I started with the iP5, enclosed in an Otterbox Defender w/ glass screen-protector (I have a 12-mini enclosed in a OD+GSP, now).
I carry it in the small of my back with the belt clip.
Work outside in some rather harsh conditions, and it's not uncommon for me to find myself backed into a masonry wall, a muddy trench, or some sort of steel machinery.
The screen protector has alleviated most of my squeamishness over getting dirt/mud rubbed-into the face of the phone.
I do remember one day when I was in a hurry-up moment, and I distractedly reached to get the phone off the back-clip, which sent it flying/tumbling about 13m across a tarmac surface . . . upon retrieval, the case had a few scratches, but the phone was intact.
As beautiful and perfect as my 12-mini was when I first peeled-back the cellophane protector upon receipt, all I now physically know of it is by-virtue of the light emitted from the gorgeous OLED screen
My AW6, on the gripping-hand, has always been naked. Its superficially-blemished veracity (in the face of all the abuse to which I daily submit) is a testament to the robustness of the ceramic-glass tech.
I can't really comment on what my phone would look like (or how well it would have weathered) had it been naked from the get-go; but, if a belt-clip product existed (sans-case), I might choose to use that.
Until then, I'm entirely convinced of the necessity of keeping it wrapping it in an OD, and will continue to forget about scratching, etc., et al., &c.
