I’ve used the leather cases on the 12 and 13 Pro I have now. I used to go caselsss when I used the Nexus 4 and 5, but since I switched to iPhone, I’ve used cases because they have been a bit slippery. Occasionally I will take it out and use it caseless for a week or two, but it always goes back.

I have a fine wave for the 15 Pro that I’ll use for a while. We’ll see if I keep it on or if I go without it.

Always case and screen protector ( For when in my pocket or bag with keys and other stuff ). Clear  case with clear pop socket

I always buy the iPhone color based on the assumption imma use it without a case.

It’s lighter, thinner, and most importantly when I got really nice custom or case meant for protecting the phone, somehow when I trip/fall/butterfingers (clumsy by nature), the phone would still get damaged. Perfect example is the bumper that would protect the phone when I drop it but not when I drop a glass of bar on the phone resting on the table, face up (true story).

I figure since I get apple care plus, I might as well use it naked. The price to replace the phone is maybe double, sometimes less, than the price of the cases I’ve purchased.

I feel like caseless people just are less clumsy than me. Heck, last week I somehow misjudged where the door access pad was at work and ended up knocking my phone out of my hand and onto the concrete below. Thankfully my Otterbox Defender took a slight scuff but phone is pristine.

I’ve also got kids that drop things regularly. Youngest dropped his phone 3 times within 5 minutes yesterday. And my oldest will destroy his case as he fidgets with it - Otterbox replaces it for a $10 shipping/handling fee. Otterbox lifetime replacement is amazing for those of us with autistic kids.

I wish I could be a caseless person because I would LOVE to show off the pretty green phone on its way to me but I need it to be functional more than pretty. :p

I can only speak for myself, but as a caseless person I am clumsy. I have just adapted and reprogrammed myself in a number of ways that are simply just a hassle (it seems to me) for most case users. That isn't to say I don't drop my phones because that still happens. It's just much rarer now and has rarely resulted in any damage.

I learned spatial awareness. I.e., where my phone is in relation to my body/hand and objects around me in space. I don't pull my phone out in crowds, I don't use it one-handed. I have places I set my phone down based on where I am and what I am doing and I discipline myself to put it there every time. If I have to have my phone out in crowds I will use my hands to 'cage' it so that my hands are protecting the device.

I have older phones for use when I think my primary phone might be damaged. For instance, I go on walks with my 6s Plus and not my 11 Pro Max. If something happens it won't happen to my 11 PM because it's not there. I have a 6 Plus as well that is unlocked that I can swap a SIM card in to.

All of this stuff just becomes second nature with practice. Benadryl and other antihistamines have unfortunately affected me twice. Being under their drowsy effect caused two drops sufficient to require repair/replacement. I was simply just too drowsy to hold my normal attention.

My son has always been careful with his stuff. He's 19 now and has used three phones since he was 15, all without cases and undamaged. The first was a 4s, the second an SE and his current phone is the SE2.

My daughter is an entirely different matter. She's trashed both the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 6s that were my wife's phones before she got them. I got her a new SE2 last year and I put it in an Ottorbox Defender. When she is paying for it I won't care, but this is my investment and I can't force her to start caring so she has to suck it up that it's in a case (she doesn't like it). She drops stuff not because she is clumsy, but because she just doesn't care enough to pay any attention at all to what she is doing.

My wife uses cases because she doesn't want the hassle of what I do.

I wish I could be a caseless person because I would LOVE to show off the pretty green phone on its way to me but I need it to be functional more than pretty. :p
Everyone has their own reasons for going caseless or not. I'd use a case or a beater iPhone if my occupation was different. But basically I sit in front of a computer all day and the most time I spend outside the house is tops 3 hours - and that's driving people around.

My kids are 19 and 15, so not so much a concern now as it might have been 10 years ago.

I like the apple clear case that doesn’t have the bottom rim, not sure how you call it. It’s super useful when using the swipe gesture at the bottom of the iPhone.

I did in the past but this time with the iPhone 15 Pro I’ve got AppleCare+ so I’ll probably go without a case. If I break it I can just get it repaired. Thinking I might put a screen protector on it though

I haven’t used a case (or screen protector) since the iPhone 3G.

I’m fairly cautious but of course accidents happen. Now that we have AppleCare+ I have even more reason to stay caseless.

I haven’t had the need to pay for a repair yet but the peace of mind is more than enough.

