I use cash for most day-to-day purchases. I don't want all of my purchases to end up in an NSA database, and I prefer not to pay large bills at the end of the month. I do use credit cards for large purchases, since they offer consumer protections that cash does not, and for mail/online purchases. I do not use debit cards or mobile devices for purchases.

Pretty much most stores have a camera at the checkout, and tracking you by different means. There were bunch of teens who threw Molotov cocktails at cars parked in the drive ways. Cops went through purchases at nearest Walmart, found the items used for making those cocktails, and easily identified the teens who used cash with cameras in the store and parking lot.

Recording activities for security reasons is a lot different than every transaction you make being put in database, collated, digested, merged, sold to advertisers and insurers...then ultimately leaked because of a network breach by a 14 year old.

Still have to carry an ID and card if i’m drinking, but otherwise typically only my iPhone. Never carry or use cash unless I’m on a road trip, for a variety of reasons

Drives me crazy when people pay with cash when there is a line (and in LA there’s always a line)

Do you use cash for everything? Seems like a lot of time exchanged for a small gain in privacy, personally my time is more important, and I can’t imagine what anyone would do with the information besides advertise the same products to me that I’m already buying

They use the cameras for more than security. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe they know what you look at, for how long, and what you pick up to purchase (at big box stores at least), and if you carry your phone it’s tracked inside the store using bluetooth for more precision, unless you turn it off, and all of that ends up in their database anyway

I've never seen a place where you HAVE to use it. There may be some, but it certainly isn't the norm. They're there for your convenience. Order appetizers, drinks, refills, etc without waiting for the server. And pay without waiting for the check. If you don't want to use it, push it away and ignore it.

If out of sight, out if mind isn't out of mind enough, I very much doubt a server would be unwilling to take it away. They'd probably think it a little melodramatic, because it is, but they'll say "Sure." and do it.

Considering what servers face from some customers on a daily basis, removing the Kiosk from your table isn't going to be a big deal.
Nah. I don't need that crap. Like I said, I'd just pick a different restaurant. Very very tired of having screens shoved in my face. Part of what makes it worth going to a restaurant is human interaction, and having yet another little dumbass screen trying to upsell me on an appetizer or some **** is just a giant turnoff.

Carry some cash but have not had the requirement to use it but mainly cards. ApplePay, very rarely but not worth the trouble.

Phones are just one more way to pay, and they don't work everywhere. So many stores that have Apple Pay also have Apple Pay terminals that don't work 100% of the time.

Places in the middle of nowhere on road trips? They take cash. That really good pizza place near me? Cash only. Making sure a waiter/bartender gets the tip I want them to get? Cash.

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I could never leave the house without my wallet.

It's been ingrained since a young age that you need ID and a health insurance card in case something terrible happens and you can't communicate.

Then in college I had a string of evening classes where the only food and drink came from a vending machine because the cafeteria closed at 5pm or something. In highschool I already was collecting dollar bills but in college it was a necessity to have any food or drink.

There's still times where the internet goes down and you want a coffee or need to spot someone some cash for something.

I'm also even more paranoid from the one time I tried to buy a Wetzel's Pretzel and the American Express network was down and I need to use a different card.

So I carry a small front pocket wallet with almost all of my credit cards just in case one doesn't work, my last physical Disneyland Annual Pass from 2021 for nostalgic reasons, Drivers License, stamps (for postcards when traveling), sandwich punch cards, and enough cash to buy a meal or feed a vending machine.

Apple Wallet is too cumbersome if you have multiple cards and when paying choose the one that has the best cash back. For example, one has double cash back for fuel and another doubles it for food.

Still using cash and card. I pretty much stopped using Apple Pay after my cards got RFID/contactless. Less chance of losing my phone that way.
So your saying using a card is safer than using Apple Pay??? You’ll lose your wallet before losing your phone as your phone is much heavier.

I use Apple Pay and have backup prepaid cards 💳 to use when Apple Pay is not accepted.

Physical Cards, phone, and cash. In Japan, we have many types. It depends on the shops here. Trains I use the Pasmo/Jr Wallet App iPhone. I carry A smart wallet to carry my cards with Airtag on.

Phone stays in the pocket.

Cards are cheaper to replace than phones. I'll just call my bank and they'll reissue the cards and block/reverse payments. And for people who prefers small phones like me - phones are practically irreplaceable as they're no longer available new.

I'm a bit traditional, so I'd prefer to simply carry a bag holding pieces of eight. Unfortunately, few retailers are willing to accept them now.

I use a mix of cards and cash, depending on circumstances. I am using cash more than was the case a few years ago, because I want to do something, however small, to help keep cash viable. I don't want to see us become a totally cashless society.

Some restaurants have these at each table for payments, they're not all that common however. More common at chains like Chili's. They usually show ads/silly mobile games when not being used to pay.
Applebees and Red Lobster 🦞 have these things to pay for your bill. But don’t get tricked by these games that show on these tablets if y’all bring your kids to eat there; they will charge an extra fee for that.

I use a MagSafe bifold wallet and store my ID 🪪, library card, bank notes, and other cards in there and keep a handful of coins in a small pouch if I use a mini bag, or if I use a messenger bag crossbody, I use my regular bifold/trifold wallet. I keep insurance cards, Apple account, debit, and Apple Pay Cash 💵 in Apple Wallet on my iPhone, including my Ralph’s card I use for backup. The MagSafe wallet also doubles up as a stand I use for Fitness+ or to watch YouTube videos, and StandBy on the go.

Never cash. Mostly card, but some grocery stores have apps for self scan and checkout so I use those when available. Never seen a store that had Apple Pay.
Never seen a store that had apple pay? where do you live? in the US most places that take cards take apple pay too, even if they dont specifically display an apple pay logo.

Apple Pay is far from everywhere. You certainly can’t use it at most restaurants or bars.
Luckily, the restaurants or bars problem is a US-only problem. You can use apple pay at restaurants and bars everywhere else since they bring a card reader to your table and those card readers accept contactless payments.

I actually prefer these card readers at the table when out at a restaurant, because I can most likely use Apple Pay and I do not have to hand my card over to the server, and I can order more food and drinks without waiting for my server to come back to the table. I just turn the screen away from my family when we’re eating to decrease distractions while enjoying our meal out together.
The kiosk isn’t the best solution, though. Only americans could have thought of that. I prefer to have the card reader broght by the staff when I’m ready to pay, which is how it’s done everywhere in the world but the USA.

Here in the UK cards are still a necessity. There is a daily limit on the amount of contactless payments you can make before needing a PIN as a fraud prevention method. If you're only nipping to the shops its fine but on a night out or a weekend away where you might make lots of small payments you will hit that ceiling.
that limit usually only applies if you’re tapping with your card, but not if you use a mobile wallet (apple pay, google pay, etc) instead.

Just went to brunch with my wife yesterday and the restaurant was cash only. They have an ATM machine for customers if happen to be without cash but you'll still need your debit card.

Apple Pay isn't accepted at our local HomeDepot. Basically, I only resort to my phone or watch in the off-chance I forget my wallet. It's actually faster to tap with my card than unlocking my phone to use Apple Pay. Also, if you're at a restaurant that brings you the bill I'm not going to hand them my phone to run the payment. Apple Pay and Samsung Pay are great backup options but they're not the primary form of payment for me.
you don’t have to unlock your iphone to use apple pay. Just double click the side button.
