I think at my work, it is Android that dominates. I only see like 2 people among the 13 in my team who have iPhones. But at places at malls, Samsung is more common followed by Apple. In tablets, Apple dominates as iPads are prize giveaways for Christmas parties at work. If you included tablets and iPod touches, then iOS closes the gap for Apple.
Personally, I don't like a duopoly. I like an even-playing field when it comes to smartphones esp in the Android world. In Western markets, there are fewer brands. Under 7-8. In South East Asia or in China, the phone brands can go higher than 20+ not including the fakes. I generally root for underdogs. Even LG and Sony I consider underdogs. I like brand choices to be spread out. When I see someone else own the same phone, I take notice. I probably only seen abt 5 people who owned the HTC One (M7) and maybe 7 with the Xiaomi Mi 3 owners. I don't trip thinking I don't want to own a phone so common because I root for the underdogs. Those companies tend to be hungrier for attention and innovation.
Maybe in the last couple years, I do see alot of non-Samsung Android users. Lenovo, Oppo, Huawei, Xiaomi, etc. I see plenty picking the Chinese OEM's for price and they have better skins than TouchWiz. Sony is also quite common here too but also quite expensive. Seeing that Philippines is like one of the texting/Facebook/#hashtag/selfie/grufie/jumpshot/call center of the world, I understand why the brand choices from Alcatel to ZTE is so spread out. Back home in Cali, I always saw more iPhones owners than Samsungs and smaller phones over phablets. It can be quite different and varied in Manila.