That doesn’t mean my phone is in perfect condition but as someone who upgrades every year; the small back glass scratch or scratch on the screen doesn’t matter when trading in.

One thing that does bug me is many people I know think that screen protectors getting “scratched” or “cracked” ultimately “saved their phone” from either of the two.

LOL!!! I hear that!

I dropped my 6 Plus once. No case, but at the time I was using a screen protector. The screen protector did an incredible job protecting ITSELF! :D

No scratches, cracks or breaks on the screen protector but the screen underneath was shattered completely. On the upside, I had something to protect my fingers until I got that phone repaired.

Have never used a case regularly, but always buy the Apple Silicone case, and once in a while put in on in "precarious" situations. Currently have the 14 Pro. But I am very careful and cognizant of my surroundings, etc. So I BABY my iPhone. Happy to report I have dropped my phones a few times, but never to the point that any cosmetic or bigger damage.

My wife also currently has a 14 Pro. No case, and is a lot LESS careful. It has fallen many times, and has only a minor scratch or two.

My three teenage boys have iPhone 14 Pro, two with Apple Clear Case, and one with Black Silicone case. Those with Clear cases have had minor drops where both the front and back of the phone have cracked. The one with the silicone case nothing. Seems like the "hard" clear cases do not absorb dropping the phone, and instead transfer part of the impact to the phone. The silicone does a better job of shock absorbtion.

My (personal) take is use the iPhone in all its design glory, and get AppleCare +, instead of a case.

I preordered a PM natural titanium. A little while ago I orderd a Nomad folio case in Horween leather. I like the folio case as the flap that folds around and covers the screen offers some soft protection on that side, as well as being able to hold a few business cards or credit cards and a larger pouch for bills. I have one on my 11 pro and it has served me well. Not the most convenient for picture taking. I carry my phone is a belt holster so it stands the chance of getting knocked against something damaging, and the folio case inside a leather holster gives a couple of layers of protection.

One of my sons go pretty much caseless, even though his job is quite tough and the phone looks accordingly after all the knocks… it looks like it has gone through a war. But it works just fine, just doesn’t look new. The interesting part is he uses a nice Apple leather case to cover it up and make it look nice on certain occasions. So, kind of opposite of protecting it. 😂

I stopped using a case a while back because I think the iPhone is a beautiful design, the cases are almost all ugly, and I'd never broken a previous phone (my first was a 4S). Of course, a few months later, I dropped my 12 and cracked the back of the phone (but not the screen). I'm about to upgrade to a 15, and I'm torn about whether to use a case or just take advantage of the insurance.

I have and always will use a case because I trade mine in every year and upgrade to the newest one, so I don't buy Apple Care and don't want the hassle of repairing if I can avoid it.

I also have 3 kids (one old enough for their own phone, who drops her phone at least daily, if not multiple drops per day) and the youngest occasionally has my phone. She dropped my 14 Pro Max about a week into having it with a Pitaka MagEZ 3 case on it on concrete and it hit right in the top side where the case didn't cover and put a very tiny rough spot into the stainless. Since then I've run slightly more durable and coverage based cases (Caudabe Sheath and Sigen Rugged Armor Magfit) and it still looks like the day she dropped it.

I enjoy using it caseless for a few minutes here and there when I clean it and the cases or change cases, but it goes back in quickly before I walk away from where I am. Probably overly paranoid, but the small joys of caseless every now and then are enough for me to be happy.

My daughter dropped my iPad Air 2 once and dented it. Then didn't tell me - like I wouldn't have seen it and suspected her.

That was the last time she was ever allowed to handle my iPad.

Both my kids were never allowed to handle our phones. Together they had use of a 3GS for awhile. When we needed them to have phones they had to deal with a 4s and a 5 and a 2GB/month data cap. They were teens by that point.

Both have a SE2 now, but my son has long proven he can handle a phone without a case. My daughter's SE2 is in an Otterbox Defender Pro. She hates it but she isn't paying on the phone.

I ordered Spigen Ultra Hybrid case and tempered glass screen protector for my 15 Pro Max, and everything is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow.

I always case up as I don’t trust my clumsy self.

All good arguments for case or no case.. but as many have expressed in this thread and countless others, why doesn't apple design a phone that is functional and can take a beating. Yes, they have the "toughest glass ever built...., etc.", but glass is still glass. So toughness is relative. Same for the ceramic-shield display. Your fingernail might not scratch it, but a key or worse will.
