Tesla ditched car keys years ago
But you’re buying a problem if you buy a Tesla: poor customer service, no financing, no help to deliver if they don’t have a deslership/service center where you live, no appointments available for 1+ months if you ever need service. And they don’t use apple’s digital keys stored in wallet, they only use their own app.

I have the Black Matte Titanium, the Gunmetal Aluminum and the Alpine Blue (Aluminum). I don't see a point in their bifold wallet unfortunately. I could just go back to Walmart and get another bifold if I wanted that.

All three of mine have both the cash strap on the back and the money clip on the front. The clip on the front is a hack, I don't actually store cash there (I use the cash strap in back). I did that so I could attach my wallet(s) to the inside of my front pocket.

I do prefer these wallets and I am partial to the metal ones. Both my wife and son have the carbon fiber versions though.

And to make this relevant to the topic at hand…I just prefer taking out my wallet and using my card instead of my phone. The Ridge makes that convenient.
Thanks for your reply. I have one of the carbon fiber ones that they don't make anymore and it came with the money clip. It has mostly held up great but over time I've been thinking I'd like something that looks a little different and maybe has the cash strap instead. Actually, I'd prefer if I could get both but one of the colors I like is an "either or situation" and making my decision more difficult than it needs to be.

It's great to get some feedback from a fellow Ridge user!

I haven't paid with anything but a credit card in a decade, and I've paid zero in fees and interest.

Additionally, you can use your debit card with your phone. I have mine in my Apple Wallet.
I stayed at a hotel this summer that surcharged for credit cards but not for debit cards. Since their 3% surcharge is more than I’d get back in rewards, I used the debit card for literally the first and only time.

Shhhh…you can buy extra parts. ;)

I have both the cash strap and the money clip because I bought the money clip separate later on. Ridge sells them and you can find them on eBay too.

In mainland China, printed Alipay and Wechat Pay QR codes are everywhere and you can just scan and pay with your iPhone (or any smartphone). This goes for taxis, and even for street side vendors or beggars. This only requires your phone to have power, and requires no electricity on the other party's side.

So in daily life I only go out with my iPhone. Needing my wallet to carry cash and/or cards are very rare occasions that I prepare for in advance.

When you folks go out to eat, shop, or whatever: Do you still carry cash and/or physical cards? Or do you rely entirely on your iPhone (and Apple Pay) for making payments?
If I’d rely on Apple Pay, I would be dead in less than 24 hours. It’s not available in my country. But we do support mobile payments through the main banking apps and I only carry small bank notes and cards with me, no more coins. Actually, the bank notes are just for backup, there’s rarely a situation where mobile payments aren’t offered

True. But not the color matching ones for the Aluminum Ceramic Powder series. I guess if I also wanted an AirTag Strap it would be black anyway. Decisions, decisions. :)

I'm using Rolling Square's AirCard, which is about the thickness of 1.5 cards. Works from inside the wallet. Rolling Square was first in to the space, but there are several manufacturers of these now. Way better than attaching a clunky AirTag to a wallet that is supposed to be 'minimalist'.

I pay my property taxes and vehicle registration with a debit card. The county charges 5% to use a credit card, or 0% if it's a debit card or ACH transfer.

Looks cool. I'll check it out! Thanks!

And it requires an internet connection, which is not required when using nfc (apple pay, google pay). If you don’t have a good signal you’re screwed with QRs.

If you can use the banking apps then contactless is available at many places in your country. That means apple pay could still be used there by anyone who already has it set up with a supported card from outside your country. Apple Pay not available in a country only means it can’t be used with cards issued by that country’s banks, but not that it couldn’t be used at all.

Cash 4ever baby ! Digital currency is designed to track your movements and monitor your spending ultimately leaving a huge paper trail .. not to mention fees and being hack prone

Pretty much most stores have a camera at the checkout, and tracking you by different means. There were bunch of teens who threw Molotov cocktails at cars parked in the drive ways. Cops went through purchases at nearest Walmart, found the items used for making those cocktails, and easily identified the teens who used cash with cameras in the store and parking lot.
These days, even if you don't use any cc or electronic payment system, they can track you by multitude of means like your cell phone, computers, tablets, cctv's, etc.

So using cash to avoid tracking is pretty much useless.

With regards to OP's q's, there are places that do not take contactless payments, so you need to carry physical cc as a backup. There are other places/situations that do not accept cc's, so you need cash as a backup.

Cash no.
Physical cards, of course.

Apple Pay has had a 50/50 reliability rate since I bought my iPhone 16 Pro + Apple Watch Series 10. It was maybe 90/10 before. I have the same bank, same cards.

Reposting this: Recording activities for security reasons is a lot different than every transaction you make being put in database, collated, digested, merged, sold to advertisers and insurers...then ultimately leaked because of a network breach by a 14 year old.

It's far from useless. 90% of places aren't connecting a CCTV video to a transaction, for identification, unless there is a crime. My wife is a criminal defense attorney, and when people pay in cash, it's incredibly difficult to track..she see's the evidence that prosecution is using. It take s lot of effort.

If the government wants to truly track you, they are going to track you. I'm trying to stop marketers, businesses, silicon valley bros and profiteers from getting my data.

Wow... this is the first I'm hearing of this. I haven't had Apple Pay fail on me in years. The only time I get any guff is if the merchant doesn't take a certain card, but that's not Apple Pay's fault, it's mine for not paying attention. I do hope you get your problem resolved!

I do hope too ! But to be honest, I don't know what I could possibly do to fix this by myself :p

I upgraded to 18.3 and thought maybe this could fix it, but I paid once since I Installed it, and it failed once.

It fails 100% of the time with the Apple Watch, and sometimes it works with the iPhone.

Is it always at the same store? There was a store where I used to live where the POS device needed to be "just right" for my watch to work. Eventually I gave up and used my phone.

Do you have cases on your watch and phone? Have you tried without them?

Since you are on the latest devices, and likely still in warranty, maybe Apple can help?

Very good questions, it's applicable for every store with my Apple Watch, and with my iPhone it seems random.
I have a case on my iPhone, but my watch is raw naked.
I might indeed just call Apple Support at this point, as you said, worst case they'll escalate it to engineering.

I'm in an urban area so while I still have my cards and cash with me, I pay pretty much by Apple Pay everywhere. On the weekends in the winter, I go skiing out at little east coast mountains and many of those resorts and towns don't use Apple Pay. I usually need cash for tipping in the older hotels too. I wish I could do Apple Pay everywhere but there's a lot of little mom and pop shops in more rural settings that just haven't moved over to it yet. That said, there has been a handful of times in my urban area that the store's Apple Pay isn't working so I'm still carrying everything.

I still carry both because there are too many businesses in my area that don't have tap-to-pay. What's aggravating is even when they do have them, they don't work, so I have to use a card anyway (this happens a lot at gas stations).

I will say that when my wife and I went to Italy last year on vacation, it was very rare that a business did not accept Apple Pay. I rarely ever had to take my wallet out of my pocket.
