I prefer caseless as we get these super slim gorgeous phones, but then wrap them in fat ugly cases from Amazon, or Otterboxes—heck even Apple cases and I’m not even just talking about Apple; Samsung, Pixel’s etc. I’ve gone case-less with a work Pixel 6A for the longest time, and now a work iP 14 and never had an issue. With iPhone though I’d only take the risk if it has AC+. Also, am I the only one who hates the frosted glass backs as I find the glossy backs give more grip? The frosted back is mad slippery.

I used to (way back in the day when phones were still usable with one hand) go caseless. And then I dropped my phone and busted the screen (this was a Nexus 5).

Now that phones are so big and also made of slippery glass and metal, I actually prefer the feel of a phone with a case, just because it is easier to grip.

I will say my iPhone 13 Pro Max with just a cheap hybrid case (no screen protector) has been amazingly durable. This things feels like a tank.

I like to keep bulk to a minimum & grip to a max, so I opt for a ‘shell’, not a case. Pretty much gives me the scratch protection for the back & most importantly the corners + rear camera & front screen (lips on both sides). But still leaves the sides open so you get the nice colour of the iPhone as a contrast. The naked phone grip means I don’t worry about dropping it & get max reach across the screen for one handed use.

What is that case name, please?
I'm using Pitaka on mine 13 mini though - pretty the same reasons as yours!

I can’t find it where I purchased it from for under $10! (AliExpress)

But here it is on Amazon (huge markup though).

There are others on AliExpress though…For eg…

TL;DR: Screen protection and leather case with lid, but always used it with great caution.

I lost this ensemble during a boating accident last weekend as it fell overboard and disappeared into the abyss. The diver that finds it will have a very well maintained 89% battery health and scratch free iPhone XS 256 GB in hand, but I expect it to be destroyed. I got this used iPhone in 2019 from a friend and used it for over 4 years. Sad story.

Btw, broke my shoulder in the event, but that's just minor collateral damage.

I am curious if anyone knows of a company making a clear back protector like they do for the front (Belkin, etc...). I am thinking about going careless with the new 15pm, but wouldn't mind having a layer of protection on it. Just something super thin and protecting from scratches.

I know the front can be protected by Belkin, but not sure about the rear.

Thanks,

I used this brand on my 12PM and 14PM and was happy with it. I‘m not getting the clear glass back protector since I’m only buying 2 cases this year.

I always use a case, but more for fashion and fun than for strictly protecting the phone(though of course the cases provide both). I like to change cases with different colors, patterns and prints depending on my mood or what I’m doing.

When I'm at work I do but at home I take it off.

It took a very long time (better late than never) to realized how much I baby my phones. I've heard it many times, it's just phone.

Not only these companies go out of their way to give us their best but we pay so much for it.

Why not take advantage of the PREMIUM build & cost. It's exactly why 4-5 years ago whenever I'm at home I take the cases off. It feels amazing!!! I wished I could afford to leave it off.

I do because I want to sell or hand me down a pristine iPhone to the next user without me spending more than a case.

Wheneve i decide to go without one it ends up falling only once after 10 years wirth no fall in the case and that drop is going to make the phone ugly from the first hit.
I dropped my se so the aluminum teared into sharp pieces.

The main reason I use a case is because the iPhones are so slick they slide out of my hands easily. I always get the Speck grip cases. If the iPhone ever has an enough texture this doesn’t happen I’ll go naked.

I’ve always used a case on mine, but this year I’m planning to get the pink 15 plus and I’m going to try going caseless so I can admire the beauty. I keep my phones for 5 years, so I never get a lot for my trade-in anyway, even if the phone has no scratches. When I’m away from home I carry my phone in a dedicated section of my purse, not next to anything sharp, and rarely have to get it out because I also wear an Apple Watch. This year I might take the money I usually spend on cases and put it toward Apple Care.

This always strikes me as odd…

The phone is cased so a 'pristine' phone is sold or handed down. So it can be cased again.

At the end, you have a pristine phone that is ready to be recycled.

It's like Schrödinger's cat…no one know what's inside the case until the case is removed when the phone gets recycled - and it's pristine at that point. The recycling machine then rips that pristine phone apart in moments.

Aside from protecting any internal damage, who benefits here?

I think 'because the iPhones are so slick' is an assumption. It's not a fact, or at least it's just relative to different people. What may be slick to you (or slippery) may not be so to me. Some people who use cases like to describe the iPhone as a bar of wet soap.

Yet plenty of people who don't use cases don't drop their phones.

I've made two significant drops of phones before requiring repair or replacement. It was not because the phone was 'slick'. It was because I was not paying attention. In both cases I'd recently taken an antihistamine for a runny nose.

In the 25 years I've been doing this neither I or the person receiving the device complains about the arrangement even when I sell above used market value. 😀

All the PowerPC Macs and all but 1 of the Intel Macs I've used has been sold this way.

The last Intel Mac's waiting for a larger than iMac 24" before it gets liquidated too.
