am from. Most being from Apple or Samsung. For tablets, it is more iPad. But where I see more majority these days are phablets. Most people carry 5.5+ inch phablets. The iPhone 6 might outsell 6+ abt 3 to 1 but where I live, it is almost even. Asians do love their phablets much more than Americans. My cousin who didn't believe in big phones three years ago also is into phablets these days. Market can be fickle. Even I am considering a phablet next out.

This is actually a really tough one. Where I live and also at my job, I notice that a lot of people have iPhones but a bigger amount of people also have some variant of a Samsung Galaxy. I rarely see any other phone, iPhone and Samsung are dominating the market in my town.

Do you see more iPhones or Androids?

mostly android (year 2013: 32%), then windows(23%) and iphones(19%) (living in north europe)... and mostly those who have iphones are girls or guys wearing a business suit... and it is true, for girls the iphone seems to be "the phone" while guys prefer android.

It's interesting to see how different trends are followed. I'm guessing you are from Scandinavia as Northern Europe consists of only a few countries. I am surprised to see your figures for the iPhone as they appear lower than I expected.

EDIT: just realised those figures are from 2013 as you stated. A lot changed in the latter part of 2014 so it'll be interesting to see more representative figures for the current market in Northern Europe since the iPhone 6 was released.

yes... and not a surprise. ios or osx isnt very popular here. 4months ago (end of Q3 i quess )all new sold devices on year 2014 (android 51%, wp 28% and ios 17%). so, yes, it is interesting to see if that changed after ip6 and ip6+ when new stats comes out...

Think I mistakenly picked iPhone, wasn't exactly focussed when I hit vote.

I see a lot of Androids and iPhones, but mainly Androids due to their wide coverage of high, mid and low end, especially with SA being a developing economy. My workplace is dominated by high end Androids and a few iPhones, amongst my friends the women mostly have iPhones and guys mostly have Androids.

Indeed. Android will have the lions share in most countries because it covers a broad spectrum of devices with very low to high price ranges. The marketshare for the UK is a majority for Android, but the iPhone is the more popular device among young to middle age professionals. The iPhone 6 broke all records across Europe in terms of sales and demand for a single device, but this will always be dwarfed by Android because of availability and price, not meaning flagships as a direct comparison.

I'm always dubious about marketshare figures because they look good for Google but this rarely splits down to show what manufacturers are selling and in what quantity. They all have their market reach in a massive market. If Apple are holding 17% in your country and around 35% marketshare worldwide, for them it's fantastic because they are the provider of the software and hardware. In the case of Apple it would suggest they aren't doing too badly at all.

I understand there are more androids but I was in a restraunt of a about 20 people, and everyone I saw had an iPhone, with a lot of 5Ss and 6s! Answer with your country, or better city/town and what you see most!

I think I see more iphones, in my office though, we mostly have android devices, two of us have Note's (3 and 4) and both of us used to have iphones before. But, walking around the mall this weekend I did tend to notice more iphone 6's than other...just my observations.
