I have been using an Apple silicone case on my 15 Pro Max, today I dropped it from waist height onto a wooden laminate floor. The screen protector smashed but the screen was fine. When I took the case off to put a new screen protector on I was surprised to see the titanium frame protected by the case has been scuffed in the top left corner!

Clearly that was the point of impact but I’m not happy that the case material caused this damage on the inside. My previous 15 Pro slipped onto the same floor wearing no case and there wasn’t a mark on it.

Take from that what you will lol 🙈😅

I had a glass screen protector on my 6 Plus once. Dropped the phone when I got in the car. Cracked the screen but the protector had zero damage!!!! ;)

Lol so the motto of the story is use it completely naked 😃 the damage wouldn’t have occurred without the case 🤣

I'm considering getting the Ocase wallet type case when I get the iPhone 16, I think it was recommended earlier in this thread.

I like that the case comes in two parts, a normal case that surrounds the phone which itself can connect to the leather look wallet via MagSafe which has pockets for cards and cash. I like that it would allow me to remove the phone to carry alone, or put it into the wallet case when I need to carry cards and cash with me.

I have a clear Apple MagSafe case for my iPhone 14, but I only use it part time now. I used it for the first year, but it’s just nicer using the iPhone without it. It’s probably even better without a screen protector on, but scratches in the screen, like I eventually got on my 8 Plus, drive me batty.

I do put the case back on if I’m going to be doing something where I might be more likely to drop it.

I'm still researching cases for when I get the iPhone 16 but seeing as I plan on getting AppleCare+ for the first time I'm perhaps less concerned about protection than I normally am

My first iPhone was the iPhone 4. I had it in an OtterBox Defender with the built-in screen protector. All others since have had the OtterBox Commuter. I've really enjoyed the Commuter. They're not near as bulky as they used to be. I have dropped my phones many times, no damage. I don't use a screen protector.

Same here -- except that I didn't use a case for that iPhone 4 and actually had nary a scratch on it for a very long time, even through multiple drops... until I accidentally slipped my keys into the same jeans pocket as the phone, and they scratched the screen. (Doh!) Lesson learned; all of my subsequent iPhones had cases and screen protectors.

My personal preference is to go with a clear silicon case, which tend to be super cheap most anywhere and do a surprisingly good job at protecting the phone. Early versions tended to discolor over time, but I've found that more recent silicon cases are better about remaining clear.

I've sold off or traded in most of my previous iPhones at this point, but I think I might still have that iPhone 4 sitting in storage somewhere. I was comparing the size and heft of it to my current 14 Pro Max a few months back... my, my, how things have changed.

I find the iPhone too slippery to use without a case, not to mention I lose my phone about 5 times per day so a case whose bright color makes it easier to locate.

I chose “sometimes” on my 15 Pro.

Screen protector is on since day 1.
When I’m home I take it out of the case.
I’m very careful and I want to feel the naked feeling😅

At work or if I’m just leaving home it goes into a case.
Also have AC+ on it, just in case.
Pun intended😁

I'm going to be getting AC+T&L when I get the 16 Pro.

I might not even bother with a screen protector and just let AC take care of ay cracked screen, although I'm not sure if they only rectify a cracked screen if the the crack has made the screen inoperative?

Curious. What is T&L?

Sometimes I feel that pay for AC+, and then have a screen protector and also a case is maybe overkill.
The AC+ takes care of it.

But since AC+ don’t cover scratches and I really hate scratches on the screen, I put a screen protector on it.
On the frame it’s no big deal, but the screen is another story, because I would see it all the time🙂

I’m not sure either how much AC+ cover. If it’s one crack all over the screen, or it must be a completely broken screen.
Maybe someone knows?

Someone I know attempted that approach. If I understand their feedback correctly, I believe the issues you may encounter are that 1) some retail locations might still be shipping off your phone for repair, so you will have to make do without your phone during the repair period, 2) there is still a moderate service fee for every screen repair, and 3) even under AC+, there may* be a limit to the number of times you can have your screen repaired before they charge you full price for the next service.

* Mind you, these reported incidents took place several years back, and a quick glance at Apple's website shows that it clearly states that they provide unlimited repairs for accidental damage. It could be that the terms have been updated more recently, but frankly, I'm not at all sure how far I would trust that claim.

Thus, I'd suggest that you go ahead and get a case and a screen protector, even if you have their protection plan. The current crop of screen protectors -- when properly installed -- are barely even noticeable, and similarly, there are clear cases which make a minimal aesthetic impact on the handset. But hey, that's just my two cents; take it for what it's worth.

Curious. What is T&L? ...

Just consider that AppleCare+ will not cover you for any cosmetic damages, like small scratches and bumps. If you want to avoid those, a smarter thing would be investing in a minimalistic case that you can swap, if needed. You can find a decent case that could last you a while for a monthly price of AC+.
